What to Watch Wednesday: The Middle Dabbles in Pawn, Barrowman on Arrow, Top Chef and More

On TV this Wednesday: Pawn Stars proprietor Rick Harrison finds himself stuck in The Middle with Sue (as well as fellow guest star Jane Kaczmarek), Captain Jack dresses up for Arrow, Top Chef gets chopping on its 10th season and the South Park kids mess with the presidential election. As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm The X Factor (Fox) | The Top 12 finalists perform. (Psst: Need a quick review of who’s left in the competition? Hit up Michael Slezak’s recap of last week’s results show.)

8 pm Survivor: Philippines (CBS) | Per CBS, tonight’s Tribal Council is when stuff starts getting real.

8 pm Arrow (The CW) | After his arrest for murder, Oliver wants Laurel to represent him – awkward — and a polygraph question about who else was on the island triggers a flashback to getting his first scar from Deathstroke (guest star Jeffrey Robinson). Meanwhile, the Well-Dressed Man (Torchwood‘s John Barrowman) makes an appearance. (Check out photos from the episode.)

8 pm The Middle (ABC) | Frankie has a rough first day of dental-assistant school, thanks to her tough teacher (Malcolm in the Other Middle’s Jane Kaczmarek); hoping for big bucks, Sue and Brick bring an expensive item to a local pawn shop (manned by guest star Rick Harrison of History Channel’s Pawn Stars).

9 pm Criminal Minds (CBS) | A rash of prostitutes killed in the same manner as mutilated animals makes the BAU think an UnSub’s confidence is on the rise. Matthew Lillard (Scream) guest-stars.

9 pm Modern Family (ABC) | Cheers‘ Shelley Long returns as Jay’s ex, Dede, whom he tries to usher out of the house before she learns that Gloria is expecting. Elsewhere, family lawyer Mitchell accompanies Phil and Claire to the police station when Hayley is arrested for underage drinking.

PREVIEW | American Horror Story‘s Evan Peters: Only the Aliens Can Save Kit Now!

PREVIEW | Nashville Exclusive Sneak Peek: Could This Be Rayna and Deacon’s Final Break-Up?

10 pm Top Chef (Bravo) | Season 10 premiere: 21 chefs are challenged in kitchens belonging to the series’ judges: Tom Colicchio, Emeril Lagasse, Hugh Acheson and new addition Wolfgang Puck.

10 pm CSI (CBS) | When his son Charlie’s basketball coach dies, Russell is drawn into the investigation. Family Ties‘ Michael Gross guest-stars as president of Charlie’s school.

10 pm Chicago Fire (NBC) | Casey gets all shouty with Voight, and it doesn’t end well (watch a preview); when Severide’s injured arm gives out during a rescue, he asks an old flame/pharmaceutical rep for help.

10 pm South Park (Comedy Central) | Season finale: Hmm… Did Cartman have something to do with the results of last night’s election?

  • Am I the only one who’s been praying for the TV Gods for a Chicago Fire renovation? It’s becoming a beloved show real quick. And it’s on NBC. My heart can’t stand it :/

      • I agree too! I love Chicago Fire (especially Jesse Spencer). I wish they had better ratings, they certainly deserve it. Fingers crossed that NBC doesn’t cancel it..

        • eMy favorite character is actually Dawson! I really like her with Casey (why did they name him that? I keep getting it confused with Chase!). I’m secretly wishing Voight will kill his girlfriend so they’ll be together, lol!

  • Where are all the political bums who were invading our comments sections from yesterday? Just like sports fans who over-hype their team ad nauseum, when they lose, its a ghost town.

  • It drives me NUTS when these shows run on to 10:01 or 10:02 (i.e. The Voice and others). I know they do it in hopes that one will stay on that channel for their next show but, like tonight, it screws up my DVRing of two 10:00 shows on other channels…damn irritating:(

  • Why do you say it’s TV for tonight when it’s always a day late? Make it current (as in TODAY’S TV picks) instead of yesterday’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
