What to Watch Friday: The Carries Diaries and Grimm Return, Dracula Premieres and More

Grimm - Season 3On TV this Friday: The Carrie Diaries returns with Samantha in tow, Grimm comes back with a zombie horde, Dracula takes its first bite, Strike Back‘s origins story premieres in the U.S. and more. Here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm The Carrie Diaries (CW) | Season 2 premiere: The Sex and the City gang’s half here! After a night on the town with Donna LaDonna is ruined when Sebastian shows up, Carries meets the iconic man-eater herself, Samantha Jones (Lindsay Gort, Vegas). How will Samantha’s voracious… appetite be handled on this teen-friendly show? (Read our full preview.)

8 pm Clara’s Deadly Secret (Lifetime Movie Network) | When daughter Kate (Ella Ballentine, Baby’s First Christmas) makes an imaginary friend in their new house in the country, family matriarch Helen (Emmanuelle Vaugier, Two and a Half Men) must solve the mystery of a young girl who died in the very same house. Richard Ruccolo (Rita Rocks) also stars.

8 pm The Hunters (Hallmark Channel) | In this adaptation of the comic book/modern-day Snow White riff Mirror Mirror, Carter (played by Dan Payne, Primeval: New World) and Jordyn (Michelle Forbes, The Killing) travel the world protecting fairytale artifacts. When they disappear during a mission, sons Paxton (Robbie Amell, The Tomorrow People) and Tripp (Keenan Tracey, Bates Motel) must defeat a deceitful family friend (Victor Garber, Alias) with the help of their parents’ assistant Dylan (Alexa Vega, Ruby & thRockits).

9 pm Grimm (NBC) | Season 3 premiere: Juliette, Monroe, Rosalee and Hank try to fend off a zombie horde and figure out what happened to Nick, while Captain Renard tries to rescue the Grimm from his brother (James Frain, True Blood). Shohreh Aghdashloo (24) and Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards) also guest-star. (Read our preview.)

9 pm Hawaii Five-0 (CBS) | Catherine’s seemingly harmless surveillance job takes a deadly turn. Terry O’Quinn (Lost) returns as Joe White.

9 pm The CW Special: The iHeartRadio Album Release Party with Katy Perry (CW) | Mario Lopez (Extra) hosts this celebration of Perry’s new album Prism, featuring a live performance by the singer. Well-placed sources tell us you’re going to hear her roar.

10 pm Dracula (NBC) | Series premiere: Johnathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) stars in this new take on Bram Stoker’s famous vamp. This time, Drac’s posing as an American entrepreneur in late 19th-century London to get intel on this new technology called “electricity”… and, you know, take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality. His plans are rocked when he becomes infatuated with a woman (Jessica De Gouw, Arrow) who seems to be his dead wife reincarnate. Nonso Anozie (Game of Thrones) plays Dracula’s confidante, while Thomas Kretschmann (The River) is famed hunter Van Helsing. (Read preview.)

10 pm Strike Back: Origins (Cinemax) | The UK’s original Strike Back series is being shown for the first time Stateside. John Porter (Richard Armitage, Robin Hood) and Hugh Collinson (Andrew Lincoln, The Walking Dead) attempt to rescue hostages from a situation tied to a mission one of them ran in Iraq in 2003.

10 pm Blue Bloods (CBS) | Danny and Baez investigate the possible/contested kidnapping of a young girl.

10 pm Haven (Syfy) | Duke deals with his nightmare of a brother, while Nathan and Lexie track down a trouble that attacks people in their nightmares.

  • Carrie Diaries, Grimm, Dracula, H50, Blue Bloods and Haven are all going on the dvr. I’ll be watching a football game :-) I really, really hope Dracula is good. I love how some of the Haven actors are tweeting fans to watch them live and not Grimm. Seems they are afraid of this bit of returning competition. Personally it’s coming across to me as desperate.
