Idology: Is Angie Unbeatable? Candice and Kree Dissed Again? Plus: Debating Harry Connick Jr!

Season 12 of American Idol is down to three closely matched ladies — but is the race already over?

On this week’s Idology, my cohost Melinda Doolittle and I look at the number of Twitter followers for Angie Miller in relation to her two remaining rivals, Kree Harrison and Candice Glover, and wonder if she’s unstoppable. Even if the answer is “yes,” though, we outline reasons why it’s vital for Angie to return to her highest performance level after fumbling the ball a bit during Top 4 Redux Week.

Melinda and I also take a look at some questionable comments directed at Candice and Kree, and outline strategies for the duo to make this the closest Top 3 race possible. And yes, there’s a bit of disagreement over the mentoring style of Harry “Randy, Stop!” Connick, Jr. Finally, Melinda offers insights from her own Season 6 experiences that shed light on the pressures that the Season 12 women are currently enduring.

    • Muffy says:

I think a lot of the problem with this season is that they didn’t get any mentoring. I think that Kree and Amber especially could have benefited from some guidance with song selection and stage presence. I read somewhere that they got personality lessons for Candice, but they all could have used some help. Although Angie is not the best singer in the group, she does seem to understand her capabilities and audience the best o all of them.

      • MB says:

I don’t think it was true about Candice’s personality training. It was such a joke on twitter about this and Candice was laughing and SHH over it.

        • AlyB says:

Yeah it was just a rumor that got blown up into something “scandalous” claiming the other girls were upset etc.. turns out it wasnt even true. They have all kinds of coaches and people helping them out. Someone just made something out of nothing

      • Teeny Bikini says:

I agree about the mentoring. That is why Harry Connick was a breath of fresh air.

        • I think Harry Jr was spot on in the suggestions he made. Sometimes the contestants put so many runs, etc. into their singing performances you can’t recognize the song. Harry Jr has been around quite a while so he should know.

      • Lee says:

I agree that lack of mentoring was a major problem this season. So how can anyone call this one of the best Top 3 or 4 in Idol history? IMO it isn’t. Amber didn’t even understand what she was singing thereby not being able to make the songs her own or sing them with raw emotions. Kree is what you would call a static character. As far as I’m concerned, her style of singing hasn’t changed since Day 1 which means she hasn’t gotten better at all. She’s just the same as she’s always been. This is probably why the voters are getting bored with her and not voting for her. IMO the only true artist and singer this season is Candice. But last year we had 3 artists and singers in the Top 3: Phillip, Jessica and Joshua.

        • Mercedes S. says:

Two Idol winners who insisted on being the same as they had always been – Phillip Phillips and Scotty mcCreary.

        • teatime says:

I think all of the winners have started the show with strong musical identities and strong opinions about what works for them and what types of performances they want to give. It is the contestants who try too hard to react to the judges and mentors who end up tripping themselves up. If you try something different and it ends up being one of your worst performances, then so be it. But if you start jumping thru hoops to try to please the judges and producers then you really lose momentum as a contestant. Siobhan would be an example of a contestant that had a lot going for her but then reacted too much to the random non-helpful critiques.

      • Nan says:

i don’t think that you can say there hasn’t been enough mentoring. I’ve read that Jimmy spends a lot of time working with the singers. They just don’t show it like they did in past years. I do think they should announce the themes right after auditions are over and give the singers a couple of months to learn songs and research arrangements. This would give you a better idea of their capabilities than the present system, however it may not be as good television.

    • Temperance says:

As far as I’m concenred Angie is a non-entity; she’s just miles inferior to Candace. Really, not only not in the same ballpark, but not in the same city.

      • paul burnett says:

in my opinion your wrong and angie is better and more credible artist and candice is not as good as everyone says she is (although I do like her ) over rated my opinion

        • Lola says:

Candice’s voice is light years better than Angie’s. She is not an entertainer. Didn’t you hear Mariah Carey say that there were people in the industry (other professional singers) who were dumbounded by Candice’s talent? Or that they wondered how she did the things she could do? Angie will win. She’ll be another one hit wonder (if that). I believe Candice will have a recording career – maybe not a huge stage presence.

          • Ducky8abug says:

One of the reasons why I keep watching her videos is because she possesses something that Angie, Amber and Kree lack….and that’s stage presence. She commands the stage and the audience with raw emotion and it shows with every expression she let’s sail as she’s singing. Think about it. Why do you think the video for “I Who Have Nothing” and “Lovesong” has so many views? It isn’t just because she sang those songs beautifully. It’s because as your watching her, you cannot keep your eyes off of her. She performs and sings as if she’s talking directly to you and that is not something that can be coached by Jimmy Lovine or by any mentor. That’s raw talent! Stage presence and great vocal ability are the reasons why Candice is getting noticed by people in the music and entertainment industry.

      • Rudy Pataky says:

Typical Candice fan, jealous and mean spirited.

      • Jasmine says:

Well, judging by the fact the she’s still there, I’m sure millions of people will disagree with you. Even if Angela doesn’t win, she’s still going to make it, despite all the haters trying to bring her down. She’s to good for all this nonsense though.

        • bingham says:

Oh I have no doubt that she will win. That’s why the rating this season are the lowest they’ve ever been. And that’s why I also have no doubt that the idol tour attendance this year will be the lowest it’s ever been. But congrats to her, she’s def in it to win it. I ain’t watching because I have zero interest in her or her music. TBH I don’t find anything compelling about any of these top 3 and I can not take one more balland, I just can’t. Still love idology tho! ;)

          • teatime says:

The ratings have been down all season because it has been a boring season full of ballads and where there has been too much producer manipulation. The tour attendanc will be low because it will be a tour full of ballads and the producers had too muche control over who made onto the tour in the first place.

        • Jessiesk says:

It’s because she is a cute blond who god loves and she loves god. Yeah her! She will do well in the Christian market but really, don’t push her on us.

          • Jasmine says:

Are you color-blind or something. Angie’s not a blonde, she’s a brunette. Don’t make her a mockery of her religion. It’s part of who she is and it will always be. Don’t make fun of that. I’m not forcing her on anyone. I’m just praising her talent and I can agree or disagree with whatever people say about her. She’s my favorite and millions of others favorites (just as Candice has favorites and Kree has favorites). I think Angie’s fans are entitled to say whatever they want in regards to Angie.

          • Bessie says:

And Angie’s non-fans are entitled to say whatever they want in regards to Angie. That’s what forums are for, don’t get so defensive. LOL.

          • Jasmine says:

Bessie, I see you want to pick fights. Well, I’m over it. You are entitled to your wrong opinion. and Angela (yeah, I said Angela, sue me) should win.

I was just about to go to sleep :)

    • must mean something else to you but idc says:

why are you prefacing your comments with bullsh-t’d? It’s kinda rude if you ask me!

      • marie says:

No, LOL, it’s not THAT kind of “bs’d” at all. Another poster explained it in a recent article; it’s an abbreviation for a phrase in Aramaic asking (if I remember correctly) the Lord to help you write with kindness (sorry if I have that wrong – at any rate, the other poster said she prefaced her posts that way to remind herself to be kind). I’m not going to even try to render the actual Aramaic, but seriously, if you’re interested, look back a few Slezak Idol articles and find posts by Rivky, who explains all this.

  3. Anna says:

Twitter followers seem to have little to do with future success, so even if Angie does win, that doesn’t really mean anything going forward with her career. Especially since she doesn’t really have a ton of followers (140K or so when I looked this morning), just that she has more than either of the other 2.

IMO, based on talent and overall consistency in terms of performances, Candice SHOULD win. But I think that Angie is probably the betting favorite.

    • Teeny Bikini says:

This. And yes, Candice should win.

    • dude says:

Completely agree with everything you said. Candice should win. I love Angie and think her voice is gorgeous BUT she looks sooo much like a post-Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus that I can’t even focus on her performances most of the time.

      • ChloeSunshine says:

I am soooo glad I’m not the only one who sees it! That is all I see when I’m watching Angie sing. I love her voice but its almost like watching Miley Cyrus, who I can’t stand, sing.

        • tewence says:

gah i have gotten the miley thing, too! can’t shake it.

        • Jasmine says:

They’re voices sound nothing alike, though. They just have similar faces and before Miley went all short and blonde, they had similar hair. That’s it, though. Angela’s voice sounds way better than Miley Cyrus’s voice. I do like Miley Cyrus’s voice however.

        • Betty Cammack says:

I totally agree. Cyrus has ruined her career, and I too can’t look at Angie for that reason.

      • Juan says:

Angie has the Marie Osmond “cheese factor” too.

  4. Mari says:

Oh look you’re finally talking about Angie.

    • Aaron says:

Finally talking about Angie and I for one could not be more bored.

      • *lg* says:

I can’t take the girl seriously because every time I look at her, all I see is Miley Cyrus.

        • Temperance says:

Except Miley is usually more in tune.

          • JON says:

            And a bong.

          • Jasmine says:

Really? Miley’s usually more in tune? The girl can sing, but Angela is better. I agree, Shop Around had tuning issues, but pretty much all of Angela’s performances have been crystal-clear in tune. I don’t understand where people are getting this nonsense that she sings out of tune. That’s not true! If Angela sings out of tune, then all the contestants sing out of tune, Lazaro being the worst one! Do you really want to compare Angela to Lazaro? Because by this inane comment, that’s what you just did. Check your ears! Angela’s fabulous!

        • Rudy Pataky says:

I have a box of Cue Tips for you.

        • Jessica says:

Exactly! I fast forward her b/c all I see is Cyrus.

          • Jasmine says:

She can’t help it that she looks like Miley Cyrus. Why punish her for that? That’s so stupid. I guess you guys can’t see past looks! What’s wrong with society? That’s why we are the way we are today. Especially girls. Such a disgrace.

          • MB says:

God forbid someone mentions Candice’s weight and everyone gets up in arms and gets called all sort of names but I am sitting here seeing people rip poor Angie apart and making fun of her because they think she looks like Mylie Cyrus so they can’t take her serious. Well guess what she was born that way. I for one thinks Angie is beautiful and is a very talented girl. It is a shame that you are judging someone because of her looks just as it is wrong to do that to Candice it is wrong to do that to Angie. She is a human being with feelings to. Shame on you!

          • Jasmine says:

I hope you’re (MB) talking about the person who first commented. I absolutely agree with you! Angela’s face is just stunning, beautiful, gorgeous to me. She looks better than Miley Cyrus, in my opinion. But Candice is beautiful too. She doesn’t need to lose weight (only if she wants to, however. That is fine.) All the contestants are beautiful in their own way. I just personally like Angie more.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Yeah. I also noticed on another site that people were flipping over every (admittedly unfair) comment about Candice and her face and supposed personality and so on and saying it was shameful and awful and this and that (and actually it was) but then the same people were trashing Angie in the exact same way AND even worse by spouting factual lies even on the next post below! And then I see someone called them on it a bunch and then they got all upset and trashed Angie some more while saying that her fans were awful. haha. gotta love it.

          • Jasmine says:

Yeah, that makes no sense. It’s unfair. And it makes me mad. Angie does not deserve all this hate! For the millionth time, she can’t help that she looks like Miley Cyrus. It’s so upsetting. Go Angela! Win it for the dreamers!

          • MB says:

You are right Angie does not deserve this hate and neither does any of these girls. They all seem like such nice girls who genuinely love each other. One girl said that they got so close that it will be amazing no matter who wins. It is okay to have your favorites but it is not okay to rip any of them apart. Jasmine I am not saying you, I am responding to the supposedly mature fans posing on this blog. Tearing another contestant apart is not going to make your favorite appear better.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

(by her face, I mean someone was saying that her face looked “mean” supposedly and that she must be mean and hate all of the other contestants)

  5. AtoZ says:

Great recap of the week as always. Love you guys! Where’s the interview with Janelle? Is there one on the way????

