Cancellation Buzz: Are These 9 Bubble Series Dead Or Alive?

What in serial killer hell is going on with Mindhunter's potential third season? Has the sun truly set on NBC's Sunnyside? Will we ever see Chris Hardwick's fancy Wall again? And does FX's Feud have any fight left in it? The fate of nearly a dozen broadcast, cable and streaming series continue to hang in the balance as the clock ticks closer to 2020. While a few of the in-limbo series featured below are as good as dead, several remain firmly entrenched on the proverbial bubble. And in some cases there's reason to be hopeful.

Bluff City Law

Bluff City Law (NBC)

Status: Although the Peacock has not officially cancelled the low-rated rookie drama, NBC opted against ordering additional episodes of the Jimmy Smits-Caitlin McGee procedural beyond its initial 10-episode commitment. Never a good sign.

Celebrity Big Brother

Celebrity Big Brother (CBS)

Status: The Big Brother spinoff was notably absent from CBS' midseason schedule and a CBS insider tells us there are no current plans for the show to return.

Feud

FEUD (FX)

Status: What was intended to be an ongoing anthology series has been downgraded to a one-and-done event, a casualty of Ryan Murphy's move from 20th Century Fox to Netflix. "I'm not working on any of that right now," Murphy tells Deadline. "My deal is with Netflix. That's not to say that years down the line that I couldn't' redo it or renew it if I had a great idea. I think everyone is open to that, but I'm working on so many other things."

Mindhunter

Mindhunter (Netflix)

Status: Season 3 is on indefinite hold due to exec producer David Fincher's busy schedule (full details here).

Reef Break

Reef Break (ABC)

Status: The Poppy Montgomery-led ABC drama was a ratings weakling, ranking as ABC's least-watched summer offering. But as Montgomery noted in an interview with TVLine shortly after September's finale, Reef is "an international co-production, so once it airs in France, we'll get a real sense of" the show's fate. Side note: Does anyone know when this thing airs in France?!

Sunnyside

Sunnyside (NBC)

Status: The network pulled Kal Penn's struggling comedy from its Thursday schedule last month, moving the remaining episodes online, thus making it the 2019-20 TV season's first cancellation.

The Wall

The Wall (NBC)

Status: NBC originally intended to burn off the remaining episodes of this Chris Hardwick-hosted game show last summer, but the network abruptly abandoned those plans, sans explanation. And The Wall is MIA from the network's midseason 2020 schedule, all but sealing the series' already dismal fate.

The World's Best

The World's Best (CBS)

Status: Despite a splashy post-Super Bowl berth, the James Corden-hosted talent competition quickly fizzled in the ratings. CBS has yet to issue a formal cancellation notice, but sources confirm that the Mark Burnett-EP'd franchise will not be back for a second season.

What/If

What/If (Netflix)

Status: It's been six long, quiet months since the trashtastic Renée Zellweger-fronted anthology thriller premiered its inaugural 10-episode season, so time is certainly not on the show's side. Speaking of ominous signs, What/If creator Mike Kelley is busy plotting fresh Revenge at ABC
