47 Summer TV Shows That Are 'Missing' (...or Cancelled)

There's a lotta TV going on this summer, across the broadcast, cable and streaming networks. But some major summertime staples are still thus far "missing" from the schedule (which you can and should view here). Which are simply delayed by the pandemic or other causes? And which did you forgot got cancelled long ago? Here, TVLine presents the current status of more than 40 summer favorites.

This affair is over! Meaning, the series' fifth and final season aired late summer/fall of 2019.

American Ninja Warrior - Season 11

American Ninja Warrior (NBC)

Production on Season 12 of the summertime staple, which was ordered in January, was interrupted by the pandemic.  UPDATE: ANW will return Monday, Sept. 7.

90210ver! The Summer 2019 event series — which starred the original Beverly Hills, 90210 cast as heightened versions of themselves, as they attempted to get a revival off the ground — will not be back for a second round.

With production unable to get underway (due to the pandemic), Big Brother 22 may premiere "a little later than usual," CBS president Kelly Kahl said in mid-March, "but we're still optimistic" about it happening. UPDATE: BB22, an all-stars edition, premiered Aug. 5.

Season 2 was greenlit last summer, one week ahead of the anti-superhero series' July 26 debut, and in fact production wrapped in 2020. A return date announcement seems imminent.

101 - The Night Flynn Sent the Cops on the Ice

Season 2 of the Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge-led crime drama had started filming in New York but is currently on hold due to the pandemic.

Like clockwork, each of the dramedy's first three seasons ran June through August. Season 4, however, will not air this summer; its premiere date is still TBD.

Euphoria (HBO)

On July 11, 2019, midway through its freshman run, the edgy high-school drama was renewed for Season 2. Production on the new season, however, has not yet started. UPDATE: Series star Zendaya has hinted at a "bonus" episode to "bridge" the two seasons.

Gentleman Jack - First look

Gentleman Jack (HBO)

Though it was renewed by BBC One in May 2019 (just as it was making its Stateside debut), the historical drama was never scheduled to air this summer. As such, it had not yet started production at the time the pandemic hit.

Cancelled Grand Hotel Spoilers

Grand Hotel (ABC)

Checked out! The primetime sudser/mystery drama was cancelled in October, just weeks after its freshman finale.

The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)

Whereas the past two seasons largely aired during the summer, Season 4 had always been targeted for a Fall 2020 premiere. But with production interrupted by the pandemic, a 2021 release date is most likely.

TVLine hears that Season 2 had started filming right before the pandemic hit, and thus it has been delayed.

Jett Season 1 Finale - Cinemax

When Cinemax announced in January 2020 that it was getting out of the original programming game, the Carla Gugino-led action drama's fate was left in limbo. At this time, there is still nothing to report on it finding a new home.

Killjoys - Season 4

Joy killed! The Canadian space adventure series' fifth and final season, which was announced well in advance, ran last July through September.

Krypton Cancelled

Krypton (Syfy)

Not super, man! Syfy lobbed a chunk of cancellation kryptonite at the Superman pre-prequel, not 48 hours after its sophomore finale aired.

Shuttered! Typically a late-summer premiere during its two-season run, the quirky dramedy was cancelled in October 2019.

Love Island U.S. - Season 2

Love Island (CBS)

With production unable to get underway (due to the pandemic), Season 2 of the dating series may premiere "a little later than usual," CBS president Kelly Kahl said in mid-March, "but we're still optimistic" about it happening. UPDATE: A quarantined Season 2 premiered Aug. 24.

Case closed! The Suits spinoff was cancelled in October 2019, after one 10-episode season.

The Batman pre-prequel was renewed in October 2019 (one month after its "explosive" freshman finale), but with production shut down by the pandemic, Season 2 isn't expected to premiere any sooner than late this year.

Perpetual Grace LTD Season 1 Episode 101: Incorrigible

Perpetual Grace, LTD (Epix)

A "limited run" of episodes that will give closure to the one-and-mostly-done drama are currently still in development.

Power Season 6 2019

Power (Starz)

Powered down! A summertime series for most of its six-season run, the Omari Hardwick-led crime drama aired its series finale in February 2020 — though multiple spinoffs are now in the works.

Can I get an Amen! Based on the Vertigo comic book series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, the TV series' four-season run concluded in September 2019.

Queen of the South Season 5

Production on Season 5 of the crime drama was paused by the pandemic shutdown.

Production on Season 4 was postponed due to the pandemic, and as such the John Singleton co-created crime drama won't be airing this summer.

SYTYCD Season 16 Academy Week

So You Think You Can Dance (Fox)

Preliminary auditions started back in March via video submissions, but were interrupted due to COVID-19. UPDATE: On June 18, Fox announced that Season 17 would not be happening this summer at all.

Sacrament of the Ancestors

Strange Angel (CBS All Access)

Fallen angel! Based on the biography Strange Angel: The Otherworldly Life of Rocket Scientist John Whiteside Parsons, this "sex magic"-infused "historical drama" was cancelled in November 2019 after two seasons.

Historically, its odd-numbered seasons get summer release dates, so Season 4 was likely (if not officially) earmarked for this fall. Seeing as how the the cast had gathered for Season 4's first table read only days before the pandemic shut down TV productions, a 2021 release for the effects-heavy series seems probable.

Succession (HBO)

Never expected to air this summer (a la its first two seasons), Season 3 of the acclaimed family dramedy was in pre-production when the pandemic hit.

Suits - Season 7

Suits (USA Network)

Out, law! The legal drama's ninth and final season aired July through September 2019. 

Sweetbitter Season 2 2019

Sweetbitter (Starz)

Based on the novel of the same name by Stephanie Danler, this drama was cancelled in December 2019, after two seasons. 

"Younger" Ep. 604 (Airs 7/10/19)

Younger (TV Land)

Renewed in July 2019 for a seventh season, the comedic drama had not even started production on its next run of episodes at the time the pandemic hit.

Though Season 2 enjoyed a summertime run, Season 3 has been postponed until 2021, due to the pandemic.

Already reported "missing" last summer (due to a finances-related delay on the filming of Season 4), the Canadian supernatural series just might be back at some point this summer (though a date has yet to be shouted from the mountaintops).

UPDATE: Season 4 (or at least the first half of it) premiered July 26 (get details/trailer); midseason finale airs Aug. 30.

Production on the fourth — and final — season began in mid-February and thus was interrupted after just a few weeks.

Though sister series Celebrity Family Feud, Press Your Luck, Match Game and Holey Moley are back with new episodes this summer, Season 5 of Pyramid had yet to start production before the pandemic shutdown.

Card Sharks (ABC)

Though sister series Press Your Luck, Match Game, Celebrity Family Feud and Holey Moley are back with new episodes this summer, Season 2 of this retro revival was just about to start production when the pandemic hit.

Only a handful of Season 11 episodes had taped by the time production shut down, so a premiere timetable is very TBD. The good news: MasterChef Junior will be back this fall (airing Wednesdays after The Masked Singer Season 4).