  6. Mamamitzvah says:

    bs’d
They summed up my feelings exactly!! Fir once, I have nothing more to say :)

  7. It’s not just about runs that cover up a melody. If you study music and understand the rules of music forms like jazz, then you understand that not ALL notes randomly chosen are appropriate. That’s what Connick was saying with the runs some of the contestant chose were “wrong” and “in correct.” Music has keys and rules. It’s like believing that stream of consciousness writing is the same as a random word generator–it’s not.

    • Teeny Bikini says:

      Exactly. Thank you! Hello, Michael?

    • Sara says:

You really hit the nail on the head with this statement.

    • TVDIVA says:

I think Harry Connick was correct in trying to teach the contestants to understand the lyrics – what is the emotional story that the song is trying to convey? That is what the singer needs to get across to the audience. Ella Fitzgerald had an eight octave rang and could scat and run better than anyone I ever heard. But she did not show off. Everything she sang was part of the story she was telling to entertain. These kids are just trying to make it through the song on key, remember the words and look in the right camera. Sometimes they rush through, and they are definitely stressed out and tired. But I wish they had more coaching like Harry gave them to get them to understand what is underneath what they are singing, no matter what genre itis.

      • tvdiva says:

Sorry I meant eight octave range.

        • marie says:

Ella was great, IMO probably the best woman jazz / pop singer ever. But no one has an 8-octave range – it’s probably not even possible; a little Googling tells me Ella had a still-very-impressive 3-octave range – and that’s really wide.

          • AlyB says:

Yes, that’s exactly right. No human being has an 8 octave range. That’s all the notes on a piano. A 3 octave range is what a good singer can manage. A 3 1/2 octave range is outstanding. Some greats have 4 or 5 octave ranges but that is exceedingly rare. It was said that Minnie Riperton had a 5 octave range. I don’t know anyone that can do more in full voice.

          • My Alter Ego says:

marie, not only did Ella have a good, solid 3 octave range, but additionally she was in the enviable position of not having a noticeable break between her lower and upper ranges. And while others may not be envious of that, I certainly am! :-)

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Man oh man oh man could Sarah on The Voice yesterday ever have benefited from some of his advice yesterday! Wow how over cooked can you make Angel! And even worse the runs were all warbly and almost goaty on top.
        .
She started out so promising but has been getting worse.

  8. dani n. says:

Thought the best Harry mentor moment was when he demonstrated how a run sounds on piano. Too bad he wasn’t there 6 months ago so these kids could digest what he said. Too bad they threw Amber under the bus. Too bad I don’t like Angie & when she played her original song I did. Too bad this years winner is predictable
Too bad Harry absolutely sucked during his own performance.

    • Amy says:

LOL…love your pithy “too bads”…which I feel too. (except the Amber thing…I personally didn’t feel she got thrown under the bus…she simply seemed to me to be the next likely to go.) Amber has a beautiful voice and the obvious commercial factor that’s been acknowledged time and again, but in terms of finished, polished, consistent performances…the remaining girls, especially Kree & Candice, (who I believe are the rightful top 2 in terms of just vocal & recording ability) are just heads and tails above Amber. Angie has the writing talent, the commercial factor and an apparent devoted fan-base.

      • Tom22 says:

I’m with you guys. They were able to look at the votes.. they saw the writing on the wall. They read the anger in fans of the show who wouldn’t be Amber’s audience anyway. They figure.. ok she’s out.. lets salvage the “playing favorites” thing a tiny bit by giving her a harsh edit (like Michael said, it wasn’t what needed to be said but if they needed to put a worst foot forward….certainly quite a negative one about a pratice “mentoring” session with the whole purpose being a place to teach and correct mistakes early.)

I’d even go so far to say , that being shoved a bit in the back while she was going anyway might have made it look more like a reason to get behind her than if she just got a few less votes.

I wouldn’t put it past Jimmy and the producers tto think that that showing the criticism provides a talking point publicity and a legacy cover about the circumstances involved with of her early exit(“the girl who left idol after being lectured by a lounge singer” (sorry Harry.. that was hyperbole that announcer/spinners would use.. you’re far more than that).

    • Totally agree! The runs on the piano were perfect! It was so clear.

    • Teeny Bikini says:

LOL. Agree with everything. But Harry’s musical training is self-evident and he is a great technical teacher, especially pinpointing the “point” of a song and its execution. This comment was hilarious. Yup, Harry has had better performances in his heyday ;)

  9. Krista says:

She was the plant all along.Just add that to a completely suspense-less season.

  10. Elsa says:

My problem with Angie is simple. I do recognize that she is talented but I just don’t like her voice.

    • Amy says:

For me, it’s that “chills” factor that gauges a singer who can not only sing, but moves me…because what moves me, is ultimately what moves me to buy music. I’m like Keith…(and I think much of the music buying public)…I gotta feel something in my music…otherwise all the vocal gymnastics in the world won’t matter to me. Only Candice and Kree, (and Janelle on “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”), have given me chills this year, because they DO know what they are singing about, their “embellishments” ARE organic and natural, and DO make sense to the lyric, and therefore draw me in and move me. Angie has had some powerful vocals, some sweet sounds occasionally, but I have not felt one thing in any of the performances…powerful and all. I don’t know why, but that is the mystery of how music weaves it’s spell….or …doesn’t. And the magic of how one singer can do it for someone and another can’t. At least that’s my take on it..

      • natalie says:

Absolutely agree. Not to discredit Angie because she has a nice voice but not one that makes me feel anything like Candice and Kree do. It’s an innate thing I believe and Angie simply doesn’t have it for me. I don’t ‘feel’ the pain when she sings an emotional song. She just sings.

        • deedee says:

That’s how I feel, too. Keith summed it up well a few weeks ago when he said there’s no “humanity” in Angie’s singing. There’s a lack of warmth that makes all her technical perfection or pretty tone completely irrelevant (for me). She may be unbeatable and destined to win, but she is the third best singer/performer/interpreter-of-music left in the competition.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

@deedee – To me you are describing Kree at this point. Angie is bringing some of the top three level energy and connection (a trace less last week but still more than Kree and a lot the two prior weeks).

          • deedee says:

That’s fine. I’ll agree that Kree needs to inject some energy in her stage presence. Still, Kree gives me the kind of soul that Angie has never even approached. I can’t open a spreadsheet and give you the facts and figures on why … it’s purely on a feeling level.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

What can I see from my side I rarely ever feel anything from Kree. With Angie (and Candice) I certainly have far more.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Part of it is that Kree seems to have dropped her game in recent weeks while the other two have picked it up. There was a bit in the early middle where Angie had dropped it a bit and Candice was something amazing technically but not quite with the full on connection and Kree looked relatively better IMO. If she stays as far away from her country side as she can and performs at the best she has then I might be more inclined to buy that than what Candice does though.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

I mean “What can I say”. All three are solid. To me Kree lacks the extra magic of the other two and her raw vocals are not as spectacular as Candice’s or even necessarily a match for Angie always.

          • AlyB says:

It’s become almost like a Goldilocks and the Three Bears moment for me. Angie is too much, Kree is too reserved but Candice is just right.

      • GMom100 says:

That’s a great way to put it! I agree except I cannot feel ANYTHING when Kree sings. It’s hard to put into words, but I’ll try. Candice and Amber were the only ones who really gave me the chill factor (Amber not ALL the time). But Amber’s tone is beautiful! So rich. And Candice is a real pro! She should win!

        • Amy says:

Totally agree GMom…in case I didn’t make that clear above…chill factor from the 3 I mentioned aside, YES…”Candice is a real pro! She SHOULD win!” …Cuz I don’t even care about marketability blah blah at this point anymore…because it winds up being up to TPTB, (which often have scr*wed it up with post-idols anyway.) There’s been such a mix of fantastic singers and my favorite idols who got marketed poorly, or just didn’t fit some “pop culture” niche. And there’s been singers with a low showing on Idol that have gone and done well. So for me, I just care about who I like (or love) and want to buy music from. Candice is that singer this year…she has been a cut above everyone; delivered polished, complete performances in every genre. Kree is my second…because I love her style of music and the beautiful & unique quality of her voice..though yes, something will have to evolve stage-presence for her. It will. I’ve seen that happen with David Archuleta, seeing him live several times since Idol…grown a lot; he’s warm, engaging, fun & comfortable in his skin (and that voice, better than ever.) But I do “get it” above from the comments…what moves me isn’t gonna move the next guy…so not everyone feels something from the same singer. Still…no one can argue with Candice’s vocal talllllennnnnnt. Capital T! ;-)

          • Amy says:

one more thing…loved two of Keith’s lines last week: “each of these voices has found their audience.” Post-idol, it’s different once they are performing and “preaching to their respective choirs”, who “get” whatever brand of music & style of singing each is selling. But I know…you gotta sell records too, to have a career. Thankfully, there are lots of independent routes in music now and ways for your audience to enjoy you, commercial-pop success or not. Keith’s other line quoting that producer: “If you have a hit record you’ll have an experience; if you have and audience, you’ll have a career.”

      • tvdiva says:

In all the years of AI, this is the first time I ever downloaded songs and I have only downloaded those by Candice. She puts her heart in every song and I can feel it. Her version of Find Your Love overpowers Drake’s original version. Her renditions of Emotion and Straight Up could get lots of radio airplay. The Lovesong video gives me goosebumps every time I see it. And her songs on ITUNES are all better than her live performances (except for Lovesong. That live performance is amazing.) I wish all the contestants made me feel something when they sang. Most of them make me want to hug them because they look so scared.

      • Mercedes S. says:

If there was a “like” to click below your post, Amy, I would click it!

    • Teeny Bikini says:

I think her voice is fine. There is a place for it. But for me, I cannot relate to it or her IN ANY WAY. It will be interesting to see who wins….

      • ETG says:

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I don’t relate to Angie, just like I didn’t relate to Colton Dixon last year. There is just something off-putting about both of them. Perhaps they should tour together, maybe even get married, lol.

        • Jasmine says:

Oh so because they’re both Christian artists you’re going to compare them? To be honest, I couldn’t stand Colton Dixon. Maybe that’s because my favorite that season was Elise Testone. But, I don’t know, I just didn’t like him, his personality, the fact that he was a cute white boy who played instruments. I just hate when girls vote for boys just because of their looks. He was cute, okay! But he did not have the best voice and I’m glad he went home in seventh place. Thank God Elise outlasted him, even if for a week. I really loved Elise. I wish her and Haley Reinhart would come back! Now back to this season, I really adore Angela.

          • teatime says:

Thank you for pointing this out. Angie and Colton both play piano. Angie and Colton are both Christian. That is where the similarity ends yet they are often referred to as ‘the same” by commenters who single them out as the type of contestants they do not like. I am so naive I had no idea how much anti-Christian sentiment there is out there until I started reading all the anti-Angie comments here that center on her religion.

          • Jasmine says:

Right. They shouldn’t be lumped together just because they’re both Christian. They are nothing alike to me. Also, I love Angie Miller. I can’t say that about Colton Dixon. I didn’t like him at all. But anyway, I hope Angie does fantastic tonight, especially on the Elton John song. She has to turn that into a 2013 track or it will just be bad. Whoever gave her that song is trying to screw her. I love and listen to Elton John and I’m only 18, but the majority of the young folks who still watch the show will not like this song because it doesn’t sound like anything on the radio today and it’s too old-fashioned. I hate that Angie got this song, but she may end up surprising us all and do so well on it that she ends up getting a standing ovation (well…not like standing o’s from those judges-except for Mariah, maybe-would matter). Go Angela Miller!

    • syb says:

It’s all too forced–the vocals, the mood she tries to set, the personality she’s trying to get me to see, the song choices that seem like chess moves rather than something meaningful to her (with a few exceptions like the Jobe song), the wardrobe. I’m sure she’s probably a very nice person, but she makes me uncomfortable.

While I think she has a fine voice for the most part, she tends to get whiny and into a really unpleasant tone when she goes for the long high notes–same thing Hollie did at her worst.

I’d be happy enough with either of the other two winning although I really want Candice to pull it out–giving us the best singer as winner, for the first time in many many years.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that those who pushed Kris Allen ahead of Adam will do the same for Ms. Miller regardless of her competition on finale night.

      • AlyB says:

All anyone can do is vote like mad for Candice and hope we can make it happen for her. I’m not quite yet convinced an Angie win is inevitable. The only way it becomes inevitable is if everyone just gives up and doesn’t vote. Personally, I have to at least try. Candice deserves the effort after some of the magic she’s given us this season.

        • candicegloverfan says:

i totally agree. i vote like mad for candice the entire voting window each week, and i’ll do the same come wednesday night. and i’m really hoping that some of amber’s fans throw votes to candice. i’ve been blown away by most of her performances, but ‘love song’ and ‘you’ve changed’ reached me on such a deep level – first time i’ve rewatched idol performances multiple times after the episode airing. candice is really special so i’m rooting for her big-time!

          • syb says:

Yeah cgfan, I find my attention drifting while watching some other TV show, and I rewind Lovesong, I Who Have Nothing and You’ve Changed and just watch them over and over. It’s silly, but I can’t get enough.

I’ll vote as much as I can for sure, but I’ve seen this movie before, too many times unfortunately.

    • marie says:

Me too. She is talented, she can certainly sing, and she does absolutely nothing for me. She leaves me totally cold.

      • darcy's evil twin says:

I feel the same way, marie, although I have liked some of Angie’s performances. I liked “Diamonds”, for example.

        • marie says:

And I enjoyed her original song, plus as I recall one other but I don’t remember which (it was the song where the white dove was flying overhead).

    • Joe says:

Angie belts everything. That’s her style. It’s very Broadway/Miss America. You get contestnats like her on every season of Idol. There’s nothing inherently unique about what she’s doing up there. Candice, however, is a singing phenom. There should be no competition between the two, but after they milk everything they can about Angie returning to Boston this week, this thing is over. The only hope, for me, is that Candice moves on and gets to embarrass America by shredding the 2013 AI winner in the finale show. Angie may get the crown, sash, tiara and bouquet of roses from her parents, but everyone watching will know who really deserved it. Candice is one of the best talents to ever be on this show and I expect we’re going to hear a lot from her post Idol.

      • Jasmine says:

Angie does not belt everything. She shows restraint and control. Candice goes overboard with all those runs, even though she is a good singer. It’s not all about runs though. I want Angie and Kree in the finale, just because I feel like Angie has a better chance of beating Kree, more so than Candice. That shows you that Candice is competition. Angela has to bring it tomorrow night. I CAN’T WAIT!

  11. Mika02 says:

ok I agree with everything you said. Confession time I do not want Candice Glover why because the winners are never marketed they way they are supposed to. I want her to be able to do her own thing. i would never buy an Angie album but I would buy a Candice or Kree album I wish it could be those two in the Finally but if it’s not I am actually ok with it.

    • AlyB says:

The problem is that Interscope has the right of 1st refusal on all of them. So they can sign Candice, produce something cheap with her and barely market it. She’s not free if they want to sign her and Jimmy has indicated that he does. The thing about winning Idol is the mighty promotional machine that comes along with the win. You don’t think you’re hearing Phillip’s songs all over by accident do you? The win counts for a lot besides just the record deal.

      • MB says:

Has anybody heard that Phillip had to cancel the rest of his Spring concerts because he has taken ill again. He has pushed himself beyond the limit since he won Idol. The only time off he has had was a couple of weeks around the holidays. It is a grueling schedule and lots of hard work. His success is not only because of winning idol but his ability to fill arenas. I hope whoever wins this year knows what is in front of them. It is not for the weak hearted. I hope Phillip bounces back quickly. He has a summer tour with John Mayer that do far is still on. The question is if he will be able to perform at the idol finale.

        • HitTheGroundRunning says:

sorry to hear that. I’m amazed he even made it through last season. I mean it’s hard in perfect health.

        • AlyB says:

I hope you don’t think I was in any way belittling Phillip and the work that goes into turning the opportunity into success. Yes he’s been working extremely hard. I heard it’s the kidney issues that have plagued him for a long time that are causing him problems again and I feel just terrible for him. I hope he gets better really soon. I just wanted to point out that the Idol win comes with opportunities beyond the recording contract. Those are opportunities the non winners will not get even if they get signed by Interscope. The life of a musician is a tough grind under the best of circumstances. Winning Idol gives you a jump start that really does matter. The winner still has a lot of work to do.

          • MB says:

Absolutely. I was not discounting what you were saying. Winning Idol is a jump start but what you do with the opportunities is the key. That’s why some make it and some don’t. I just hope for Phillip’s sake that all his hard work is not for naught and this set back does not hold him back. He always knew that he had to strike when the iron was hot but it has cost him his health. His fans love him and will stand behind him but his momentum has been stumped. I pray that just a little rest will bounce him back quickly and too much damage has been done. One of the things I heard was kidney failure and that frightened me.

          • MB says:

That is. Too much damage has NOT been done.

        • My Alter Ego says:

Poor kid — I’ve known a couple of people who have chronic bouts with kidney stones. Sounds like P2 might be one of them, although he did seem to have almost a year free of the problem (maybe not — maybe we’re just hearing of it now). Must be miserable to have to stand up in front of people and perform as though you’re having a great time — and make others enjoy you — when in that kind of excruciating pain.
          **
I’m not a fan of what P2 calls “his music”, but I wouldn’t wish that kind of pain on anyone. I hope he can get this taken care of quickly.

        • karenb says:

So sorry to hear about Phillips health problems. I did see him in concert the end of March. He seemed to be ok then. Side note -the show really rocked. I was not expecting that! Good show.

        • Joe says:

Um, he doesn’t fill arenas. He opens for Matchbox 20 and they can’t even fill arenas any longer. Let’s calm the hyperbole down. He opened for them in some NYC dates and they couldn’t sell out the shows and they played theaters, some with only 1800 seats.

          • Mel says:

  12. tuppy says:

You didn’t give Harry Connick Jr. a hard enough time for his really obnoxious mentoring. Yes, he’s right that standards are often best served by fidelity to melody, and of course helping young and unpracticed singers get in tune with the meaning of song lyrics is great, but could he have possibly done it in a more condescending and insistent way?

He harped on the runs AFTER the performances had already happened, as if he’d been personally affronted by the fact that the songs weren’t performed exactly as he advised. And with Amber he could have been a lot more sensitive and understanding rather than using an embarrassing Socratic method (what does Greek mean? what does unphotographable mean?) — it’s a 76-year-old song that would be challenging for a college student to close read, let alone a girl from Houston who’s just out of high school.

Though he clearly thinks he’s charming, his schtick with Angie was cloying. Sincerely hoping the rumors of them pursuing as a judge are false.

    • 2young2Bwise says:

You never know how much more useful information was actually said at a mentoring session. In past seasons, it seems that Harry Connick Jr. spent more time with the contestants than any other mentor. He even accompanied all the contestants on piano a couple of seasons ago. I would guess they had at least an hour’s worth of footage on each contestant and then the producers cut it down to 2 minutes. The producers show only what they want you to see, not all that really happened. Editing can make anything seem as good or bad as the producers dictate.

    • Tom22 says:

It was the edits that were bad. I’m sure they could have spent 3 minutes each having him teaching and them “getting ” it like they usually do… they probably have 30 to 40 minutes of film with each contestant. What he was teaching was all logical parts of private dialogues.

    • Cheryl says:

Oh, boo-hoo…I think it was about time that Amber was challenged and Harry was the perfect guy to do it. She has been coddled by the judges way too long and needed a healthy dose of reality. It’s a tough world out there especially in the music industry and Amber just needs to toughen up and stop making excuses.

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

        1. She didn’t make any excuses.
        .
        2. Just because it s a hard rough world doesn’t make it easy and this contestants are new to it all. It’s easy to say just be all whatever when you are typing form your coach and perhaps less easy if you are the out there before millions. Maybe you’d navigate it with ease or maybe, unlike any top few idol so far, you’d be the first train wreck and go to pieces.

        • Cheryl says:

Not true…all I heard was excuses from the judges that night. “Poor Amber just didn’t have time to learn the lyrics to her song.” When I watch Candace and how she performs, I can’t believe they are sharing the same stage. Having said that, they were pretty hard on Amber…at least that’s the way the edit went. But it’s not gonna get easier either and the sooner she and everyone else realizes it, the better.

          • no dawg says:

When Lazaro said he had no time to learn the songs, it was seen as a poor excuse. Yet the judges give the same excuse for Amber, who had to learn only one song since she was repeating My Funny Valentine. There’s no consistency in the judging.

          • AlyB says:

@no dawg Amber had the lyrics down pat for the Pink song by the time she did the song on performance night. She did use the fact that she was struggling with the lyrics to excuse herself for maybe not completely connecting w/the song and giving it the energy it needed. She did get all the lyrics right though. That’s more than Lazaro was able to manage. A lot of them over the years flub a few lyrics the day they’re in rehearsal with the mentors. They just need some extra time to get it all down pat for the show and nearly everybody does. Amber did, just not well enough that it all just came out and she could concentrate on her delivery. Correect me if I’m wrong but the only other person I remember flubbing lyrics during a performance besides Lazaro this season was Angie on Shop Around. She lost it about half way through but got it back together and was able to fake her way through.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

I said that SHE didn’t make any excuses.

    • ben says:

I agree Tuppy. Harry did have reasonably good advice, but the whole package was awful. Why were they getting him up during the actual live show. Kree was entitled to ignore his advice and frankly I think she did a phenomenal job on Sotrmy Weather, one of her best performances all season – for once I liked the fact that Kree DID do something with the song.

I like Harry and I liked his mentoring appearances in the past but I felt Idol handled him obnoxiously this season. Actually I think the big problem with Idol this year, and one of the key reasons for it’s falling ratings, is that it has been too in your face and obnoxious all season long. Obnoxious is what I don’t like about Idol’s competitors, and I’d prefer Idol remain reasonably laid back about its approach toa dvising contestants.

    • Nan says:

I didn’t like Harry either. He just seemed grumpy to me except with Angie. I don’t believe Candice needed any help from him with her interpretations. She’s been great at that all season. Working with him actually seemed to have hurt Amber and Kree. I

    • Carol Barnett says:

If I could “like” this comment, I would. I can’t believe that no one else has commented on how rude, egotistical and bullying Connick was in dealing with both the contestants and the judges. The fact that everyone is focusing on how “right” he supposedly was about the music, and not on his boorish behavior, shows me how far our standards of civility have fallen. Yes, I expect civility even on “Idol.”

So, No, Nicki, don’t comment on Candice’s weight.

  13. MB says:

Finally, I’ve been waiting and checking for Idology. I agree with all you and Melinda said Michael. I am routing for a Angie/Candice Finale. I do love Kree and think she has a gorgeous voice but I find her performances sleepy. I don’t see the fire in her that I do with the other two. As far as twitter followers I think you are putting too much stock in that. Last year Jessica had by far the most followers over anyone though Phillip won. Colton also has lots of followers and he went out. 7th. Anything can happen and they all have to bring it to win. I love Angie, she has been my favorite all season but unless she gives a great performance Wednesday night she can go home. It’s all just too lose no matter how many. Twitter followers any of the have.

    • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Yeah going by Twitter is dangerous. Carly Rose had ten billion twitter/youtube/itunes followers and was from the North and lost despite quite an amazing finale. Tate has barely any the twitter/youtube/itune stuff going on and was from the South and had an average finale and won.
      .
There have been weeks that Candice was ahead of Angie or Kree. There have been weeks Kree was ahead of Candice or Angie. There have have been weeks when Angie was ahead of Candice or Kree. (in the voting) But Angie is situated a touch better, but it could go any way and pairing might make the finale.

    • tewence says:

i actually think there is more of a viable niche for angie over candice/kree post idol. don’t get me wrong, i love all three of the girls, i really do. i wish they could all win because they all have something that is unique and their technical abilities can’t be touched (*ahem* phillip *ahem*). i almost don’t want angie or candice to win because i think that if they did, their first album would be rushed and full of stuff that isn’t authentic to them as artists. they have a better chance of having a solid career if they are given some freedom in the direction their music goes. i feel the same way for kree, but i also feel that with her style, it’s easier to select pre-written songs that fit into it.

  14. Jade says:

Angie acts like she’s had this thing in the bag since day one. She seems to be an insincere robot. Me no-likey.

    • ejones says:

Unfortunately, she has had it in the bag from before day 1.

      • ben says:

I’m pretty sure she did not have it in the bag before day 1. Before day 1, there was no determination that she would be included in any kind of top 40, and (as with Candice last year) trust me when I say that determining that someone like Angie gets to be put in front of America is never in the bag.

      • Bev says:

        WooooHoooo Go Angie!

    • Jasmine says:

No she has not acted like that! That girl is nothing but humble. I honestly don’t get why people don’t see that. It is not her fault that people went nuts over her original song You Set Me Free. She just sang a song expressing her love for God and she wanted to show her love for him to the world. But now, her haters have turned this into something so negative and hateful. Angela Miller is not conceited. She’s not self-righteous. She doesn’t think that she has it in the bag. The girl is talented. She knows she is, but that doesn’t mean she’s conceited or thinks she’s better than all the other contestants. I mean, if I had no confidence in my abilities, why would I waste my time stressing out, singing for millions of people all the time? That doesn’t make sense at all, does it? Stop hating! I honestly think Angie has the best chance at winning, but Candice is like right there behind her, and I think it could go either way. Kree is number 3. It would be a travesty if she made it over the other two.

  15. Amy says:

    Hey Michael,
I see how you tweeted about an upcoming interview with Amber this week, but what about Janelle? I’ve been looking for that since her exit….I want to see that!

Another good Idology~back to reading comments……..

  16. steve says:

IMO Kree is leading the way in the votes & Candice is the underdog going into the Top 3 performance/results not angie leading the way and kree being the underdog.

But i agee on see you again it was a great performance & probable was my 2nd fav after candice/s youve changed

    • H says:

I agree with this. I don’t know how some people are so sure that Angie is running away with this. I suspect that, Top 5 fluke week aside, Kree is the closest thing to a leader in the votes throughout the competition. For all we know, she may have been #1 after both Top 4 weeks!

      • daynamonet says:

Um i think not. angie is the only one who hasn’t been in the bottom 2 at all, and its top 3; angie could have a mediocre performance tomorrow and still make the finale (not saying she will, but she could b/c her fanbase is so big ppl would vote for her like crazy even if she sang “shop around” again)and if kree is lacking in emotion and fire yet again, she will be going home. Candice will bring it the most and since candice has yet to really have been called first on results night, whether she got more votes than angie it wouldn’t matter, they’ll call her name first to go to finale and it’ll be between angie and kreedom and we know angie got that b/c she has so much hunger and her fanbase is immense, aside from twitter followers. for the record im only following candice.

        • AlyB says:

Don’t forget that the week Lazaro went home, Candice & Kree were top 2. Angie was in the middle with Janelle. Candice and Kree have a shot at this finale. They’re the two I want to see at the end of this thing.

        • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Angie is also from the North. Only one person in Idol history has won from the North and zero from the Northeast. And she has been below the other two at times. It’s not a Scotty-type run away by any means. If her fans are even a touch complacent she could easily be out. 10 out of 11 winners have been from right where Candice/Kree come from. That part of the country, as admitted by Idol, votes by far the hardest especially near the end when they pick up extra viewers.
          .
Really it could be any pair of the three that makes the finale. ANY pair.

    • deedee says:

I’d be quite happy with a Kree win. She’s not the most dynamic performer, but she can fix that with experience. I really appreciate Kree’s natural talent and beautiful tone, even though I’m not much of a country fan.

      • noa says:

+1000. at this point i think Candice DESERVES the win, but Kree had some fantastic performances and she’s a great singer. i think the competition isn’t doing her any favors at this point and she’s probably a great performer “in real life” (just look at Evidence for evidence… she’s better when there’s no pressure). i want the Kree and Candice finale 2, and i’d be happy with whoever wins between the 2.

      • noa says:

and i’m also not a country fan, but she’s not pure country and her beautiful voice makes me listen beyond the specific song.

so in conclusion, i think we both want Candice to win and Kree in 2nd place Deedee, no?

        • deedee says:

Yes, Candice is probably the better singer, but honestly, I can make a case for either of them to win. Both have the talent and ability to be successful in their genres, but I think Kree has the slight edge as a crossover artist (if that’s important). This may be the first time ever that I don’t have one obvious preference.

  17. Nu says:

Agree with your comments but I think most Twitter followers aren’t Americans so she isn’t that safe yet :/

  18. HEP. says:

IF this season is about talent, then Kree and Candice deserve to be in the finals,Angie on the other hand has given the two worst performances this year,”Diamonds” was the second one…IF Angie wins she will be a disaster,a female Lee…cute and big hair does not make you a pop star….nice girl with some talent but she is a bland watered down “Amy Grant” that does not measure up to Kree or Candice…HAVE not voted all year but will vote this week for both Kree and Candice because TALENT really does matter, not twitter…by the way there is a fine line between being a mentor and bulling and Harry crossed that line…will not watch this show if he is allowed on again…

    • WishesRandyCouldn'tSpeak says:

There is so much wrong in this paragraph I can’t even comment further.

    • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Come on the two worst performances of the year by anyone??? Seriously?

    • Jasmine says:

seriously? You’re an idiot. please stop posting. How is Diamonds one of Angela’s worst performances. What?! Are you just strictly basing that off of what the judges said? That performance was spectacular. Actually, Angie has never really had a horrible performance. Shop Around was her weakest, but even that performance wasn’t horrible. Don’t compare Angela to Lee DeWyze. they’re in different leagues. Kree is the one who’s watered down, she has no personality. That girl is so boring! Candice is great, though!

      • Temperance says:

Yeah, don’t compare. Lee was vastly superior.

        • Jasmine says:

Really?! Lee? Superior to Angela? I don’t think so. One of the most ridiculous statements. You are such a hater…such a shame.

          • Bessie says:

guess that makes me a hater too cuz I would pay to buy Lee’s music and see him in concert and I definitely can’t say the same about the artist formerly know as Angela. You’re such a big fan that you don’t realize she goes by Angie now, heh?

          • Jasmine says:

I know she goes by Angie. You guys are practically beating me over the head with that fact. Still, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH CALLING HER BY HER BIRTH NAME? Even she would not make this a huge issue like you and other people are making it. That’s irrelevant. What you need to focus on is if I ever call her out of her name. What if I called her Jennifer, Susan, Cheyenne? Then THAT would be a problem, because her name is Angela, not one of those. Seriously, it’s not that big of a deal, let it go. I will call her Angela all I want to. It’s a sin to call Angela Miller ANGELA MILLER? What kind of sense does that make?! You guys need to let this go.

          • Bessie says:

TBH I don’t care what you call her, I was just enjoying watching you spaz out. LOL. Thanks for the laughs, I needed that. Cheers!

          • Jasmine says:

Thanks for clearing that up. That made me laugh. Good one. Although, you haven’t seen me spazzed out. I really don’t think I can ever get super mad, though. That’s just not me. But anyway, you’re hilarious. Angela for the win!

    • tewence says:

so you’re telling me that ALL of lazaro’s performances were better than 2 of angie’s?

  19. Carly says:

I find angie so annoying, she seems so fake and plastic, don’t get me wrong she’s an amazing singer but I just can’t buy into her, she doesn’t seem genuine. I love candice and kree, and agree they all could have benefited from guidance in song selection and such. Before they practically had a different mentor every week helping them, which they have had none of this year.

    • Jasmine says:

Give me some evidence that shows that she’s “fake” and “plastic”, because I don’t see it at all. She might be acting a little, but sometimes you do have to act in a performance. Kree, on the other hand, doesn’t do anything. Angela has a wonderful personality. Could you not see that in her sessions with Harry Connick, Jr.? The girl is great!

      • Angie_Overrated says:

Her performances are fake and plastic. There’s nothing artistic or musical about nearly everything Angie has attempted, with the exception of Halo. It’s like she has studied the crappy stylings that will get 11 year olds to cheer and vote but makes everyone else want to vomit. If you found her interaction with Harry Connick Jr. charming, I don’t know what to say. I’m speechless actually. It was uncharming and weird, but to each his own.

        • Jasmine says:

You still gave no concrete evidence that shows that she’s fake and plastic. Angela is an artist whether you choose to see it or not.. I thought 11 year olds voted for the cute guys? Hmmm… I’m almost 19 and find this girl really fascinating. She can’t hit the highest notes like Candice but she still has quite the voice on her and she knows how to control it. I’m not the only one to find her “interaction with Harry Connick, Jr.” cool. Even Slezak and Doolittle and others have mentioned it. But like you said, to each his own. I have my opinion and you have yours. Go Angela!

          • Angie_Overrated says:

I do have concrete evidence in the form of nearly every single one of her performances. Her musical phrasing sounds like a 2nd year student, not a professional. I remember when I was at the conservatory, in one of my classes we had to listen to examples of phrases to indicate if it was A) appropriately and musically phrased or B) overexaggerated and non-musical. Angie is B. Every time I hear her sing I think about that class and keep saying to myself, “B!” Candice and Kree are A, particularly Candice.

          • Jasmine says:

Okay, whatever! Let’s just say we agree to disagree. Judging by your screename, we all know how you feel about Angie!

  20. Kim R says:

As a viewer, I don’t like the kids singing and staring at the camera as it moves around them. I find that distracting and kind of corny. Sing to the people that are there watching you and when they feel it, you will feel it and then we will feel it. Just my 2 cents. :)

  21. Leela says:

Absolutely don’t understand the praise for Angie. She is not emotionally connected to the material, the piano is now a crutch, she ogles the camera, her pitch is often questionable (she’s best when belting), and shows no ability to successfully change up a song. Candice and Kree deserve the finale spots for their talent and artistry. And Idol being Idol one of them will be cheated so that the “hot & marketable” girl goes through.

    • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Yeah because writing your own single requires no talent at all…..
She belongs to be there, more than one of the others, if anything.
      .
      At this moment- Candice/Angie finale.

      • WishesRandyCouldn'tSpeak says:

Exactly. What I don’t get is how people don’t feel Angie’s songs…like what? I get the feeling from her the most! “Who you are”, the colton dixon song, halo, i surrender, i can go on and on and on.

And her camera closeups, my god they get to me every single damn time. Girl knows how to work a camera, it’s worked on me the whole season haha!

      • My Alter Ego says:

HTGR — Angie’s written “a” song. Thus far, that is what is known — we don’t know that it will be a “single.” Perhaps, she’s written more. But I don’t know that (perhaps that’s one of the problems with not actually watching the show and relying on recaps and other comments — I don’t always get the complete picture). Let’s remember, just last week, part of the theme was “one hit wonders.” And we don’t know if “Angie’s song” will be a hit.

I had a lot of years of musical training, and I’m usually the first one to point to those who have had training (people like Itzak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Yo Yo Ma, to name a very small few) as models.
        **
But with Angie, for the very first time, I understand why those lacking music training can be dismayed by those who have been the recipients regarding the “performer never connects.” Angie is certainly trying to connect — but is completely clueless in how to make it anything but highly affectatious.
        **
She’s not without talent, but it’s not an innate talent such as Candice and Kree have. A Kree/Candice finale would be such a major step forward for AI.
        **
I’m not counting on it, however.

        • HitTheGroundRunning says:

I didn’t quite catch what you were trying to say with that part quoted above.

        • HitTheGroundRunning says:

As for the song, even if it were to be just one, that song really hit people hard in a way that most could only dream of doing. It’s not that minor of a thing. And what have the other two written? Not that they have to have, but it’s gets tiresome that Angie gets tossed off for this that and every other thing and can’t get credit for anything positive too, while it’s fine to credit Candice or Kree for every little thing. Like what so Angie looks cute and vaguely like Miley so she is a shallow lightweight in all musical regards? (not to take anything away from Candice she deserves lots of praise)

        • Angie_Overrated says:

YES! A voice of sanity. I myself am a classical musician as well, and I have the same exact gripe with Angie. There’s no soul to her. It’s such a crusty veneer with no substance underneath. Maybe the substance can eventually be developed, but the finale is in two weeks. :) Is she “terrible”? No, not at all. But should she beat Candice, Kree, Amber, Burnell, Curtis, Devon, etc.? No way.
And I’m really tired of hearing about how talented she is because she wrote a song. Man oh man. I’m not even that good at music theory or composition and I can write a song better than that in 10 minutes.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Yeah right. Let me see go right a pop hit. If it was so easy, everyone person who took a music theory class would be a millionaire.
            .
And come on with that list of like the entire other top 9 better than her gimme a break.
            .
And for the record I was raised on classical music too and still go to Carnegie Hall, etc. and have performed in bands and orchestras.

        • tewence says:

why are we comparing a vocalist to string players?

          • Angie_Overrated says:

Sweetie, you mentioned you go to Carnegie Hall. Guess what. I perform in Carnegie Hall. I know what I’m talking about with music. And I stand by my earlier statement that writing a song like hers would take any highly trained musician about 10 minutes. That’s a no brainer.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Do it then. And come back and point out to us your top 40 hit. If you pull it off, more power to you, but I don’t expect to be seeing it charting any time soon.

          • tewence says:

easy there, killer. i have never been to carnegie hall or mentioned anything about it. and i couldn’t care less that you perform there. i’d also like to mention that you don’t know how long it took her to write that song. so take your snobbery and over-inflated ego elsewhere.

          • tewence says:

also, i’m not your sweetie. check yourself.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Towards the end of the violin solo in Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61 it’s not THAT complex but utterly hauntingly beautiful. And there are some really powerful pop standards and other songs that are even far simpler still and still deeply moving.

          • Angie_Overrated says:

Wasn’t responding to you tewence. My comment was directed to HitTheGroundRunning. Sweetie, I never claimed I could write a top 40 hit, nor do I ever care to do so. But if you are delusional enough to think that Angie’s original song was top 40 material, you are sadly mistaken. That had the musical complexity of Three Blind Mice.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Well my dear, it’s not necessarily about the complexity it’s about the catch isn’t it now? Her song had some catch. And that ain’t quite as easy to pull off as you make it sound that someone deserves zero credit for pulling it off. Even for classical it’s about a lot more than complexity, my dearest snookums. People have made some pretty empty, if complex, attempts at it, that frankly don’t have half the pull of a Call Me Maybe.

          • tewence says:

still not my sweetie. my comment still stands, even if on the behalf of HTGR. also, i pity you and all your knowledge of music and experience if you truly think that a song has to be complex to be good. sometimes the simplest of melodies or compositions can be the most moving…from the way you talk about yourself, i would think that you’d know that.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

I”m talking about he violin solo that is around somewhere in the 21-23 or so minute mark.

      • paul burnett says:

totally agree I will by angies cd if she gets to do one

        • Jasmine says:

I will buy Angela’s CD as well! People really need to keep supporting her after the show’s over. That shows you who her true fans are. I’m not a Twitter follower. In fact, I don’t even use Twitter, but I am a huge fan of Angela’s.

          • marie says:

If you’re such a huge fan, then why don’t you call her by the name she has picked after being called “Angela” on the very first shows, i.e., Angie. She seems to have abandoned “Angela.”

          • Jasmine says:

I just personally like the name Angela better. She wants people to call her Angie. That is super a-okay. Oh, so she legally changed her name to Angie now? There is nothing wrong with calling her Angela. I’m sure she won’t make it as big of a deal as you’re making it Marie. Calling her Angela does not make me any less of a fan. You’re making it out to be like saying Angela is a sin or something. That’s so nit-picky.

    • Jasmine says:

Well, the judges are the ones pushing that piano thing. They always want her to be at the piano. She tries to do something different and the judges are like “no, go back to the piano” So you really can’t blame her. She’s trying to please everyone, which is hard. But I think Angela’s doing a great job and I hope she can get better. She doesn’t ogle the camera. I think she looks gorgeous when close-ups of her face are shown. To me, she’s always on pitch, it’s just that some parts of her vocal performances sound shaky. I thought her creative rendition of Diamonds was spectacular even thought the judges did not. But honestly, the judges are not America and their opinions don’t really matter anyway. That was a beautiful arrangement of that song and I don’t care what anybody says. Kree deserves nothing. She hasn’t shown that she wants it more than Angela. Kree is boring. Her song choices are horrible! She just has no stage presence. Candice is great, but Angela’s my favorite, so I know it’s horrible to say this considering that I do genuinely like Candice, but I hope she does bad. Angela has to win! I just hope she was give 3 fantastic songs to sing this week! I don’t think she’s the clear winner. I want her to win, but not without a fight!

      • daynamonet says:

this is what i don’t like about about die hard angie fans. Ya’ll wish bad on other contestants so that your “fav” can win. That’s not right. My fav is in fact Candice and has been all season, but i know how to praise my fav w/o totaling dogging someone else who i also feel is talented. uggh these angie fans really have issues with even saying one nice thing about any other contestant.

        • Jasmine says:

Really?! really? You haven’t dogged any other contestants before EVER! I find that hard to believe. But I really find calling Kree boring not “dogging” at all or whatever you said. She’s boring. (Gasps) That’s hardly a shocker. She has no stage presence. That’s not shocking. And I did say some nice things about other contestants. I’ve said time and time again that Candice is great. You just block all that out though and focus on what Angela fans say about Angela. ONE thing is clear: Every single one of these contestants have die-hard fans, and we (the fans) all say stupid stuff about the contestants we don’t like. That should come as no surprise to you.

          • daynamonet says:

Ok ok. They only person i don’t really have many good things to say about is lazaro, but i don’t post it. I agree that Kree can sometimes come across as boring, however, her voice is amazing and very pleasing to the ear, and candice is just a beast. I actually like Angie, i like her hunger and her drive and her original song was one of my favs, but i just think that die hard angie fans have a little bit of tunnel vision when it comes to the other contestants. And i was specifically talking about when u said u hope Candice does bad, like even though i want candice to win i wouldn’t say that about angie or kree that i want them to do badly.

        • Jasmine says:

And also, Kree has been criticized time and time again for picking the wrong songs! Obviously, I’m not the only one who thinks that she has horrible song choices!

        • MB says:

That is totally untrue. I am an Angie fan and I have not put down Candice or Kree. On this blog I notice it seems that in order to make their favorite look good they have to be little the other contestants. It is so childish. I like both Candice and Kree. I think Candice is unbelievable but I am not as fond as her type of music. Kree is country and it also is not my favorite also her performances though beautiful tend to be sleepy. Angie’s music is more in my wheelhouse. Everyone has different taste and that is why different strokes for different folks. They are all talented and all deserve the win. It is just what you prefer. It is not just Angie fans putting the others down but also Candice and Kree fans doing the same and frankly Angie has been ripped apart the most. Maybe because she is the biggest treat to their favorite.

        • HitTheGroundRunning says:

I don’t think you could be more wrong. I see most of the other fans dumping all over Angie, half the time for stuff not even having to do with her vocals or performances. I’m hardly dumping all over Candice! There is that one troll of an Angie fan, but that is one guy.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Kree has gotten a little boring lately IMO, but she’s had some very solid performances and has a strong voice. If she stays far away from her country twang side I might even be more prone to get her stuff than from Candice. I think Candice has been bringing it more though.

      • Nan says:

The last part of your post doesn’t make sense. If you want Angie to really earn the win, you can’t hope for the other singers to do badly. If Candice stumbles, then people will say that Angie only won by default. I enjoy both girls and hope they both have great performances from here on out. Then it will be a true victory for whoever wins.

        • Jasmine says:

Well, I didn’t mean “bad” per say. I just don’t want the judges to over-praise her and give her standing ovations like she’s the best singer alive. I don’t really think that Candice can do bad, so might’ve said that wrong, but I just want Angela to do better. I can see how what I said doesn’t make sense. Thanks for clarifying.

          • AlyB says:

You meant exactly what you said and your true colors came through. As much as I find Angie irritating, I don’t wish for her to do badly on her performances. But that’s because I believe Candice can beat Angie even if Angie comes with her A game. I hope they all do their best and we have a great show. Candice hasn’t been over praised at all. She’s earned those comments and standing O’s with spectacular performances. You are all over this board sniping at people who are just saying how they feel about Angie yet here you are hoping that the other contestants do badly so your girl can win. Disgusting.

  22. Lyn says:

Candice and Kree have made some crummy song choices along the way, but I honestly don’t understand how anyone could prefer Angie’s singing to theirs. She’s the epitome of a beauty pageant-type talent. “Idol” judges used to sneer at those kinds of performers! Not anymore, I guess.

    • Jasmine says:

I don’t see beauty pageant in her. I just see a really invested performer, one who wants it so bad. This girl has all the potential in the world to be a huge star. Most of the people who have been posting on these Idology blogs are just repeating what others say about Angela. A few comments about her being not genuine or that she looks like she’s in a beauty pageant, you guys were not saying that until others like Slezak and Lyndsey Parker and Matt Whitfield started bringing it up. Now everyone’s saying that she’s only “beauty pageant” material. Please! Angela’s a beast and everyone knows it, whether they want to admit it or not. Even if she doesn’t win, I truly believe she’ll have a good music career. She has reached many hearts, including mine. And I’m forever grateful that Angela Miller auditioned for this show! Don’t hate the girl. She doesn’t deserve any of it at all! She has shown us nothing but good. The way people talk about her is truly sad. I just think most of these Angie haters are jealous. But whatever, she’s made it this far top 3. That shows you she’s a force to be reckoned with and that people DO (in fact) LIKE HER! Go Angie.

      • deedee says:

Most of the people who have been posting on these Idology blogs are just repeating what others say about Angela.
        .
Is this the latest trend … to say that people can’t think for themselves? You like her, Jasmine, she touched your heart, and she moves you – that’s great. But why can’t you accept that she is not universally adored? Why can’t you accept that some folks don’t share your opinion – without resorting to telling them they’re only repeating what some bloggers say; or that they’re just not admitting to themselves how crazy-awesome she is; or the ever-popular, “anyone who doesn’t like her is a jealous hater”. It makes no sense.

        • Jasmine says:

Why can’t you accept the fact the millions of people DO like her? Instead, you just keep going on and on about how fake and plastic and not genuine she is. Saying all that is getting you nowhere. It’s just really making me feel like you’re just jealous. I do accept the fact that some people don’t like her, but, come on, debasing her and just saying dull crap about her is just not right! You make no sense. YOU have to accept that Angela is popular. I know that she’s the love-hate type of girl, but honestly, she’s never given us any reason for anyone to spew out all this crap about her, and what, all because she looks at the camera too much, all because she’s “acting”, all because she’s “too dramatic?” Please!

