A Million Little Things has one big milestone to celebrate: ABC has renewed the drama series for Season 2, TVLine has learned.
New network chief Karey Burke tells TVLine that just a Season 1 was set in motion by the many questions spurred by a character’s suicide, Season 2 will similarly open with a mystery. “There will [be a new mystery], but I can’t tell you [what it is],” she said.
ABC also handed renewals to The Good Doctor (Season 3) and Shark Tank (Season 11) on Tuesday.
A Million Little Things had been averaging 3.4 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating through its first 10 episodes, which aired Wednesdays at 10/9c. But after being moved to Thursdays, where it leads out of Grey’s Anatomy (aka ABC’s No. 1 drama), it rose to season highs and has averaged 5.3 mil and a 1.1. Those Thursday numbers make it ABC’s No. 3 drama, behind The Good Doctor.
In Live+7 DVR playback, the DJ Nash-helmed Things enjoys the largest gains of any ABC series, jumping 95 percent in audience and 138 percent in the demo.
In addition to A Million Little Things‘ regular ensemble — which includes James Roday, David Giuntoli, Grace Park, Romany Malco, Ron Livingston, Allison Miller, Christina Moses and Stephanie Szostak — Chandler Riggs (The Walking Dead) and Drea de Matteo (The Sopranos) are set to guest-star in upcoming episodes.
Are you excited to hear that A Million Little Things will return for Season 2? Tell us about it in the comments!
So great! I really enjoy the series and glad we get to spend more time with these characters. The viewers get to enjoy the rest of the season without worrying whether it will return or not.
Looks like moving it behind Grey’s Anatomy paid off for increasing live viewers/demo ratings.
Great news! While I don’t love every storyline on this show, I have become attached to most of the characters and will be glad to see them for another season.
Also- it’s so refreshing to have a television drama that’s not workplace based. It seems like everything else on tv is set in a hospital or some sort of crime drama.
I agree, for me I don’t get Regina and Rome Howard’s purpose other than to just be there. If they are trying to bring to focus on a battle w/depression story line it’s falling flat.
I think that with the restaurant supposed to be opening soon Regina and by association Rome will get more to do than just the battle w/depression, at least I hope they do. I like both the characters and would love seeing them with more to do than what they are currently. Heck, I love the show and all the characters and am thrilled it got picked up for season 2 … having a great week, first NA and now this … guess my fear of freshman shows can almost be abated.
Rome is/was one of the three in the elevator w/John in the beginning. Why is the issue only with him and his wife? Really
Yes really. I’m aware that he was in the elevator with John. I’m just questioning their role since they don’t really bring much to the story other than they were John’s friend. Like SoFla said, maybe when the restaurant opens they will be in the story more.
You singling out Rome and Regina looks like something else. That’s all I’m going to say.
Hard agree here. Maybe that’s not what Wrstlgirl means, but it really does come off that way. Which is sad, cuz I have found Rome’s storyline to be pretty spot on and I love the way R&R support each other.
Were we all watching the same show? Rine and Regina are in it a lot. they have a great storyline. Reginas turn mulch US relationship with her mother and her uncle Who abused her when she was a child and Romes relationship with his dad and his brother him having to take medication because of his suicidal tendencies and his depression. there in the show a lot which is great I think all of the characters are in the show equally.
I couldn’t agree less. I love Rome (and the actor; loved him on Weeds. Love both characters, love them as a couple (love their apt, too, but I digress. Not sure what u mean by questioning their purpose; this is a show about friendships and relationships. They’re part of the friendship circle. Rome’s one of my favorite characters!
I’d say that Dee and Maggie and Gary were the central characters this season. Eddie, his wife and Rome and Regina were supporting characters. They all had their own stories, but just not as at the forefront. Since the death of Jonathon was the mystery, it makes sense that Dee would be a central figure this season. Eddie drawn in because of the affair and Katherine as Eddie’s wife and Dee’s lawyer – but without the affair, they’d be pretty invisible, too. Gary seems to be the leading male on the show as he’s struggled the most with Jonathon’s death (probably because he had so much support from him during his battle with Cancer) and Maggie is central to Gary’s story of growth from playboy to great boyfriend. Rome and Regina’s stories aren’t as dramatic because they are more on a slower longer arc. Frankly, I thought Rome going off his meds should’ve included a bit more drama because it’s not always that easy and now that Regina’s restaurant is about to open, there will likely more developments from them. Not everyone can be lead characters all of the time – even on Friends, some of the characters were more key than others.
Yes!!! Were is the next storyline.
I’ve said before that for the first few episodes, I *rather* liked it — but with reservations. Since then, though, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, so I’m glad that it’ll be back.
Now this is the surprise of the season so far. I was certain it was dead, but the move on the schedule was a huge help.
My favorite show on ABC! Happy to hear it’s been renewed! Now just waiting on a Psych movie sequel announcement!
It’s coming. :)
So happy to read this!!! Best news of the day and the best new show of the year. Still even has a chance to be the best show of the year.
Is Christina Ochoa off it?
I wasn’t aware of how good this show is and when they changed the time they didn’t start from the beginning… and trying to watch on-demand didn’t work because you only get two episodes to choose from.
Try Hulu.
Yes Hulu has all the episodes up to date.
So good and so emotional. Definitely find a way to watch the previous ones.
You can watch all the episodes online on the ABC app.
There Goes psych the movie 2 hopes :( I love the show but didn’t see how it was going to be able to go for more then 1 Season.
All indications I’ve seen are that the Psych movie sequel is happening this year! ;)
Not necessarily. The script is done and James has hinted at it happening. It’s just finding the time.
He’d be able to easily film it during summer hiatus. Most shows wrap up filming in either March or April, and don’t start filming till late July. It would mostly be contract negotiations with ABC/USA. Though typically, actors are free to film for any other network, as long as it’s not during the time frame of the main show they are contracted under. :)
Psych The Movie 2 was announced yesterday for this year.
Yes this makes me so happy
Will the 2nd season have a fall premiere? Can’t wait! Agree it’s nice to have a drama out of the office, hospital or police station
A Million Little Things coming back for Season 2 – best news I’ve heard all day! ABC – you definitely got this right! Such a well diversed and perfectly chosen cast. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
GOOD NEWS! I love this show – reminds me of Brothers and Sisters from the past. Now lets hope it stays paired with Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 in the fall!
True! It brings back memories of Brothers and Sisters…
Yes! Brothers and Sisters plus the show 30 Something. Loved both of those shows. MlT is imo, their love child. Such an amazing show, as someone else said, nice to see it’s not set in the workplace
I am so happy to hear this! This show has become my must see (and I think it has passed by This Is Us) Was so nervous it wouldn’t get picked up.
I love the line-up of Grey’s Anatomy and A Million Little Things. I don’t watch How To Get Away With Murder though. I would love to see The Rookie go in that spot. Give it a chance!
I’m very happy that “A Million..” was renewed. It’s a good story.
I am the opposite- I don’t watch Grey’s but do watch HTGAWM so I don’t want it to move!
I stopped watching this show, but glad James Roday still has a job. ABC did a terrible job marketing it. It originally was marketed as a This Is Us copy, which, in comparison, it was really terrible. Now, it’s marketed as a thriller/mystery/Shonda-like series and is thriving. Marketing makes a world of difference.
Yes, yes, yes!!! Nothing more refreshing than real storylines these days. I love when tv shows give me all the feels, something all those crime, syfy and superhero tv shows can’t deliver. A Million Little Things has become the show I look forward to the most and I watch a lot of shows, and I mean A LOT of shows…
Me too girl lol!
I have tons of shows I watch but this is my favorite, I’ve even got my husband hooked! I love these characters, the storylines are amazing and it never fails every single episode there is some sort of twist that leaves us wanting more- we are always talking about the details and asking questions back and forth, it’s so hard to have to wait until the next week for the answers!
I am happy about the renewal. I got a couple of people to watch and they will also be thrilled it is renewed.
Good news! I’ve become a fan and look forward to learning more about the characters.
Love it .
Yes so excited to hear this show has been renewed for a second season!!!
I’m happy it has been renewed. I mostly started it because I really liked the cast, especially James Roday, but I ended up really enjoying it. I’m interested to see where it goes in the next season.
So happy that my ne favorite tv series will come back for season 2. Nowadays series don’t get time anymore to develop their voice and how an audience. Thank you ABC for believing in this show and moving it behind Grey’s. Wonderful news to have quality TV prevail.
Thrilled for a season 2! Way to go ABC for acknowledging a great series with great writing and a group of actors that are superb !
That’s wonderful news! Finally, the networks renew a show that I really enjoy. One question though; is Christina Ochoa gone for good or is she coming back?
Thanks to ABC for renewing my favorite show – A million Little Things!
