Once Upon a Time: Greg Germann Cast as Season 5B's Devilish Mystery Man

ABC’s Once Upon a Time has cast one helluva role for the second half of Season 5.

TV vet Greg Germann (Ally McBeal) has landed the heavily recurring role of what is for now being dubbed “The Distinguished Gentleman,” TVLine has learned exclusively.

ABC would confirm no further details on the character or his storyline, but the casting call described him as “a mysterious figure with god-like powers who is always clad in a perfectly tailored suit,” someone who can “strike fear into people just by being friendly” and “the last person you ever want to share a drink with.”

Last month at New York Comic-Con, Once co-creator Eddy Kitsis summed up Season 5B as “hell,” spurring speculation that our heroes next will brave the Underworld and perhaps clash with Hades himself. Subsequent casting calls cited by Matt’s Inside Line — though not confirmed — suggest we will meet Hercules and Megara at some point this spring.

Germann will make his debut in this season’s 12th episode aka the series’ 100th, which will launch the second half of the season sometime in March.

In addition to his aforementioned run as Ally McBeal‘s Richard Fish, Germann’s TV credits include arcs on House of Lies, Raising Hope, NCIS, SVU and Chasing Life.

  1. Janey says:

    Will he like Cora’s waddle?

  2. Dean says:

Only know him as the NCIS deputy director.

  3. Just one thing says:

If it’s one thing this show needs, it’s more characters.

  4. Alex Jones says:

    could this be hades maybe?

  5. Jennifer says:

    So wanted James Woods :(

  6. Jason Long says:

I can see him being Hades. (Similar to James Woods in Hercules) Since the show is heading in that direction it would make some sense. Hercules is a Disney property that has not been used in the show yet.

  7. Brigid says:

I like this casting. I think he could play a great villain.

  8. Gail says:

Since the both film in Vancouver maybe he can also guest on Supergirl for an Ally McBeal reunion.

  9. A-C says:

Sounds a lot like he might be Hades.

  10. Amanda says:

This is a great casting and he has to be Hades!!! I’m really excited for this storyline and getting more of Greek mythology.

  11. Chol H Yoon says:

Looks like he maybe Hades, god of the underworld that may bring back Peter Pan & Cora (dead parents) to Rumple & Evil Queen (and Wicked Witch). I wonder how they’ll handle it (LOL).

  12. Kristina says:

    Awesome! Love him.

  13. Andrew says:

He’s an ok choice, but I was really hoping for Paul Gross, who played Daryl Van Horne in the failed Eastwick series.

  14. Kate says:

Eek, I forgot that Disney did in fact do Hercules as a movie.

  15. Lysh says:

Wow, nice! I haven’t seen him since Ally Mcbeal. I can definitely see him in this part.

  16. Dave says:

Sometimes I really wish OUAT would have stuck to classic fairy tales instead on throwing in everything from classic literature like Frankenstein to Greek mythology like Hercules. It’s gotten ridiculous what they’ve incorporated into a show that originally was about fairy tales characters.

    • Mia says:

OUAT was never only about fairy tales characters. Even in season first, there was already mythology used in the show, and Frankenstein part was already there at the beginning of season 2, and was planned since season 1. It was always supposed to be about characters from classic stories, not only fairy tales.

  17. prish says:

Aha! So, wife Persephone Spring and her mother Demeter Fall can’t be far away. This should be the most fun son-in-law and mother-in-law possible setup, ever.

  18. Wish OUAT brought Naveen Andrews back as Jafar! He would have been a great villain!

  19. Jason Bodine says:

Sounds a lot like Mr. Roarke from Fantasy Island lol. That *would* be an interesting twist…!

  20. browneyegurl says:

“We are going to focus on the main cast.”

“Let us introduce the 30th new guest star we casted for this arc.”

    • Rebecca says:

“We are going to focus on the main cast.” LOL. THIS. SO MUCH THIS. *introduces Merida* *introduces Camelot characters* *reintroduces old characters/villains* *introduces Hercules characters* *Charming only has one line in the season premiere*

  21. Suri says:

Wait a minute, there’s no way that’s going to happen because they didn’t mention about christian mythology expect for greek mythology which mean that he’s possibly going to be play as Hades, God of the dead and King of Underworld since they’re going to the underworld? anyway other thing that I’m really looking forward to see it since I really love greek mythology as well too.

  22. emily says:

Knowing ouat there is probably a big twist. I would really like to see Hades have a huge crush on regina that would be so adorable.
