Flash Eddie Returns

The Flash: [Spoiler] Returns, But How?!

The Flash‘s Barry Allen will (purposely) get a blast from his past shortly after the CW hit returns from its mini-hiatus.

The freshly released synopsis for the second episode back, “Flash Back” (airing March 29), reveals that former series regular Rick Cosnett will reprise his role as Eddie Thawne. But given that Eddie tragically died during the events of the Season 1 finale, there’s a twist involved.

The complete logline reads as follows:

After the shocking revelation that Zoom is Jay Garrick, Barry is more determined than ever to get back to Earth-2 to stop Zoom forever. Desperate to find a way to increase his speed, Barry decides to travel back in time and masquerade as his earlier self in order to get his arch-nemesis, Dr. Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne, to teach him how to run faster. However, things don’t go as planned and Barry is stunned to face familiar foe Hartley Rathaway (guest star Andy Mientus), as well as old friend Eddie Thawne (guest star Rick Cosnett). Iris makes peace with her past in order to embrace her future.

Since last airing as Eddie, Cosnett went on to recur on ABC’s Quantico, though his run on that show is now over — unless Barry time-travels back to Virginia, as well!

Do you think Cosnett will simply and only appear during Barry’s trip back to the past? Or might he also figure into an Earth-Two reveal, hmm?

    YAY! EDDIE!! :)

  2. N says:

Wait so I thought that was the super girl crossover ep. Wonder what they’re gonna say on this show.

    • Cris says:

The Supergirl episode is ‘Worlds Finest,’ and it is solely a Supergirl episode, not The Flash.

      • Cris says:

What I mean to say is she won’t cross over to The Flash, he’s crossing over to Supergirl. It’s a Supergirl episode.

  3. Rob says:

Well that’s good news! Rick Cosnett has quickly become the Sean Bean of Broadcast Network TV.

  4. Laura says:

The man in the iron mask?

  5. Luis says:

Well, we haven’t seen the Earth-2 Eddie Thawne yet!

  6. Chris Leonardi says:

And at the end of the episode, instead of ending up in present Central City, he finds himself in National City in another dimension, to be continued in the following monday’s supergirl.

    • ndixit says:

While that may actually be logical, this ep airs the day after the supergirl/flash crossover.

      • grass says:

The way I think it’ll work is that at the end of Tracjectory, Barry will be prepping to go back in time for the next episode, we see him disappear assuming that’s where he’s gone. But then on the next Monday’s Supergirl he appears in her universe instead of back in time in his, by mistake. Then at the end of the episode he’ll take off again to go back in time in his universe like he planned. So if you are someone who only watches The Flash, the continuity from Trajectory to Flash Back will make sense because you’d just assume he landed where he intended to go.

  7. If it works out that he ends up saving Eddie and bringing Eobard back to life, that’s fine. It helps preserve the timeline. The fact that the timeline didn’t unravel as a result of Eddie’s sacrifice infers that it will be undone. If Eddie kills himself and Eobard is never born, then Eobard can’t go back in time to kill Barry’s mom. The fact that he did implies that, despite the disappearing act at the end of season one, he has to come back to life somehow. It’s time travel 101.

    • KatsMom says:

They already explained that the speed force prevented Eobard from being totally wiped out of existence by Eddie’s sacrifice. He crossed paths with The Flash again, but, for Eobard, that happened BEFORE he killed Nora. It was Eobard’s past that crossed with Barry’s future. But, Eobard has no future because of Eddie’s sacrifice. In other words, based on what they’ve said, Eddie’s not coming back to life.

  8. Spoiler returns, then next to it is a big thumbnail of Eddie. Nice job. If you’re gonna post an article with possible spoilers, make sure that said spoiler is not in a thumbnail pic. *smh* I’m pretty sure it would have gotten ruined eventually through preview trailers and, as fans of the series, we all knew he was coming back so it’s not really a shocker. Just putting it out there for future reference.