          • deedee says:

I do accept the fact that millions of people like her. In fact, I have been saying that she’s a lock for the win since nearly the beginning of the competition. Why? Because despite the fact that her particular brand of artistry leaves me cold and often irritated, I recognize that she happens to be wildly popular.
            .
And as long as she remains in the competition, cranking out performances that are on the table to be critiqued by anyone watching the show, I will continue to go “on and on” about how much I dislike her interpretation of songs. It may be “getting me nowhere”, but I’m not actually trying to go anywhere. I am simply stating my feelings on the people left in the competition — of which Angie is one. If you disagree with my take on Angie, then disagree. But it’s highly annoying to be continually called delusional, or jealous, or hate-mongering just because I don’t share your love for your special snowflake. Really.

          • Jasmine says:

Well, stop saying senseless stuff and you won’t be called delusional! I admit, I am delusional, but I’m not ashamed. I love Angela Miller! I still think you’re a hater, though. But way whatever you want. Reiterate it a thousands times over if you want to. I’ll keep saying Angela’s great and you’ll just keep debasing her, that’s fine! What’s up with the snow-flake comment? Does that mean something? Go Angela Miller!

        • marie says:

Oh deedee, don’t bother. I totally understand and support what you’ve said here, and happen to share your opinions re Angie, but evidently you’re talking to a wall. There will always be some people who, if you disagree with them, will lash back and brand you with that tiresome and dreary “hater” label because they truly lack the imagination – or simple human understanding – to comprehend it any other way.

          • Jasmine says:

Look at you trying to sound intelligent. A commendable job by the way. I know you mean people like me so just come out and say it. Don’t beat around the bush. Yeah, I have no imagination! Please!

          • deedee says:

Oh, I know, Marie. Thanks for the dose of sanity. Sometimes, when I read too many such comments in a row, it really, really gets under my skin and I just HAVE to say something. Sure, it’s useless treadmill-spinning, but it feels SO good to let it out and then hit “post”, lol. And then I can reset the “b.s.-tolerance-O-meter” back to zero and start again :) .

          • Jasmine says:

Just like the dozens of hateful comments on here gets under MY skin, and I just have to say something as well. That’s one thing we have in common. But seriously, we all have our opinions, and though it may not seem like it, I do respect yours even though I don’t agree with it. But I will still keep praising Angela just as you will keep praising whomever you like that’s left on the show.

          • deedee says:

Jasmine, Marie sounds intelligent because she is intelligent.

          • Jasmine says:

I was being sarcastic. I’m intelligent as well, though you guys might not want to believe it. I know Marie is intelligent. I’m just fuming, like you do sometimes. We’re all human. Go ANGELA! No, wait- it’s Angie. Go ANGIE!

        • HitTheGroundRunning says:

You do have to admit though that it seems like half the people posting against her talk about her style, her personality, her looks, her eyes into the camera, she’s too Christian, she’s too happy/smiley and so on and never even get to her voice. It’s fine if she rubs you the wrong way but what does that have to do with her vocals. Some even say that I might not even mind her vocals but I just can’t past that she looks like Miley or I don’t like her church, etc.
          .
Of course some don’t like her artistry or vocals either and that’s not hating on her but why do the others get defended if anyone mentions anything other than vocals, everyone hates the total package talk and all but then some turn around and do the same thing to Angie.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Maybe that doesn’t apply to you so much, but you have to see it applies to some.

    • Temperance says:

Angie might end up an A-grade Christian artist, but on the real charts? Nope.

      • tewence says:

then i guess we’d have to congratulate her, right? that would leave her more successful than some previous winners. and do you mean to infer that being an “A-grade Christian artist” would put her on an imaginary chart? ;)

      • Jasmine says:

How is the crap the majority of these artist put out today, the “real charts”? I’m assuming you mean the mainstream charts, right? Justin Beiber, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, just to name a few. That music is all crap with no substance, no real meaning. At least Angela, a Christian artist, sings about things that makes sense and has substance. Seriously, Temperance, the things you’re saying are just boggling my mind right now! The majority of mainstream music is CRAP! If you want to hear some real music, listen to Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette, Regina Spektor, Joss Stone, Glen Hansard, Matchbox Twenty, Anberlin. These are artists that should be flooding the “real charts,” not Nicki’s Superbass or all of Justin Beiber’s music!

  23. jj says:

While I agree with Michael that Harry seemed a bit too doctrinaire in his mentoring, Melinda obviously didn’t agree and I wish we could’ve heard more of what she had to say about it… give Melinda her voice, Michael!
My theory on the lack of mentoring is that they are working with a much reduced budget this year (probably because they’ve blown it all on la Carey and la Minaj) – too bad, because Jimmy’s obviously not giving them much. I also don’t remember seeing any footage of the ‘fabulous Idol mansion’ that’s been featured in years past – more evidence of cost-cutting?

    • AlyB says:

I was wondering the same thing. Reduced ad revenues because of lower ratings (they can’t charge as much per spot) plus the huge $’s that I’m sure each of the 4 judges commanded probably left them with budget cuts that had to come from somewhere. I think we’re seeing it in the absence of the mentors and the retread music. I wonder if it has occurred to them that if they cut judges budgets by getting rid of the big names and maybe bringing back some old Idols then actually invested in expanded music rights so they could have wider song selection, revenues might actually go up again from people actually coming back to watch.

      • My Alter Ego says:

AlyB, it’s interesting how they avoid certain past alum (Adam, of course, comes to mind) and keep going for “big names” that, this year, have ultimately created an unfortunate, abysmal situation. Nicki’s “brutal honesty” is far too often wrapped up in her shallowness. And Mariah, who really has an ear, and should be the one providing real constructive criticism to the remaining ladies (and off camera, perhaps, is) doesn’t know what to say when the camera is on her.
        **
It’s sad, because it sort of affects the contestants this year. And they shouldn’t have to pay that price.

  24. Sarah H. says:

I love how they call Amber and Candice the “church girls” when both of Angie’s parents are pastors and run a church in Salem…

    • AlyB says:

LOL I know! Candice and Amber don’t sing anything remotely like Gospel in song choice or singing style so idk where Randy was coming from with that comment. On the other hand Angie looks like she wants to do the faith inspired Christian pop thing. Honestly, if you read her twitter feed it looks like all someone has to do to get her to RT you is to say something about her singing for Jesus. It really is such a niche market though I wonder if they’ll push her to do something less religious oriented if she wins.

      • Temperance says:

If she wants to do the Christian thing, the producers won’t let her win. That’s a fact – they’re looking for someone to make them money.

  25. jeffmartinfan93 says:

I think Amber cried because she saw her father crying, not because she was thinking about votes or because “she gave up on herself”. Also I hope Angie is not unbeatable.

    • AlyB says:

I think maybe she was humiliated that Harry essentially made her out to be stupid in that package right before she sang.

  26. Bobby says:

Love Angie. I think she’s a clear favorite over the other 2

I enjoyed Diamonds a lot. It’s one of my Top 5 performances Angie has done. The first minute was better then the 2nd minute so it could’ve been better, but I’ve watched it a lot so far

I like that Angie looks into the camera. It means she wants to connect with America & draw in the audience. It comes across as genuine to me because I appreciate that she takes the time to pay attention to the audience during the song

I also love that Angie is so easy to understand. I get every word she’s saying during her performances. So many artists it’s hard to keep up with them & follow what their saying. I hear every lyric that Angie sings when she’s performing. That’s very important to me

I want Angie to win & think she will win

    • Jasmine says:

Yes, Bobby! I agree with you 100%. I truly hope she wins. But if she doesn’t, it’s not the end. If I can sit through Haley Reinhart being eliminated, if I can sit through Elise Testone being eliminated, then I get can get through Angie possibly being eliminated even though it will make me so sad. But I can’t worry about Angie. She’ll do great after this show!

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

The Haley and Elise eliminations really drove me mad. Especially with one being utterly far and away the best in her season and then getting bused by more fleets of greyhounds than were even thought to exist in the known universe.

It’s nice to know that we both like Haley and Elise. They were awesome on their seasons. I just thought they were fantastic. I wish Elise could’ve gotten as far as Haley did but she still kind of had that survivor quality because she was in the bottom alot and still was able to push through a couple of times. Love that woman! Just…(sighs)…her personality was awesome, her voice was bonkers, she was the whole package to me. It’s such a shame that these teenyboppers who only vote for cute boys couldn’t see that in Elise. Same for Haley. I couldn’t have said enough good things about her during her season. And I was super happy that Slezak was like in love with that chick! She was the REAL winner of Season 10. so was Elise of Season 11! I just hope Angela pulls a win! Even though she hasn’t seen that Greyhound Bus, I want her to win! I love everything about her.

  27. WishesRandyCouldn'tSpeak says:

Common guys, it’s been pretty clear that Angie was gonna win since hollywood week.

I remember they would show her singing in the group number while Janelle was the mainly featured singer in the same number and then I’d be like ‘hmm this girl is good who is she again?’ and then for her original, it’s like she knew that’s what people were saying and came out with an “Ohh you may not know me atm, but watch me do this and ya won’t forget me ;) ” kinda thing hahah – from then on, it was like BAM this girls got it.

Twitter followers don’t necessarily mean most votes yeah, but I think Angie has a legit solid fan base that’s gna guarantee her that 1st prize victory.

I think she is what Idol needs…nobody else can be as successful as she can possibly be. This was her season to win, hands down.

  28. whosays says:

Diamonds about a “new age crystal romance”?
Ummmm… How about “new age crystal Meth?”
Like “We found love in a hopeless place”, and to a lesser extent “Stay”, Rihanna’s songs are about being entranced by the spell of love while under a drug-induced stupor.

  29. Name That Tune says:

Like Melinda; I’ve followed the numbers on Twitter since the Top 20. Angie has had the most followers all season but I don’t think she’s a lock to win. Many weeks she hasn’t been in the top 2 when the votes count. It really depends on who TPTB want in the finale. Because it is 3 songs and the contestants don’t get to choose their songs – it’s Jimmy’s choice, judges’ choice, and producers’ choice. My guess is this favors Candice because she can sing anything but it’s going to be interesting to see what they do to Angie and Kree.

    • daynamonet says:

i feel like last season they wanted a josh/phillip finale, b/c jessica was sabotaged in her song choices during top 3 week, however, jessica fans rallied and put her in that finale, so i can’t say that just because TPTB give bad song choices would mean someone gets eliminated, it all depends on how much your fans will rally for u no matter what.

      • Name That Tune says:

However I think the voters this season are paying attention to the performances. A stellar vocal matters. Ask Kree to sing a jazz standard and she will have problems. Ask Angie to go uptempo or do country and she’s in trouble. We’ve seen them sabotage a contestant before.

  30. Vighorois says:

Let’s see who is assigned a song from Happy Feet 2. LOL

  31. Dust says:

That was so uncool during Amber’s moments with Harry it was so NEGATIVE. I couldn’t believe how skewed with negativity her videos were to the other girls. I’m sorry but Harry came across to me as kind of a jerk. Was he just as hard on the other girls? He was practically flirting with Angie. He was oooing and awwwing over Kree.

  32. Danny says:

Due to budget cuts since that hag Nikki Minag ran off 9 million viewers, all Idol hometown trips will be taken via Greyhound rather than a private jet.

  33. TheGirlsRock says:

Congrats Michael. I liked it better when you ignored Angie (and most others) in favor of Candice. Now you see her as a legitimate threat and your using your pulpit and your own form of psychology to try and rally every anti-Angie clone in the known universe judging from these comments.

I’m a fan of both Angie and Candice as the only ones whose performances I actually looked forward to. These accusations of not being sincere or genuine is a bunch of hogwash …. I don’t get that vibe from any of these girls. Let’s face it, we can only make judgements based on what we’re fed from TPTB …. and they aren’t too high on anybody’s credibility list.

