Witches of East End's Rachel Boston on Ingrid's Killer Twist: What's Next?

Witches Of East End Ingrid Dead

Last Sunday’s Witches of East End left viewers hanging (too soon?) with a million burning questions, including: How can the Beauchamps possibly recover from this?

Fortunately, star Rachel Boston was ready and willing to give TVLine the inside scoop on Ingrid and Freya’s gut-wrenching twist, as well as offer a glimpse into the final few episodes of Season 2.

TVLINE |What was your initial reaction when you found out Ingrid was going to be killed?
Our producers kept saying there was a huge cliffhanger for Ingrid and Freya in Season 2, but they kept us guessing for a while. And then when they told us, I’m pretty sure we both dramatically screamed, “What!? Nooooo! We don’t want to die!” We didn’t realize that a huge cliffhanger would involve actual hanging.

TVLINE | Well played. How did they break that news to you?
They told us early on in the season, but when I read the script, I was absolutely shocked.  It was heartbreaking to imagine our mother and aunt finding us in the garden.  This is the longest Freya and Ingrid have ever lived, and Joanna has done everything possible to keep us safe in this life.  When we filmed the scene, I couldn’t stop crying when we were off camera. Julia Ormond really gave it her all.

TVLINE | That she did, and the shot of you two hanging was bone-chilling. How was that scene executed, so to speak? I’m assuming you and Jenna weren’t actually hanging by a tree.
It was all us! We were in harnesses that were attached to a crane right above the trees. I had a rehearsal the weekend before with our stunt coordinator Paul Wu, who made sure we felt safe and secure the whole time. I feel so blessed to be on this journey with Jenna. We had wonderful talks before and after this scene.  It’s powerful material.

Witches Of East End Ingrid DeadTVLINE | Switching gears a bit, are you a fan of Dash and Ingrid’s romantic relationship, and how would you like to see it evolve?
[Laughs] I am a huge fan of romantic relationships in general. I absolutely love the development between Dash and Ingrid and the complications of their past lives. Things get a little tricky when you’re dating your sister’s ex-finance who also happens to be the grandson of your former lover from another life.

TVLINE | Obviously you can’t spill the beans, but what will it take to bring Ingrid and Freya back to life?
Will someone have to make a sacrifice? You find out this Sunday! Wendy and Fredrick go to extreme measures to bring someone back from our past.

TVLINE | The previews for next week’s episode reveal the arrival of the King. What kind of trouble might he bring about in East End?
The King will be stirring up all kinds of trouble in East End.  Ingrid actually goes on quite a journey with the King as she discovers more about her life in Asgard. There are a lot of choices to be made.

TVLINE | With only a few episodes left in Season 2, how much crazier are things going to get for the Beauchamps?
So much crazier!  Next level crazier! The season finale is an epic, romantic, time traveling adventure. Prepare yourself for an emotional roller coaster. It’s going down in East End.

Witches fans, how do you hope the rest of Season 2 plays out? Browse sneak peek photos from Sunday’s episode, then drop a comment with your thoughts and theories.

It was shocking and unexpected to see Ingrid and Freya hanged in their backyard.
However, I really do not want to see them revived. Having the sisters successfully resurrected from the dead would only mitigate any real threat of mortal danger since Joanna/Wendy/Frederik could always employ this method in the future.

I’d rather the writers stick to the narrative of the curse to be instantly reborn that has been in play for hundreds of years even if it means hiring child actresses to play the roles of Ingrid and Freya. That would be very interesting to see. I’m also very open to the possibility of recasting the roles.

Nah, I think that although the girls will surely be brought back, that it’ll cost them dearly. I’m not worried about being left feeling like death is meaningless on this show. The king might be brought into it all to finally break the Beauchamp curse, but there will be some kind of high price that won’t have any easy fix that they could explore the effects of throughout the rest of this season and the next.

      • Ray says:

Hopefully there will be long lasting, serious repercussions. Honestly though, if there was a way to bring the sisters back wouldn’t Joanna have discovered it by now, seeing as she’s proclaimed to be this über powerful being?

        • Ian says:

Is Christian Cooke committed for the long haul? He’s got a whole British presence and film career, so maybe he’ll be one of the sacrifices to restore one of the sisters, probably Freya, and that’ll just be his exit. We’ll see.

          • Jen says:

I actually think Fredrick will die in the season final, so many speculation and rumors of a big death, I think he will die. But then why promote him as a regular for only one season.

        • Carla Krae says:

Joanna is powerful, but she doesn’t know everything. Frederick might be able to help in a way she can’t. And yes, the method will definitely have consequences. I’m sure this resurrection will be a one-time deal.

I honestly stopped watching after about episode 4 or 5. Something about this season is “off”. Not as fun as the first one.

    • Ray says:

You must have missed the whole season 2 “Darkness is rising” campaign. The darker tone is very much intentional. I was worried the show wouldn’t live up to that promise, but it has not disappointed in that regard.

    • Monica4185 says:

They lost me this season too. I don’t know what it was but something was really off. What I liked about season 1 isn’t there anymore.

    • cmunney says:

Yeah, as soon as I saw the “Darkness is rising” ads I knew that this season was going to bite. I couldn’t make it past episode three.

Has it been renewed yet?! One of my favorite shows!

Love her! Love the show! Can’t wait for tonight!
