Inside Line: Scoop On Stranger Things, The Boys, All Rise, Heels, Sweet Valley, Call Me Kat, The Orville And More
Are a Stranger Things hero's days numbered? Will Heels Season 2 hit the bull's-eye? Is The Boys' Stan down for the count? Read on for answers to those questions plus teases from other shows. (You can and should email any brand-new Qs to InsideLine@tvline.com.)
How worried should we be for Stranger Things' Steve after he got bit by those Upside Down bats? –Deb
"Everybody's always worried about Steve. I love it," said Matt Duffer when we asked the Duffer Brothers about Steve's prognosis. "We always have to beat Steve up somehow, so certainly the Demobats have done that job pretty well already this season." Ross Duffer in turn said, "It feels wrong to say 'excited,' but I'm excited that people are concerned. And they should be concerned going into the final two episodes [of Season 4] — for everybody."
Is Call Me Kat getting a 20-plus episode order now that it is premiering in the fall? –Kass
Your intuition is excellent, Kass. After airing seasons of 13 and then 18 episodes, I am hearing Season 3 is currently penciled in to deliver a full 22.
Do you have any inside scoop on when Foundation and/or Invasion will be back for their second seasons? –Jay
I asked around for ya, but there aren't any updates at this time on either Apple TV+ sci-fi series.
I am constantly amazed (and a little scared) of how The Boys' Stan Edgar talks to Homelander, or any of the crazier Supes. Are we sure he's 100-percent human, or does he just have ice-water in his veins? –Cindy
What Stan is... is out of cards to play, given the events of Episode 4, in which Victoria rudely turned the tables on her father. Asked if the disgraced Vought boss has any possible play left, showrunner Eric Kripke told me, "I think Stan is on his heels, at least for this season. If there are more seasons" — and we now know Season 4 is a go — "I would never count Stan Edgar out. But he's in a certain amount of trouble for now."
Is Sweet Valley still in development at The CW? –Austin
That new adaptation of the YA book series, from Gossip Girl reboot scribe/producer Ashley Wigfield, is no longer in development at The CW, though CBS Studios may try to set it up elsewhere.
Is Making It coming back to NBC, with Nick Offerman and Amy Poehler? –PP3
As is increasingly the case with unscripted broadcast shows these days, Making It is currently in a "state of limbo" — not cancelled, but also not on the immediate schedule.
Do you have any info about Season 2 of Heels? –Steve V
What if I told you that Starz's Stephen Amell-led wrestling drama will have some Arrow tie-ins during its sophomore run...?
Will Mia Smoak be returning to The Flash again in Season 8? –Michael
Persistence pays off, Michael! I finally got your Q to showrunner Eric Wallace, who reported back, "Not this year, but I do hope to have her back in Season 9." Bonus scoop!: There is no predicting this week's B-story, but it doesn't take place in Central City and it is a doozy.
Has Peacock set a release date for Irreverent yet? I'm missing seeing Colin Donnell on my TV screen. –Stephanie
"Later this year" is the current, vague timetable.
I've been keeping my eyes peeled with The Orville, looking for Eliza Taylor. Any idea when she shows up (or maybe already did)? –Craig
I can confirm that the 100 alum was not LeMarr's prickly hook-up in Episode 1 (remember, Taylor's role required getting fitted for prosthetics, shown above), nor does she show up this week. Rather, series creator Seth MacFarlane told me to look for her "later in the season."
With Max Thieriot having a new show this fall, Fire Country, does that mean he won't be in the new SEAL Team season? –Chrissy
I am re-re-assured that Thieriot is in fact able to do both shows, and as such remains a series regular on SEAL Team.
Any indication when Part 2 of The Nevers will return? –Kristin
Still TBD. (Yes, still!)
I saw a TVLine commenter claim that OWN is only airing four All Rise episodes right now, and the rest of the season isn't until January 2023. Is that right?? –Owen
It is not! Season 3 is airing in two 10-episode blocks, with this opening salvo running through Aug. 9. Bonus scoop!: This Tuesday's episode features a twist in the election storyline, after which Lola and Sherri are "going to have to figure out how to really get back to that friendship again," showrunner Dee Harris-Lawrence previews. "They got to a place where they both had each other's back, and then within this arc, there's something that threatens that [and] that makes them look at each other differently. And Simone [Missick] and Ruthie Ann [Miles] do a wonderful job. There are going to be scenes that break your heart."
Anything for grown-ish Season 5? –Kevin
I'm hearing that one of the guys will be getting a new love interest who is seemingly perfect in every way... except for certain "unpopular" opinions she holds, that threaten to ruffle the feathers of her fella's friends.
What MCU cameos can we expect on Ms. Marvel beyond the premiere's Agent Cleary (played by Spider-Man: No Way Home's Arian Moayed)? –Meg
Rest assured that we went fishing on this topic during a recent chat with EP/director Adil El Arbi, but he toed the super-secretive Marvel line: "We will not confirm nor deny the presence of any cameos in the show."