I don’t know if Angie will win but there is absolutely no reason she can’t do as well or better than any of the others after Idol. You folks that try to be hurtful by saying you won’t buy her music…. no one cares. I only buy music from a few different artists and guess what… the rest somehow survive without my business.

I think they all have a legitimate shot….may the best girl win.

    • deedee says:

“Let’s face it, we can only make judgements based on what we’re fed from TPTB”

Really. We can’t think for ourselves and make judgments based on what we see and hear with our own senses.

      • TheGirlsRock says:

I’d respond but you pretty much said the same thing. I never said we couldn’t think for ourselves, you added that. We,re only presented one truth by TPTB….it’s like the elephant and the blind men.

        • deedee says:

I honestly don’t understand what you’re saying here. What judgments are we making that are only based on “truths” we’re supposedly fed by TPTB? Clearly, the show tries its best to show us what they want us to see, but that doesn’t mean we’re all a bunch of dimwits who fall hook line and sinker for whatever we’re fed. Amber was touted as the second coming of Whitney/Rhianna/Naomi, and she still fell to the bottom 2 several times this season. Obviously, people are ultimately making up their own minds based on what they perceive, and what their own tastes dictate. Isn’t that how you make up your own mind about who you like?

          • TheGirlsRock says:

I’ll remind you that YOU took exception with something I said. Then…you went about saying pretty much the same stuff in the end. And yes…TPTB depends on a certain number of people buying it hook, line and sinker otherwise they wouldn’t bother.

          • deedee says:

Huh? I took exception to the line ” let’s face it, we can only make judgements based on what we’re fed from TPTB”, and then reinforced that objection because I don’t include myself in your generalization. In fact, I don’t include most people on this blog in your generalization.

    • AlyB says:

You say we can only make judgements based on what is fed to us by TPTB? Sorry, you’ll have to speak for yourself on that. I make my judgements based on what I see for myself in their performances. I agree with you on Candice but couldn’t disagree more about Angie. She’s so earnest and sparkly that even if its not contrived it is just too much.

      • TheGirlsRock says:

You mean the performances and camera angles fed to you by TPTB? At least you gave her the benefit of “if it’s not contrived”. So, you just like Candice better than Angie…that’s cool. ( also see “the elephant and the blind men”).

  34. LeahKittyS says:

In regards to Twitter: I remember last year, Phillip would always, from Top 7 onward, say a warm goodbye to the weekly evictee on Twitter. This year Angie seems to be doing that job. I wonder if this means anything…

    • Name That Tune says:

It just means she’s the frontrunner as Scotty was during Season 10.

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Scotty was never remotely out of the top three ever, nor even the top two, nor even the top one. All three of these girls have been out of the top set at one time or another. It is true that Angie has never been in the bottom two though. But it’s a slim lead (probably but not for sure, she might not have been first this week) not a runaway train by any remote means.

  35. dj says:

I like the repeated insertion of Harry telling Randy to shut up throughout Idology this week. It had a cleansing effect on my ragged idol emotions. I feel almost as worn out as the contestants must be feeling at this point according to Melinda. Thank God this season is almost over.

  36. HitTheGroundRunning says:

The headline for this episode is a little odd since it wasn’t Candice and Kree that were dissed again it was all three who got a diss.

  37. HitTheGroundRunning says:

Also one thing to keep in mind for all the talk about all the kids on twitter in this episode and they have it locked for Angie…. WHAT all those kids watching?? Even Idol themselves got quoted off record stating that by far most viewers left at this point are old southern females and that by far most votes come from the South and southern Midwest.

    • Jasmine says:

Yeah, but 170k or whatever it was that Angie had doesn’t constitute all the people who watch the show, just the younger generation. I do think a lot of teenagers watch the show, just not more so than the middle-aged southern women or whatever. Regardless of the show’s ratings, the girls left are all great and can sing their butts off. It’s sad that people are sort of overlooking them because of all the Mariah-Nicki drama, and the manipulation by the producers of the show. They really did a disservice to this season’s contestants. Despite it’s lower ratings, American Idol is still watched by millions of people, including me. I will never stop watching it. It’s my absolute favorite show of all time. I just love hearing music and the people of the show (Kelly Clarkson, Haley Reinhart, Elise Testone, Angela Miller), they’re just great! Go Angela Miller! Win it for us Dreamers!

      • marie says:

By the way, what color are your pom-poms?

        • Jasmine says:

          Whatever do you mean marie?

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Seemingly that if you like Angie and post about her a lot you are a (supposedly frivolous?) cheerleader. But if you post a lot about liking Candice and Kree you are a regular (enlightened and deep?) poster.
            .
            ??
            .
The way I’d call it is to this point in order of who deserves what I’d probably have to say:
            1. Candice 2. Angie. 3. Kree although I’m sorta more partial to Angie over Candice since I’m not ultra crazy about R&B everything and how even her pop songs have to be redone in full on R&B. I do think there are a few times Angie has flat out beaten Candice although Candice has done the reverse more often. Kree isn’t bad but she never managed to grab me all that often and she seems to have slumped a bit the last few weeks while the other two have been bring their best a lot, but she has done some good work and even beaten the other two here and there on a song. When she stay far from her country roots I’d probably be more likely to buy her stuff than Candice on average.
            .
Partly I’m posting so much about Angie now because it became tiresome for her to never receive credit for anything and for anything said about her to be game be heaven forbid when people say stupid stuff about the other two that has nothing to do with singing and of course they always get full credit for every last little cool artistic thing they do.
            .
(Even on the videos here, even on her best week when even they admitted she did the best overall she still got like a five second mention at the end. She finally got mentioned this week a fair amount and in a fair way but it was a week in which she probabyl did get beaten by Candice….)

          • Jasmine says:

I guess we Angielovers can’t catch a break. I don’t mind being a cheerleader for Angela. That just means I love her enough to say wonderful things about her all the time! I’d like yellow pompoms since yellow’s my favorite color.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

anyway this is getting silly, all three are good and none of the posters in this particular thread are even being trollish or anything anyway, peace

          • marie says:

I don’t mean “frivolous;” I DO mean “over the top” – and fanatic (that word IS the source of “fan,” after all) to the point where it’s almost exhausting to read your posts (and yes, I realize no one is holding a gun to my head to read them, but I’m having too much fun!).
You might have a lot of fun posting at AmericanIdol-dot-com. They have pages for each contestant, and they seen to attract posters closer to your own age – “almost 19,” right? – and who generally share your level of enthusiasm for your favorite. No, I’m not being nasty; I honestly think you’d have a great time there.

          • Jasmine says:

I’m fine right where I am, thank you. I love reading Slezak’s articles and I love reading the comments people post on this site. I like reading your posts as well. I also post a lot over on Lyndsey Parker’s Reality Rocks American Idol blogs, so I’m good. Maybe I am over the top but it’s Angela Miller. But, whatever. I really just can’t wait until tomorrow, I’m just nervous for all the contestants, especially Angela. You must be older? More life experience right?

  38. Tammy says:

Candice should win! Angie is going to be fine whether she wins or not. She will have a career, especially if she wants to do what Colton has done.

    • HitTheGroundRunning says:

She doesn’t though unless it was her only option.
      .
And as I showed with my long set of posts that let it be hated haha mixed in there was that it’s not easy for anyone to make it big with a first album until you make the finale, not one person has so far since a number of seasons back. It’s not like it was the first half decade of Idol.

  39. Davey says:

If Angie wins I don’t think anyone will buy her album. She is one of the most unoriginal and boring singers and personalities to make it to the top three on Idol.

    • Jasmine says:

Well, I would. And I’m sure thousands of other die-hard fans would too.

      • Temperance says:

She’d do fine in the Christian market, but elsewhere? Nope.

        • Jasmine says:

As long as she appeals to someone. Just because she might not appeal to the mainstream music fans, that doesn’t mean she’s any less of an artist. She can still be great. I really don’t want her to be a Christian artist either because I usually don’t listen to that type of music, but I also don’t listen to the crappy, debasing, misogynistic, stuff they have on the radio now either. I will still support Angie, though.

  40. Jasmine says:

I wish Angie would sing a Fleetwood Mac song. Rhiannon? Landslide? Or she could sing that song Roxanne by The Police, but of course do her piano take on the song, a slower version, not a lot of instruments. I really think she could kill it. Ooohhh! I just can’t wait till Wednesday. I’m rooting for my girl ANGIE MILLER! absolutely love her! i so hope she makes it to the finale…then (preferably) WINS!

    • marie says:

I really don’t think the Fleetwood Mac songs you mention would suit Angie, but the Police song? Angie singing a song about a prostitute? HA! Never in a million years.

      • Jasmine says:

It’s all about telling a story! “Roxanne, you don’t have to put on the red light. Those days are over you don’t have to sell your body to the night” The song is warning against prostituting. I don’t really see what’s wrong with her singing a song telling somebody to stop being a prostitute. Any song could suit Angie. She just has to make it her own and do something with the arrangements. I really think she could sing a Fleetwood Mac song. That song Rhiannon is GOLD! You mean to tell me she can’t sing that song and make it hers, make it Angela’s? I think she’s capable. But whatever, they’re not going to give her a song like that this week anyway.

  41. Jase says:

What are Michael & Melinda smoking?

Kree is SO not the underdog going into F3. If Angie’s twitter followers gets her to the finals, then the formidable country voting bloc should get Kree there too. The underdog is clearly Candice who may be the best singer of the three, but who has all the earmarks of that “shocking” F3 elimination. This is Idol people. Two white girls beat one black girl all day, every day, all week on this show.

    • daynamonet says:

While i do kinda agree with you in some way, shape or form, i do feel like kree and candice have been flip flopping the last weeks in terms of top 2 and candice has won majority of the time, so while i understand the whole “it’s because she’s black deal” i have to agree w/ michael and melinda that kree is the underdog. I mean where do you think all of amber’s voters are gonna go now? to candice. I also feel after candice and angie did their duet is more of a reason i feel they’ll be top 2, essentially that what i want. I do however feel where you’re coming from (i am black so i get it) but i try not to think about race so much, however if for some wierd reason it is an angie/kree finale, ppl may tune out of the finale except to see candice back again. Candice just has to be in the finale or else it won’t be right, it just won’t be. she’s gonna blow kree out the water this week and color won’t matter. angie up and down, she may kill she may not, but candice ain’t got time for no games.

  42. Adam Fachry says:

Guys, I believe we have heard of Angie’s coronation song. In fact, I believe it has been covered several times on Idol by the likes of Hollie Cavanagh, Lauren Alaina, and Haeley Vaughn. Yep, you knew it, it’s called “The Climb”. Yeah, girl! “keep on movin’, keep climbin’, keep the FAITH babyyyaaeeyyyyy!”

  43. jane says:

I going to talk about the elephant in the room and before anyone thinks this is a joke about weight, it’s not. I’m talking about Angie and her style of music. It’s been hinted at but not really discussed. Does idol really want a Christian Rock artist to win? Sure, in their niche of a market they sell records, but they don’t top record charts. Country artists sing about Jesus and God, but it’s not in a preachy in your face way. Colton and Angie both have similar issues with “connecting” with songs. They are both over the top, dramatic, and seem insincere (or overly rehearsed) at times. But, really, they remind me of performances I’ve had to sit through on Easter Sunday. If you’ve ever been to one of those “mega churches” with the big screens and the Preacher with Madonna headphones on, you know what I’m talking about. It usually involves dancers revolving around a big cross, and a singer with a big loud voice singing something that kind of sounds like a rock song, but the lyrics are all about Jesus taking over their life. And it all is so darn corny I sit there wishing I was at my mother’s church service singing along to a quiet hymn written in the 1800’s. All this aside, I think any of 3 ladies could make it to the finals. I just want Candice to win. And how ironic Randy keeps talking about Candice being the church girl, when it’s really Angie!

