Lizzie McGuire Turns 20: See What The Disney Channel Cast Looks Like Today
It's a bittersweet day for Lizzie McGuire fans.
Tuesday marks 20 years since Hilary Duff introduced Disney Channel viewers to the now-iconic teen queen/occasional Italian pop star, but how can we celebrate the show's legacy when we're still mourning what could have been? (Duff confirmed in December that the show's Disney+ revival is no longer happening.)
We'll tell you how: by taking a page from Lizzie's book and powering through! When Lizzie had to review Miranda's awful performance in the school play, did she cave and give her bestie a glowing write-up? No. And when Lizzie got handcuffed to her demonic little brother, did that stop her from shamelessly flirting with Ethan all day? Absolutely not. And when the neighborhood paperboy broke up with her, did she spend several days crying her eyes out? Actually... yes, she did. That was a really sad episode. (Cue Mandy Moore's "Walk Me Home.")
Anyway, scroll down to see what the show's main cast — Hilary Duff (Lizzie), Adam Lamberg (Gordo), Lalaine (Miranda), Jake Thomas (Matt), Hallie Todd (Jo), Robert Carradine (Sam), Ashlie Brillault (Kate) and Clayton Snyder (Ethan) — looks like in the year of our Lizzie 2021:
Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire
The end of Lizzie marked the beginning of a successful film career for Duff, including starring roles in Agent Cody Banks, A Cinderella Story and Cheaper by the Dozen. She also made sporadic television appearances, most notably with a buzzy recurring role on The CW's Gossip Girl. She currently plays Kelsey Peters on TV Land's Younger, which is projected to return for its seventh (and unofficially final) season sometime in 2021. A Duff-led spinoff is also in the works.
Adam Lamberg as David 'Gordo' Gordon
The Lizzie McGuire revival would have marked Lamberg's return to the small screen; the man formerly known as Gordo only appeared in two projects since his Disney Channel days, in 2005 and 2008 respectively.
Lalaine as Miranda Sanchez
Just as Miranda departed Lizzie's orbit towards the end of the series, her portrayer has maintained a relatively low profile following the show's conclusion. She continues to act, however, with roles in movies like 2010's Easy A. She most recently appeared in 2020's Definition Please (pictured here).
Jake Thomas as Matt McGuire
Three years after Lizzie wrapped its run, Thomas returned to Disney Channel, where he recurred as Jason Stickler on Cory in the House, a spinoff of That's So Raven. He has worked steadily in the years since, landing guest spots on major network procedurals, most notably CBS' S.W.A.T. in 2019. He was slated to reprise his role as Lizzie's younger brother in the Disney+ revival (pictured here).
Hallie Todd as Jo McGuire
Having already starred and recurred on multiple TV series, Todd was well established by the time audiences were reintroduced to her via Lizzie McGuire. Though she has only appeared in a handful of projects since her days playing Lizzie's mom, Todd was all set to return for the Disney+ revival (pictured here).
Robert Carradine as Sam McGuire
Thanks to his work in movies like Revenge of the Nerds, as well as his famous last name, Carradine was already known by the time he debuted as Lizzie's dad. He has also worked steadily in the years since, popping up on everything from Law & Order: Criminal Intent to Robot Chicken. He was also going to return as Sam for the Lizzie revival (pictured here).
Ashlie Brillault as Kate Sanders
After tormenting (and eventually tolerating) Lizzie for three years, Brillault left the acting world, though she did reprise her villainous role for the cast's 2020 virtual table read of the iconic Season 1 episode "Between a Rock and a Bra Place" (pictured here).
Clayton Snyder as Ethan Craft
A full decade after Lizzie ended, Snyder returned to TV with a guest spot on CBS' NCIS, kicking off a steady stream of gigs for the former Disney Channel heartthrob. (Click here to creep on his Instagram for more updates!)
