COMIC-CON 2016 Exclusive Videos, Casting News, Scoop and More

Hours after the ABC series revealed at its San Diego Comic-Con panel that it’s introducing the characters of Aladdin and Jafar (to be played by Deniz Akdeniz and Covert Affairs favorite Oded Fehr), TVLine has learned that Galavant star Karen David has been cast as Jasmine.

Akdeniz and Fehr make their debut in the Season 6 opener (airing Sunday, Sept. 25), while TVLine hears that David will first be seen in Episode 4.

David’s previous TV credits also include the BBC One drama Waterloo Road, episodes of Strike Back and Castle, and the CBBC children’s sitcom Pixelface.

The reveal of Jasmine, Aladdin and Jafar comes on the heels of a flurry of other Season 6 castings, including Giles Matthey (24: Live Another Day) as Morpheus, Craig Horner (Hindsight) as the Count of Monte Cristo and the returns of Cinderella/Ashley (played by Jessy Schram) and Dr. Archie Hopper (Raphael Sbarge).

    WOOT WOOT!!! Perfect casting.

  2. edytas says:

    This is beyond perfect! :D

  3. Renee says:

This casting couldn’t be any more perfect! So much love for this news! :)

  4. lll says:

    Great casting choice!

  5. Shay says:

Ugh! How about actors who are persian/arabs/middle east instead? Except Akdeniz who is turkish (but he’s not for me a good Aladdin looking)
Like white actor playing egyptian 😒

  6. abz says:

With all of these guest stars, I’m still so disappointed that the show has failed to follow-up on Anastasia from the Wonderland spin-off and they basically brought back Will/The Knave for nothing. That’s an Untold (or should I say Unfinished) Story right there.
Also, I’m really hoping that since they are dropping the half-season arc format that a lot of these casting announcements are going to be a bit spread out a bit throughout the season. Aladdin, Jasmine, Jafar, Cinderella, Morpheus, Jekyll/Hyde, Count of Monte Cristo, Archie, Sinbad, Scheherezade, probably the Genie too since they’re doing Aladdin and I’m guessing these aren’t the last of them. Quite a lot of guest stars. I know some of them will probably beone-off characters, but I hope they don’t take over. I hated the King Arthur stuff last season. Too much of it. I’m excited to see Aladdin/Jasmine/Jafar though and of course the return of Evil Regina should be fun.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

Sinbad/Scheherezade were code names for Aladdin/Jasmine.

      • Dan V says:

Matt, I know the actors are different, but is this Jafar the same ‘character’ from Wonderland or are they pulling an Ursula and having two people with the same name?

  7. clintbrew says:

looks like OUAT is going to a whole new world in season 6 i hope they can do tarzan and jane as well

  8. Erica says:

I’m happy for Karen David! but I’ll miss Galavant!

  9. Anne says:

That’s perfect casting!! Well done OUAT. I might just tune back in for this

  10. Matthew B Lawler says:

Given the fact that we already met you far in once upon a time Wonderland why have They recast the role

    • Brandy says:

Because Naveen Andrews ,who played Jafar in Wonderland,is too busy now to reprise the role as the article said and you can’t have Aladdin without Jasmine or Jafar

  11. Rahajicho says:

It’s been years since OUAT did something right, but this is it.

  12. ibjbyron says:

Okay, yes very good , but PERFECT would have been Manuela Arbelaez (I know, not an actress, but look at her and tell me she is not a live version of Jasmine.) Or maybe Janina Gavankar (who already has a new job…)

  13. Lily says:

This is just as perfect, as when JoAnna Garcia was cast as Ariel, back in Season 3.

  14. Missy says:

Great casting! Karen is a fantastic actress :D

  15. Luis says:

Could that have been more obvious casting?

  16. Neda says:

Aladdin comes from “One thousand Arabian nights” a middle eastern fairy tale, NOT indian. Why would they cast an indian woman to play an Arab princess? That’s like casting a Korean woman to play Mulan (Chinese) oh wait they did that too -__- POC are not interchangeable!!!

    • DeMar DeRozan says:

its even worse because at least Korean people and Chinese people can look sometimes alike but south asians an middle easterners dont look anything alike
