Fall TV: ABC Premiere Dates Include Two-Hour Grey's, October Launch for Wonderland

Fall TV Schedule ABCLast but never least, ABC has revealed its premiere plan for the fall TV season, and it includes — as TVLine predicted — a two-hour opener for Grey’s Anatomy Season 10, as well as a supersized return for Modern Family.

ABC’s schedule (more or less) kicks off Sept. 16 with the new season of Dancing With the Stars, while the network’s 100-percent new, S.H.I.E.L.D.-fronted Tuesday line-up debuts Sept. 24. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland closes ABC’s premiere slate with its Oct. 10 series debut.

  • Putting OUAT premier at the same start date as VD S5 opener isn’t that smart.
    Glad for GA double opener.

    • If you think The Vampire Diaries is going to outperform OUATIW though, you’re wrong.

      • Putting it against BBT on a weekly basis isn’t smart, but it will be practically unaffected by VD.

      • sorry but there is no way that once upon a time in wonderland will beat vampire diaries in ratings, they are on there fifth season and there ratings are thru the roof, most of America tunes in to watch, and where as i love once upon a time there sporadic scheduling last season lost A LOT of fans, and a lot the fans still here do not think having a spin off is a smart move right now. so sorry but i really don’t think the show has even a sliver of a chance of beating the vampire diaries in ratings.

        • No cw show has ratings that are “thru the roof” it MIGHT be semi-close in the demo but wonderland will still probably come out on top.

        • While your loyalty to Vampire Diaries is sweet and a testament to it’s survival on a network that specializes in cult hits for young audiences (which is what the CW and VD are, in a nutshell), you are unfortunately mistaken about the ratings. Vampire Diaries gets roughly 2.5 million viewers a week (most of America, you say?), for new episodes, while OUAT, which is in the mainstream, closes over 6mil, every week. (What roughly amounts to a 1.1 vs. a 2.3 share every single week.) Whether Once Wonderland has the traction that OUAT has, and beats VD, remains to be seen – but it’s entirely possible, considering the fact that OUAT’s existing audience is already double VD’s. Wonderland is also the lead-in for Grey’s, which consistently beats both in the ratings game, so Wonderland might also have this going for it, too.

        • VAMPIRE DIARIES finale: 1.0 demo rating, 2.2 million viewers
The very cancelled LAST RESORT finale ratings: 1.2 demo rating, 5.4 million viewers
The very cancelled MISSING finale ratings: 1.3 demo rating, 6.5 million viewers

        • Actually most of the fans saw this coming (the spin off series) and where looking forward to it, so I dont know where you are getting this info.

  • Woohoo for Two Hour Grey’s Premiere! #10SeasonAndStillStandingStrong!

Meanwhile, Sunday night shows seem so overly melodramatic: Once Upon A Time, Revenge, Betrayal :P

Comment by trainwreck – July 16, 2013 12:58 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • The Sunday night shows are so much fun though! Well, Once I hope gets better after that disappointing finale. Revenge is back in top form and I can’t wait to see it (that season finale was AMAZING), and I don’t have any interest in Betrayal.

  • As someone who doesn’t really pay attention to these things that much, is it risky to put a whole new block of shows all on one night (Tuesday)? Or does that happen often?

Comment by David – July 16, 2013 01:09 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Oh, it’s plenty risky. Especially when two of them are highly mediocre.

Comment by Matt Webb Mitovich – July 16, 2013 01:17 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • It’s a huge gamble for them. I can see S.H.I.E.L.D. doing well, but the rest might falter. Potentially this will be their weakest night (excluding Friday).

  • I really despise the split seasons. Here’s an idea. Instead of shows taking off for weeks on end, why not alternate 2 series in the same time slot? Jack Benny Show did this for years.

      • Wish that were possible.. but only peerson Callie had more screentime with other than Arizona was Mark – sadly no there anymore. Only if Bailey or Cristina can divert her attention from her cheating better half!

  • Scandal doesn’t start until October… good grief. They open their season 6th…they could have started Scandal on the 19th (the week before Greys)

Comment by H.Houston – July 16, 2013 02:42 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Not really. Grey’s is 2 hrs from 9-11 cutting into Scandal’s time slot. ABC’s plan from what I gather is to air all new episodes from September till the Christmas break. Starting Scandal the week prior to Grey’s wouldn’t make sense seeing as it wouldn’t be on the week of Grey’s premiere.

  • Hope for a lot of Dr.Bailey sceen time. She is gonna save the Chief. And hopefully as little time as possibly of Jo. Jo go away. Bring back Izzie or Lexie. I know Lexie died but everybody knows their a way to bring her and Mark back Shonda does want too. That was revenge on the fan for have an opinion. If she had of killed Mer/Der, she would have found away to bring them back. And I would have been happy because I love Mer/Der just like I love Slexie.

  • Tough premiere date on September 23rd: Castle vs. The Blacklist vs. Hostages in the 10 p.m. Monday night time slot.

  • First cancellations will go to: Lucky 7, Betrayal and Super Fun Night. OUATiW not looking too strong either at that time. Happy for the two-hour Greys premiere but at the same time that means we get less weeks with original showings and therefore more breaks in between. Super excited about SHIELD, Scandal and Nashville…

Comment by Ana – July 16, 2013 03:09 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Glad for the 2 hour premiere of Grey’s but premiering Wonderland 2 weeks after and Scandal in the middle? Why not premiere OUATIW and Scandal on the same night? It’s a tough timeslot for Wonderland but I am really looking forward to the show and look at the original Once. People thought it would tank I remember it well and I said your joking right? I hoping it does better than people think and run 2nd behind CBS. Lets face it the 8pm hour is theirs.

Looking forward to SHIELD, Castle, Revenge and Once as well. Big season ahead with so many better new shows on offer across the board than last season and yes there are already some duds.

  • I, for one, can’t WAIT to see if Callie leaves Arizona. Arizona kept talking about how she lost a leg when Callie lost nothing (because your bff, daughter’s father and – apparently – your wife doesn’t count). I want to see Arizona eating her words and wanting a second chance (again…anyone else remember Africa?) and Callie turning her down cold. Callie was amazing during the whole thing and the only reason she took the leg was to save her life. At some point, that has to be important.

  • they start later, end earlier, and go into repeats sooner every damn year. soon, all seasons will consist of 3 episodes and a “retrospective” featuring favorite clips from those 3 episodes. why are we bothering?

  • I thought Once Upon A Time in Wonderland was slated for mid season, to “bridge” the gap that OUAT would have when it went on hiatus in winter?
