Tricia Helfer on Playing Lucifer's (Too?) Young Mom: 'It Will All Make Sense'

Tricia Helfer could be forgiven if “What the hell?!” was her first reaction to being cast on Fox’s Lucifer as mother to both Tom Ellis and D.B. Woodside.

Obviously, the role of Charlotte is “going to have its challenges,” the actress acknowledged with a laugh when TVLine spoke to her at this week’s Saturn Awards. “I heard it put, ‘She’s not really that much older [than Lucifer and Amenadiel].’ But it will all make sense once you see it.”

The Battlestar Galactica alumna has only read the first two episodes and is afraid of “giving too much away” about her character, who’s been trapped in Hell for thousands of years by her ex-husband, God. “But,” Helfer allow, “very quickly once you meet her, you realize what she’s about and who she is. So we’re not going to leave people guessing. There’s been enough of that with the concern that she’s escaped from Hell.”

The official description of Charlotte notes that she “claims that all she wants is to spend time with her sons again. But can the devil’s mom really be that innocent?” As if to answer that very question, Helfer says, “There are a lot of layers to her. She’s going to be fun to play.” (With reporting by Vlada Gelman)

Season 2 of Lucifer kicks off on Monday, Sept. 19, at 9/8c. Will you be tuning in to see if the show hit the mother lode with Helfer?

Wait, if she’s white, and is mom to a white son and a black son, does that mean God is black?

    • "A" says:

That would be so awesome !!!
I say really go for it by making ‘God’ a African American woman ( played by Diahann Carroll, Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Bassett, Phylicia Rashad, Vanessa Williams, Queen Latifah, Wanda Sykes, or Oprah ) … and … watch the internet imploded as the naysayers/haters of the world try to come to terms with the fact that the creator of the universe and all it’s creatures was a lesbian couple.

      isnt God all races

    • Whatever says:

The official casting clearly said she is not happy trapped in a young human body. Hence it’s not her original look. They still haven’t lay out the “rules” with angels in this universe.

    • tsevca says:

Than both of them would be black, wouldn´t they? I know it´s possible, but those are anomalies. What is the chance it would happen to God? I guess they could make it that God isn´t just one of the possibilities, that he´s all of them – white, black, Asian, Arabic… Only humans can be only one. I´m more interested in the other angels. Are they God´s offsprings too? If so, who is their mother, since this one seems to have only those two children? If not, how did they get the same “position” as God´s sons?

    • Kwame says:

I said the same thing. The father has to be black. But they probably won’t ever show dear old Dad. They should let Morgan Freeman play God, lol.

  2. madhatter360 says:

They are all thousands of years old and don’t look it, why should it matter if she looks the same age as her sons?

    • Iris says:

Doesn’t matter to me. I don’t know about the characters but T.Helfer and A.Garcia are two actresses whom I I think are likeable and talented, so I’m rather happy with the casting news for Lucifer so far. And I’d like more Trixie.

    • Daya says:

That was my thought…they’re supernatural beings, they can look any way they want!

If you use Piers Anthony’s mythology, for example, the Master of Hell is an office and the occupant can choose their age when taking it. (See “For Love of Evil”)

  3. Michelle says:

    Doubt it but okay

  4. Brian Reid says:

not that am against any role tricia helfer gets, why noty jus employ a smoking hot 60 year old whocould be their mother!!

  5. roberta king says:
