What to Watch Sunday: A Trip Downton, Treme Finale, Revenge Flashback, Liz & Dick and More

On TV this Sunday: Downton Abbey offers up a proper review in advance of Season 3, Revenge does the time warp again, Family Guy puts a little Depp in its step and Treme tosses its final beads of the season. As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.

PREVIEW | Once Upon a Time‘s Emma Faces the ‘Impossible,’ Hook Dares Cora to [Spoiler] Him

8 pm Downton Abbey Revisited (PBS) | Angela Lansbury (Murder, She Wrote) hosts this 90-minute special featuring clips from the Brit series’ first two seasons, cast interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and a sneak peek at Season 3.

PREVIEW | The Good Wife Plus Stockard Channing Equals ‘Happy Thanksgiving’…?

9 pm Liz & Dick (Lifetime) | You’ve heard the hype, now witness the trainwreck TV-movie chronicling Elizabeth Taylor’s legendary, tumultuous romance with Richard Burton. Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls) and Grant Bowler (Defiance) co-star (but you already knew that).

9 pm Revenge (ABC) | Victoria’s estranged mom (Carnivale‘s Adrienne Barbeau) visits, Emily embarks on her first Takeda mission and NolCorp’s just gone public in this flashback episode, which takes place in 2006. (Read preview and get a sneak peek!)

9 pm Dexter (Showtime) | Isaak’s got Hannah — will Dexter save her? P.S. Check out TVLine’s newest Performer of the Week.

9 pm Boardwalk Empire (HBO) | Gyp makes his move in Atlantic City (if it involves funnel cakes, it’s eerily similar to my traditional move in Atlantic City), and Nucky and Eddie are forced to seek refuge with Chalky.

9 pm Family Guy (Fox) | Lois experiences a mid-life crisis, and Peter tries to keep up with her new, wild lifestyle. Also, Johnny Depp makes a brief cameo as Edward Scissorhands.

10 pm Treme (HBO) | Season finale: Tim Feeny reveals himself and his intentions to Janette when he finds out she’s throwing an unauthorized benefit for Gigi’s, and Toni sees hope that Joey Abreu’s killer may be prosecuted. (Treme fans, you can rest (big) easy: The series will be back for a shortened final season.)

10 pm Homeland (Showtime) | Brody makes a necessary phone call before things spiral further out of control, Saul teams with Virgil and Max to dig up some information and Carrie prepares for the most important meeting of her career.

10 pm The Mentalist (CBS) | The CBI team looks into the murder of a real estate agent with gang ties. Guest stars include Monique Gabriela Curnen (Lie to Me) and Dan Gauthier (One Life to Live).

Which of the above is must-see for you? Also, hit the comments with your tune-in suggestions.

  • “Liz and Dick” will break all the ratings records for Lifetime. It’s gonna be a huge ratings hit! But Lifetime already knew that when they hired LiLo.

    • You kidding, Lohan sucks in this movie. I saw the promo she’s terrible.Lifetime is going to have low ratings for this movie. They were wrong to cast her, she’s a terrible actress and does not look a thing like Taylor

      • Totally agree……..heard really lousy feedback from critics……..they should have cast Megan Fox…..she looks like a young beautiful Liz. Not like old duck lips Lindsay!

    • Casting Lindsay Lohan was a bad mistake, she doesn’t look a thing like Taylor or have any real acting talent like Liz did. Bad casting on the movie’s part.

  • I sure hope Treme Season 3 was better than Season 2. It was a big bore, except for Toni’s storyline. Has anyone watched Seas. 3? I have to wait until it comes out on disc through Netflix.

Comment by Heathers – November 25, 2012 10:17 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I’ve been watching Treme this season. I’m probably one of the four people who follow this website that actually enjoy the show, lol. It’s been a bit slow, but I still like it. It has picked up here at the end. They’ve got some stuff going on with LaDonna that’s interesting with the guys who attacked her in Season 2. They (or maybe it’s their friends) have been harassing her. Toni is still interesting, as always, and continues to battle police corruption. She has a new reporter friend that I like who’s been writing the story of the corruption while she investigates it. The show remains more of a character study than anything else, as well as being a portrait of the city. My TV tastes are kind of weird, because I dig that sort of thing. That definitely is its main focus over plot. I think if you were bored by season 2, you might not like season 3? But you should at least give it a try and watch the first few episodes. :) The Mardi Gras episode was a ton of fun and has a super surprising hook-up between two characters.

      • Thanks Britta! I will definitely watch Seas. 3 when it comes out on disc- at least the first few episodes. It just seemed like Seas. 2 was so up and down. LaDonna’s story was good too. She is one tough little lady. I have very different tastes in what I watch too.

      • I fell in love with the series in the 3rd season now I want want to see all episodes.I hope HBO will air all of the seasons again I also hope HBO will give other latecomers the chance to catch on! I think TREME is compelling.
