Get fired up: In the wake of ABC’s renewal of Grey’s Anatomy for Season 20 comes word that the network has also picked up spinoff Station 19 for Season 7. But there are changes afoot.
As previously reported, when the current seasons of the sister series wrap, Krista Vernoff will be stepping down from her post as showrunner on both dramas. Grey’s Anatomy vet Meg Marinis was announced back in March as Vernoff’s successor on that show. And on Thursday, the network named Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige — both of whom have previously filled producer roles on Station 19 — the new “chiefs” of the spinoff.
“I feel incredibly honored to be entrusted with this dynamic and relevant show alongside Peter,” Clack said in a statement. “The diversity of the cast, writers and crew in addition to their enormous talent and dedication to their craft makes this a thrilling adventure to undertake. We are excited about the stories we get to tell using this worldwide platform and both understand the responsibility of being able to share them as we reach into millions of homes weekly. Many thanks to Krista and Shondaland for this opportunity and their faith in us.”
“I’m beyond honored to be handed the reins to Station 19 — a show I love, full of incredible, complex characters and resonant, important stories,” Paige added. “To get to partner with a talent like Zoanne as showrunners truly makes it all the more exciting — we share a similar vision for the show, and we’ve got some incredible twists and turns planned for the coming season. A huge thank you to the entire team at Shondaland, and everyone at ABC for their faith in us. And eternal gratitude to Krista Vernoff, for bringing me into the 19 family, and for modeling conscious leadership in such a powerful and deliberate way.”
Season to date, Station 19 is averaging 5.3 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating, down 15 and 22 percent from its Season 5 numbers. Out of the 10 dramas that ABC has aired this TV season, it ranks sixth in total audience but ties The Rookie for No. 2 in the demo (trailing only Grey’s Anatomy).
This week alone, ABC has also handed renewals to The Rookie (for Season 6), Will Trent (for Season 2) and The Good Doctor (for Season 7). Still awaiting word on their fates are Alaska Daily, Big Sky, The Company You Keep, The Conners, Home Economics, Not Dead Yet, The Rookie: Feds and The Wonder Years. The Season 6 finale of Station 19 airs on Thursday, May 18, at 8/7c. (It’s followed by a two-part Grey’s Anatomy sendoff at 9 pm.)
So, your thoughts on the renewal news? What are you looking forward to and/or fearing in Season 7 of Station 19? Hit the comments.
I really hope they renew “Not Dead Yet.” It’s a cute show with a good cast.
Watched Station 19 forever. Then with Jack going AWOL and too much drama between the gyno and ex-captain, and the political stuff, erased all episodes I had left. Can’t imagine it being renewed.
Now Alaska Daily, Big Sky and The Company you Keep are top notch shows. Can’t believe they’re in limbo still.
Yet it was renewed?
It stinks when shows are in limbo or cancelled, but quantity of estimated viewers takes precedent over a show’s quality, and with good reason.
Alaska Daily, Big Sky and The Company you , really should get renewed. why is it that great shows almost always get cancelled. and sh!t hows like station 19 get renewed.
those are the 3 shows i’m holding my breath for as well, along with rookie feds and not dead yet. ABC has really been knocking it out of the park with new shows that have captured my interest so please don’t disappoint me now!
I kinda feel like greys should end next season and station should end the season after
Well I really don’t know about that Matthew. It’s very unlikely to tell right now.
Is that Peter Paige from Undressed and Queer as Folk?
Yes, it is…
Im waiting for ”The Company you Keep” renewal for season 2 !!
I had to stop watching Stn 19 and Greys. The shows have become a comedy where the actors are grandstanding. Both have become so corny, unrealistic and down right preachy.
It’s too bad that writers didn’t take a more serious approach as the story lines have the potential to be great. There is no doubt these actors have the skills to showcase their characters in a more believable way.
S19 needs to become a whole lot less preachy – and do some more fire-related stuff.
.
Agreed Steve and Greys need a little more believable surgery and knock off the childish relationship behavior. My kids had it more together in their teens.
Alaska Daily and Big Sky NEED to be renewed!!
Let’s keep our fingers crossed Diane! Hope for the best!
I want renewals for Big Sky, Alaska Daily and The Wonder Years – have zero interest in any other shows still on ABC’s waitlist.
Hope the new Showrunners get back to the core group and tie up some of the storylines. Would love to see Andy and Sullivan get back together — their chemistry was worth watching! Get a permanent Captain other than Beckett. More Jack please! And can Travis please have a real relationship with an equal!
I’m really tired of the musical chairs with the Captain’s role. Just pick somebody and stick with it. And they definitely need more fire related storylines and less soap opera. Sick and tired of Maya and Carina’s back and forth crap. These two need to get it together or forget it.
Although I don’t watch the show, I already knew Station 19 was gonna get renewed anyway. On top of that it’s one of those TV shows that will unlikely end at any point.
Company You keep
Alaska Daily
Not Dead Yet
Big Sky.
Having been huge fan of Greys and Station 19 since beginning its GREAT having them both renewed. Also huge fan of Big Sky since 1st episode. Storylines have to change to stay current in all shows!! So sad when favorites leave ;(
S.W.A.T renewed for season 7
We want more station please get rid of Dickson and keep all of the other station 19
