Hey, why settle for reruns when you can watch brand new episodes of your favorite old shows?
We’ve seen a massive wave of TV revivals over the past decade or so, with the casts of many beloved sitcoms and dramas from the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s reuniting for one more season — or, in some cases, several more seasons. But of course, not all of these reunions worked out the way we might have hoped. Some did prove they were worth bringing back by fully living up to the original… and some had us wishing they had just quit while they were ahead and not ruined their legacy.
With the news that Dexter is returning to Showtime for a new season, we here at TVLine thought we’d look back at 17 recent TV revivals and judge which ones didn’t miss a beat and which ones missed the mark entirely. Then we went ahead and ranked them, according to how satisfying they were to die-hard fans. We’ve got bawdy comedies (Will & Grace), spooky dramas (The X-Files), heartfelt dramedies (Gilmore Girls) and everything in between.
Read on to see how we ranked the past decade’s TV revivals — and, of course, join us in the comments below to share your own favorites and tell us which ones we’ve ranked too high or too low.
