As the title says, Emmy nominee Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson Meet Cute, lotsa times, in their Peacock movie rom-com — which now has a premiere date and an unforeseen sci-fi element.
Written by Noga Pnueli, directed by Alex Lehmann and filmed here in New York, Meet Cute tells the story of Sheila and Gary (played by The Flight Attendant‘s Cuoco and SNL vet Davidson), who when they meet, it’s love at first sight.
Thing is, that magical “first” date wasn’t fate at all. Sheila has access to a time machine, and she and Gary have been falling in love over and over again. That one perfect night is never quite enough, though, so Sheila decides to travel to Gary’s past to change him into the perfect man. (Or at least get him to shave?)
The Peacock original movie premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
“If I had a time machine right now, I’d be torn,” director Lehman said in a statement, not in response to Saul Goodman. “Do I skip ahead to our release date, or do I go back and relive the joy it was making this film? Lucky for me it’s a decision I don’t get to make. I’m excited for audiences to get swept away on this wild romantic ride exclusively on Peacock.”
With The Flight Attendant‘s next takeoff currently in limbo, Cuoco recently signed on for a comedic thriller series at Peacock. She also is developing a limited series about Doris Day, in which she would also star as the entertainment icon.
Davidson, who in May announced his exit from SNL after eight seasons, is due to play a heightened, Curb Your Enthusiasm-like version of himself in a comedy for Peacock. He also pops up on The Rookie now and again as Nathan Fillion’s TV half-brother.
How many times must they recycle this same romance time-loop plot (basically “Groundhog Day” but with extra rom-com)? I can think of at least three similar movies currently streaming. But at least it’s the woman who’s the creepy time-traveler in this one, so that’s something.
She may be the time traveler, but to me, PD is and always has been creepy.
Ha, I think that’s part of his brand.
Agreed that Pete D is too creepy to make a good rom com hero. This seems more like the Drew Barrymore + Adam Sandler thing than Groundhog Day, though.
Other than the fact it involves weird stuff with time, this sounds nothing like Groundhog Day. It’s a lot closer to Back to the Future.
“That magical ‘first’ date wasn’t fate at all. Sheila has access to a time machine, and she and Gary have been falling in love over and over again.”
–She keeps reliving their first date? Sounds a lot more like “Groundhog Day” to me.
Keep reading though – she’s not just reliving the same first date, she’s going further and further back in time to keep altering his past to “improve” his future self. That’s the Back to the Future component.
The fact that she’s ten years older than him I think and yet they look the same age because he’s so lanky , pale and tatted up is hilarious to me
And yet he does better than you or I ever will.
The age difference may be a trend. The new country show starring Trace Adkins has cast Susan Sarandon as his wife, and she’s biologically old enough to be his mother.
She can’t Groundhog Day enough to salvage Pete Davidson.
R.I.P. PD PLEASE!
‘“If I had a time machine right now, I’d be torn,” director Lehman said in a statement, not in response to Saul Goodman.’
Me: *laughed and then said ‘Matt Webb Mitovich wrote this’*
Boy, Cuoco is certainly not resting on her Big Bang money. She’s gonna get it all while the iron is hot. Good for her. Glad to see she is also taking the lead when it comes to developing projects. I would like to see what she would come up with regarding Doris Day. (That is a goldmine of a life story!)
Where in the multiverse is there anywhere close to a reality (or the dramatic license of a romcom) where a Kaley Cuoco ever falls, much less pursues, anyone like Pete Davidson?
Pete Davidson as a romantic interest for Kaley?? Oh YUK!!! Seriously, couldn’t they find a better, more believable match up for her?
Pee Wee Herman wasn’t available?