If you are referring to the “Hottest Stories” list on the right rail, 1) kudos on your eyesight making out the itty-bitty Rick Cosnett (My own peepers ain’t so good, sigh), 2) thanks for noticing that module! and 3) I will see what we can do about it ingesting the homepage image (e.g. the generic Team Flash) versus the interior pic (e.g. Eddie) moving forward.

  9. Bologna38 says:

God I hope not didn’t like Eddie he was annoying and Iris was so annoying when she was with him. There is a episode coming up called Flash back which I think is going back to before Eddie died so that’s how Eddie is back I hope

  10. Joey Padron says:

Good news Eddie is coming back for an episode. Can’t wait for the show to be back with a new episode later this month!

  11. Hunter Garrick says:

In case you didn’t catch that, Jay Garrick is Zoom, not Hunter Zoloman. Can’t wait too see how this plays out!

  12. sarah j says:

I hope we will see and Earth 2 Eddie.

  13. Logan says:

Well he was killed off on Quantico show last December . So I guess only Flash can bring him back to life !

  14. I was hoping he would return on Earth 2 because this is almost exactly how Tommy reappears in Arrow (ie in the past).

  15. Weezy says:

Doesn’t that logline insinuate that Barry knows that Zoom is Jay Garrick? Could just be the way the logline was written, but I think it definitely alludes to that (which hasn’t been shown on the show yet). Do you guys think that means Barry figures out Zoom is Jay pretty quickly into the episode?

    • Shamwow says:

Considering this is the episode AFTER the one ending the mini-hiatus, I would assume at some point in THAT episode, Barry finds out Zoom is Jay.

  16. Mike Maher says:

When Eddie found out he was Thawne’s ancestor and thus Thawne couldn’t kill him without erasing his own existence, why didn’t Eddie just run out and get a vasectomy?

    • Gail says:

A vasectomy is not 100% guarantee. Eddie would still have impregnated someone in the future. Castration on the other hand……

  17. kath says:

Glad he’s coming back! Kind of messes up the Barry/Iris ship though since I thought Eddie/iris made way more sense.
He’s probably a villain on Earth 2 though.

  18. Gail says:

If Barry traveled to his own past, how come he doesn’t remember that he did this? I guess they will say the Barry of the past is visiting Star City. Perhaps when Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin went to Star City in Season 1. I love time travel. I hope it ends with Earth 1 Eddie being revealed as the Man in the Iron Mask .

So in the first episode back, probably at the very end, they find out Jay Garrick is Zoom? How did that happen since Earth 1 is cut off from Earth 2.? Will Jesse know?

  19. FH says:

ok.. its official.. the writers of the Flash.. are just messing with the every bodies mind. Its like being in a tornado of comic books and trying to find continuity. Loving and hating at the same time. Sweet and sour… but I am so into this show… that I just don’t care. Lets see if The flash can go more than 7 seasons.

  20. Mister says:

Eddie can always come back on E2. We notice on Barry and Iris’s phone that the switches read Dad, Mom and Dad, Eddie, Bruce (Wayne?), Hal (Jordan?), and Diana (Prince?).
These storylines can go anywhere! Why not playboy-billionaire Eddie Thawne?

  21. Addicted to speed..... force says:

Cool! Looove the idea Flash going back in time to manipulate RF!! I hope we see that RF suit again.

  22. Pete says:

    Okay this spoiler is Dumb!

Zoom is Hunter Zolomon and not Jay Garrick. Just like he was back in the comics!

They may be split personalities but it is more likely that Jay was actually one of the Quicks and not actually Garrick.

The real Jay is likely the person in the mask locked in Zoom’s Lair.

    • Gail says:

And the Jay that went to Earth 1 was a clone whose time was coming to an end which is why he had the cell degradation . Its also why Zoom grabbed him back to keep Team Flash from finding out he was a clone.
