The cabler has given a 10-episode order to The L Word and Chicago Code actress’ new drama Proof, where she’ll play a brilliant but caustic surgeon who’s hired by a cancer-stricken tech millionaire (Matthew Modine) to “investigate cases of reincarnation, out-of-body experiences, hauntings and other supernatural phenomena.”
Beals’ Dr. Carolyn Tyler will examine the question “Is death truly the end, or is there something else beyond?” all while grappling with “the recent, devastating loss of her teenage son, the breakup of her marriage to Dr. Len Barliss (Doctors‘ Sean Gleeson) and a growing estrangement from their daughter (The Hunger Games‘ Annie Thurman),” according to the network.
The show will also star Scandal‘s Joe Morton as Carolyn’s boss; Dead Like Me‘s Callum Blue as a best-selling author who claims to be psychic; Justified‘s Edi Gathegi as a hospital intern from the Sudan who assists Carolyn; and newcomer Caroline Rose Kaplan as the assistant to Modine’s guru.
TNT also granted a series order to Public Morals, a 1960s-set police drama from writer/director/executive producer Edward Burns (Mob City), who will also costar with Michael Rapaport (Justified) and Elizabeth Masucci (The Americans). Get more details here.
Both series are set to premiere in 2015.
