Steve Harvey Miss Universe 2016 Return

Miss Universe Exec: Steve Harvey 'Absolutely' Welcome to Host in 2016

Despite his ceremony-ending mistake that named the wrong woman Miss Universe on Sunday, Steve Harvey is “absolutely” welcome back to host the 2016 pageant, says an executive with the company that produces the event.

Mark Shapiro, chief content officer for WME | IMG who was backstage at the pageant, made the comments on Jim Rome’s CBS Sports Radio show Tuesday. Shapiro said the Family Feud host was “humiliated” by accidentally announcing Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as Miss Universe when, in fact, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach had won the crown.

“He was very remorseful in that dressing room. That wasn’t a good scene. I mean, he just felt miserable that he let so many people down,” Shapiro said.

The exec also called ideas (including one raised by TVLine) that the blunder might have been staged in order to get people talking about the pageant “ridiculous.”

He added: “That’s just humorous. All I can do is just laugh that off,”

Despite the low moment, Shapiro maintained that Harvey “did a great job. He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he’s got a great following… I definitely want him back, and I would hate to see him not come back. He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself.”

Yes, and Obama will be introducing Trump as a presenter at the next NAACP Image Awards

  2. Just one thing says:

Considering his mere presence next year may increase ratings and interest 10-fold, there’s no doubt they’ll want him back in some capacity.

  3. wrstlgirl says:

That’s awesome. There’s something to be said for the way they’ve handled this unfortunate situation.

  4. rocktivity says:

Why shouldn’t they welcome him back? Think of how much LESS they’d have to pay him, LOL!

  5. maregolden says:

Of course they want him back. This is the most publicity the Miss Universe contest has had in years! I wouldn’t be surprised if it was intentional. (scripted)

  6. Shirley Cruz says:

Steve Harvey destroyed the experience for both contestants. It was such an epic fail that he shouldn’t get a second chance. If he hosts again next year, I won’t be tuning in.

  7. AngelWasHere says:

Haha I just want to say that was soooo embarrassing. Still cringing. 😅

  8. Larc says:

At least one Miss Universe exec is apparently as stupid as Steve Harvey.

    • Clover says:

Speaks to your character, you’re the type who’d hide and push things under the rug, I guess you not the type to take responsibility, that’s the problem with the world these days. Steve Harvey is a man of integrity unlike folks on here with their negative comments.

    • mary says:

I guess your perfect? Never made a mistake? Not human? Ah…not human.

  9. Judy says:

Absolutely! He’s funny, smart and an excellent host. I stopped watching Ms. Universe and Ms. America years ago… basically, its boring and predictable. but this year it was funny, engaging and the snafu at the end made the boring event finally relevant again! Go Steve Harvey. It’s not a life altering change.

  10. Pat Shaffer says:

LOVE Steve Harvey! A class act but even he is going to have to be able to ‘take a joke’. This instance is just too ripe for jokes! ;-)

  11. cuius says:

Think the wrong person is being targeted here – surely the presentation of the results to Harvey by the Miss Universe organisation (look around the web for a copy) was a disaster waiting to happen

  12. adam says:

Of course he should come back. He is a total gentleman.

  13. Buck King says:

    Sure, he’s only human,,,

  14. Mike says:

no I don’t , it was a very big mistake , the most important thing you have to say and you got it wrong . other than that I think he did a good job

  15. George Bromfield says:

Yes, he is a GOOD guy.

  16. Sista Irie says:

Of course he should. Anyone can make a mistake.

  17. Mae Butler says:

    Yes. He she come back.

  18. Elaine says:

Yes why not. We’re humans not machines and we make errors. No more no less

  19. Naomi Brown says:

Yes, I would for him to come back next year!!

  20. Karen-Ann Levine says:

Yes! Absolutely! It was a mistake. The news should stop harping on it already!

  21. Yes he should!! He made a mistake and has genuinely apologized! He’s only human! We all make mistakes. If he comes back next year they will get more ratings then ever! And I guarantee you he won’t make that mistake again! Yes! Let him do it!!!

  22. Geraldine Hash says:

Yes, definitely he should come back. He is human after all and we all make our share of mistakes

  23. S McMary says:

IMO, I don’t think Steve Harvey should host next year. I’m not saying he should be banned for life but I feel his presence would take way from the contestants which wouldn’t be right. I know some people will say it will be a distant memory by then but something tells me this incident will not be soon forgotten. I truly think he does feel bad but he shouldn’t be given the emcee job just for the purpose of “redeeming” himself. I mean, how many times has a person hosted an award show and done a less than stellar job only to never be approached again. I think that should be applied to Steve Harvey as well. Yes, it was one mistake and we are human but this was a doozy.

  24. David4 says:

The joke around the internet is that the only reason anyone even knew Miss Universe happened was because of the ‘mistake’, so they will have him back and people will watch to see if they make a mistake again.

  25. Gary Gans says:

Why is this outdated, misogynist competition still worthy of any mention? Time to end this farce.

  26. Ginger says:

Steve Harvey does not realize the enormity of not attending rehearsals and has yet to admit he did not attend key rehearsals. Did he misread other cards? He portrays himself as professional,
competent; yet, he made light of the contestant’s having to focus on confidence and stage presence. Where was his confidence and stage presence…he seemed awkward. Harvey did more harm to the integrity of the show, causing confusion, humiliation and resentment and does not deserve to host The Miss Universe Pageant again. . Fate has deflated Harvey’s ego… The fallout from hosting the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant will forever be on the Internet, might humble Harvey. Are you still “unavailable” for comment? A shameful asterisk to tarnish his legacy. Bernie Mac is shaking his head. Cedric, The Entertainer, are you available?
    Peace & Harmony

    • mary says:

Apparently you know him personally. Where do you get ego from making a mistake? Yet at the end of your comment you have the nerve to put peace & harmony? You don’t seem to have it. Geez people he is a human being who made a mistake & apologized for it. God help you if you ever make a mistake.

      • Ginger says:

One does not have to know someone personally to post a credible opinion. Harvey did not attend key rehearsals which would have prevented this confusion, humiliation and resentment. There would have been no mistake, otherwise.

Peace & Harmony takes no nerve at all… it takes sincere feelings and appreciation for my truth.
God helps us all; even those who find fault with Peace & Harmony.

        Faith & Joy.

  28. Leticia Javien Madariaga says:

I think he should come back. He did a good job. He did the best supposed to do and correct his mistakes. Nothing wrong to make mistakes as long you know how to correct and accept it. He is the best host.

  29. E Blue says:

A lot of folks are criticizing Steve Harvey because he made a mistake announcing the winner of the Miss Universe Pageant but he is a gentlemen, he is honorable, assumed responsibility for his mistake, was an excellent host, has a huge following and I’m sure more people watched the pageant this year than the last 5 years combined because Steve Harvey was the host. I’m so glad that he had been invited to host next year.

  30. Brad Lucas says:

Steve will do an excellent job! He’s bigtime professional and he will add value. Bring him back and watch the ratings soar!

  31. Jill says:

Yes everyone makes mistakes including celebrities. They are human!

  32. Jack Grande says:

Definitely. Steve is one of the best if not the best tv host around. People make mistakes and people just moves on after that mistake.

  33. Meg says:

Of course. We all make mistakes. I love Steve. He is hilarious.

  34. Harvey says:

We can make mistakes but dont let that mistakes happen again…..im with you Steve Harvey

  35. Jim Garvey says:
