DC's Stargirl Makes A New Friend, Meets An Old Foe, In Season 2 Photos

Stargirl acquires a new potential friend and at least one new foe, and possibly meets some "family," in this exclusive batch of photos from Season 2 of the CW series.

As revealed weeks ago in the first trailer for the superhero team-up series' sophomore run, Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl (played by Brec Bassinger), Yolanda/Wild Cat (Yvette Monreal), Beth/Dr. Mid-Nite (Anjelika Washington) and Rick/Hourman (Cameron Gellman) find themselves looking for crime, any crime, to fight after besting the ISA's Icicle, Dragon King et al in the Season 1 finale.

Moonlighting as teen superheroes, however, does not come without a price — as Courtney, for one, discovers upon being enrolled for "Summer School" (as Season 2 is subtitled).

Review the five new photos and their captions below for additional scoop on what is ahead. And as always, you can email a question to InsideLine@tvline.com, to possibly be answered via my Inside Line column.

The new castings for DC's Stargirl Season 2 — which premieres Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 8/7c, exclusively this time around on The CW — include Nick Tarabay (Arrow) as Eclipso (get a first look); Jonathan Cake (The Affair) as Injustice Society alum The Shade; Ysa Penarejo (Netflix's Project Mc2, Brat TV's Red Ruby) as Jenny, daughter of Green Lantern Alan Scott; and The Flash's own John Wesley Shipp, who will guest-star as Golden Age speedster Jay Garrick.

Already renewed for a third season, DC's Stargirl debuted in May 2020 to 1.22 million total viewers, marking The CW's most watched out-of-season launch in six years. Among the network's 13 off-season offerings last year, it ranked first in in demo and second in total audience.

A STARMAN IS REBORN...?

This character played by Joel McHale, who showed up in a season finale bonus scene — Sylvester Pemberton/Starman again, we presume? — has some very specific questions for this waitress in the Season 2 premiere. (Oh, and said waitress isn't just anybody, by the way.)

BLASTS FROM THE PAST

Courtney's stepdad Pat (Luke Wilson), seen here talking to Green Lantern's daughter Jenny, finds himself having to catch Courtney & Co. up on several pieces of OG JSA lore — few if any of them falling under the category of "good news." Has Pat been sugarcoating a particular event from the superhero group's illustrious past?

THROWING SHADE

Jonathan Cake (The Affair, Doll & Em) is downright (and very entertainingly) debonair as ISA alum Richard Swift aka The Shade, though his civility may prove to have its limits when one of the kids acts too brashly. Swift's first stop when we see him is Barbara's office at the American Dream Corporation — but to what end?

TEA PARTY

The JSA is spoiling for a fight when they track down The Shade — though the mood soon enough cools down. Will a spot of tea convince them to stand down and, as Swift nicely requests, "stay out of my way," so that he can pursue a hidden agenda?

GREEN WITH... ENVY?

As the Season 2 trailer may have hinted, Green Lantern Alan Scott's daughter Jenny (played by Ysa Penarejo, far right) does not receive the warmest welcome upon arriving in Blue Valley after spending her childhood in a Milwaukee group home. Courtney in particular bristles at how "perfect" this newly discovered legacy is, until someone serves up a most salient observation.