    • tewence says:

whoa you almost lost me there…i was beginning to think this was a church music review.

    • syb says:

While we come from the same point of view on this kind of mega-church soft rock stuff, I’m not going to judge. It is meaningful to a lot of people.

I don’t think AI would be bothered a bit to have fostered the career of a successful Christian contemporary singer. It’s a huge part of their audience, has always had a significant presence behind the scenes of Idol, and like the country genre, the Christian pop rock world is very likely to embrace and support an Idol winner more so than the rock and straight pop fans have.

This kind of vanilla scrubbed proselytizing is a turn off to me, and I have the same response to the Colton/Angie image, but hey, we’re not all going to like the same styles and personalities.

  44. Jushi says:

Angie is the most marketable among the three. She’s young. She has this lively personality. She’s the kind of person who wants to be idolized by kids (and I guess she said that even in her twitter account. She wants to be a role model). She’s a reality TV product through and through.

Angie is talented in her own right. I just don’t think she has any depth…yet, at least. I would say her artistry is quite limited given the fact that she doesn’t have that innate and organic beautiful tonal quality in her but she’ll work hard on what she has right now. She’s a very hard working and intelligent person. I think Jimmy have said it before, Angie is a strategist. She knows her game and she’s playing her game so well. She knows where she is heading. She’s a go-getter type of person and people who have this kind of demeanor usually leads the herd. ‘Who runs the world? Angie.’

I wouldn’t mind if she wins, even if I like Kree and Candice more. I don’t think K and C have the kind of personalities that works well with this kind of show and audience anyway. They don’t have big personalities and not quite accessible because they seem to be too private. K and C appeal to mature listeners as well…and AI is for kids.

As much as I want a Candice and Kree finale, I think the odds are leading to Angie and Candice and probably an Angie win. AI ain’t just a singin’ competition. It’s reality TV.

    My two cents.

    PS:

Just saw the spoilers for this week’s song choices. They’ll make Kree sing Perfect by Pink? What?!!! She has the most random song out of the three and I don’t know why she’s singing Pink. She’s self-destructing I guess.

    • tewence says:

the first bit of intelligence i’ve read in this comment section today!

    • Jasmine says:

You have to keep in mind though that Kree- none of the contestants, actually- didn’t get to pick any of those songs. All three songs were given to her.

      • Jushi says:

Yeah. Learned that just now. I don’t know, but the other song choices are spot on and I actually picture the contestants singing them. But Pink on Kree? Really?

Can the show just let these contestants compete in their full potentials and not pull anyone down by giving them random songs?

And yeah, Kree’s singing Here Comes Goodbye. How’s that for a farewell performance?

        • Jasmine says:

I don’t know, Kree might just surprise you though. She can put her own country/bluesy twist on the Pink song. But I’m rooting for Angela.

  45. daynamonet says:

Here are the song choices this week for idol: (not sure which is judge’s choice, jimmy’s choice, or producer’s choice but here goes)

Angie – “Maybe” Emile Sande; “Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word” Elton John; “Try” Pink

Candice – “Next to Me” Emile Sande; “One” U2 & Mary J. Blige; “Somewhere” Reri Grist/Barbara Stresiand

Kree – “Perfect” Pink; Better Dig Two” The Band Perry; “Here Comes Goodbye” Chris Sligh/Rascal Flatts

There you have it, the set list for tomorrow night. What do you think?

    • daynamonet says:

I’m not familiar really w/ Emile Sande but i’ve heard her name before, Candice can pretty much sing anything so not worried about that but they have Angie also singing an Emilw sande sang, can you say battle? And let’s not stop there because they have both Angie and Kree singing Pink, i guess this is a who sings it better competition now. I take angie over kree on pink, but i have to listen to emile sande b4 i make my decision on angie or candice, but right now i’m leaning more toward candice cuz like i said, she can sing anything.

      • Jasmine says:

and like we all know… you like her better. But I ain’t mad, Candice is a killer vocalist!

      • AlyB says:

I really think Kree can be amazing on Pink’s Perfect. She just has to dig in and give it some energy and she could really kill it. She just can’t do it laid back or it’ll come off sing-songy. For Candice, I think Somewhere is such an ancient song but it’s really beautiful and she could have the whole place in tears with it. The Emile Sande choices are good for both Angie & Candice. I’m not sure about Elton John for Angie and U2 for Candice even the Mary J Blige vocal. I don’t get it. I have total faith in Candice to make it work though and give it both the melodic beauty that Bono conveyed along with the raw power Mary J Blige brought to it. She’s a master at mixing it up like that. There just seem to be so many other songs that would have suited her better but she has that ability to make things not only suit her, but make everyone say omg wow when she does. I think Angie risks going really campy on Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word. That’s her tendency. If she pulls back on the theatrics and just goes raw and honest she could have a moment. It’s going to be a really interesting night. I can’t wait.

        • marie says:

I totally agree about Kree and “Perfect”! There is potential there for a seriously good performance – and I suspect that’s just what we’re going to get. Re “Somewhere,” my heart sank a little when I read that. West Side Story is one of my favorite works of musical theater, and I have no doubt Candice can tear the song apart and put it back together again – several times within the same performance, in fact – but I wish they’d chosen something newer. I imagine she’s going to go all dramatic on it and the performance will be startling and very memorable, but I’d have definitely preferred a selection with more jazz, less drama. My guess is that they chose an Elton John song for Angie so she could play piano.

          • deedee says:

Ooo, I LOVE “Somewhere” for Candice. The Barbara Streisand version always makes me cry it’s so beautiful.

          • Name That Tune says:

But Candice is getting something newer. The Emile song is perfect for her. She was given the best choices of the 3. Throwing in a classic like Somewhere is also perfect. I think that Angie and Kree have to work a lot harder to make their songs work and Kree is going to have to work the hardest.

          • marie says:

OK, Name That Time, I dint know that song – I’m not familiar with that artist – but good to know. Thanks!

        • HitTheGroundRunning says:

sorry is the hardest word is campy to begin with, and olllllllld and almost annoying no? that’s a rough choice, i mean it should fit her vocally but….

        • Name That Tune says:

I think One is a great choice for Candice. I don’t want to see her do 3 ballads and she’s got a powerful voice. I am going to love all of her songs.

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Seems like Candice’s Emile song is less sleepy so it might be easier to get votes flowing. Perhaps Angie could make something delicately beautiful from hers though and the ooohoo part might be a touch tricky for Candice on hers. But Candice might be spotted a trace better here.
        .
Angie should be spotted better for the pink song than Kree, no doubt. That said it’s a risky one for both.

    • Jasmine says:

what? seriously? I really don’t want Angie to sing that Elton John song. Although, he’s amazing, that song, I feel, won’t get Angie tons of votes. It’s too 20th century, like Amber’s “Power of Love.”

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

yeah that is vote killer :( man that woukdve been a vote killer 30 years ago :(
        .
why can’t they let them at least pick one or two songs themselves for this critical week (well probably precisely so they can control it all)

    • MADgotDRUNK says:

Nciki made a good point in focusing about the song choices at this point in the competition-whether they’ll make the audience sleep or snore..

The girls have quite proven their vocals so what else do they want. they should sing a song they’re comfortable so they could focus more in connecting with the audience. since the show did a lot of manipulation big time, why not bring it all the way and make girls sing idiotic songs.

make Angie sing “Pork and Beans” by Weezer while playing the piano to see her different take on that. broadway effect

make Candice sing “I’m sexy and i know it” by LMFAO

For Kree, any song by Tenacious D

      • Jasmine says:

That Weezer song is actually kind of rad. I like it! No one would take these girls seriously though if they sung any of the songs you just mentioned. It’s funny though. I can see Angie acting a fool now, haha! But Candice and Kree, they’re too reserved for that aren’t they? They’d be so uncomfortable. Hilarious!

        • MADgotDRUNK says:

haha just decided to have fun. so frustrated that they didn’t let them choose the songs for them. especially for Angie, i’m not even a fan but i can’t help but like her when she brings her performances (those that she has produced by herself whether a cover or an original).

          —–
that’s the whole point, make fun of the girls. since that’s what they’ve been doing

“Because I got High” by Afroman for KREE

          • Jasmine says:

Kree singing that song would make my day! That’s soooo hilarious! You’re crazy! (in a good way though) I can’t stop picturing her singing that song! Oh lawd! Help me!

          • Jasmine says:

Though Kree singing that song would make perfect sense, since she’s always so chilled out!

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

hahahaha that would so crazy seeing kree sing that hah

    • bingham says:

      Kree is screwed :/

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

not if they make pink first, her last two songs should fit no? and be big vote bringers no? angie has that tired out vote killer elton song, just hope she manages utter magic with it

        • Name That Tune says:

HTGR, it’s a piano song and it fits her range. It also fits the emotional tone of her style of singing. She will have an easier time with this than Pink or Emeli.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Which could put her in trouble since I don;t think that Elton song will rouse up much votes easily.

    • HitTheGroundRunning says:

angie – maybe (she can sing it, it is potentially a sleepy song though so a touch dangerous, but it is in her wheelhouse); sorry (in her wheelhouse, kinda of an tired old song though hmmm, not going to rouse people up much to vote will it????); try (gonna be tricky, she might be able to pull it off)
      .
candice – next to me (good fit for candice and easier to deliver with the sort of energy that gets people to vote, a couple parts might be a bit tricky for her the ooohooo section); one (should be good for her and very rousing, looking good for her votes); somewhere (seems a little of high sort of song for her, if she can make it work it could have huge power though)
      .
kree – perfect (gnna be tricky and not in her wheelhouse, hmm could be tough); better dig two (awesome for her and could really bring votes); here comes goodbye (guess it coudl work for her and could really bring country votes)
      .
I think they set up Angie with the toughest set to pull votes and set up Candice and Kree better especially since Kree’s tough one appears to be the first song so it will be forgotten (that could be a rough one for her though).
      .
Candice looks pretty well set up and they surely seem to want the whole country set going for Kree.

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Other than the P!nk songs, the U2 and Westside Story song I can’t say I’m familiar with the choices much. Have to admit I’ve never even heard any of the Emile Sande or the Rascal Flatts songs before in my life (although I have a feeling everyone in country land would known the Rascal song inside out most likely) and it’s hard to remember when I last heard that ollld Elton song (isn’t that considered an annoying song these days, maybe not).

    • Adam Fachry says:

At frst I thought the Emeli Sande ones were Jimmy Iovine’s choice and thought, maybe she’s one of the artists he’s handling at the moment. But I checked out her labels, and she’s not from Interscope. Idgi, do they want to make her happen in the US? They made the girls eprform her version of Crazy In Love for the Great Gtasby on last week’s results night, and now they make both Candice and Angie perform her other songs.

    • ejones says:

At this stage the song choices are irrelevant when it comes to the voting for top 2. They may improve the enjoyment of the broadcast but will not significantly affect the voting.

  46. Jessica says:

Amber I think was crying a lot and defeated b/c the judges so wrongly pimped her up the previous week, it boosted her up and then she read comments from others. I hope the dose of reality and some of this off time helps her in the business. Angie will probably win and I’m keeping in mind that teenagers vote a lot. She is way too teeny bopperish/cutesy to me and it’s not my style. Candice I feel has what is needed to make it -right now. No not the skinny figure (and that is OK!) but because she knows who she is. Kree really loves music, she is the singer she is (just like Scotty was) and even when she probably goes home this week again it will be OK.

  47. Bev says:

All these people b******* about Angie! But she must be loved by many! She is the only one who hasn’t been in the bottom! I hope she takes the title I love her.

    • Jessica says:

That’s the great thing about differences in people. Some people-probably a lot like Angie but also some don’t and that’s OK. I feel that she will win on AI and we’ll see what she does afterwards.

    • Jasmine says:

You and me both, BEV. You and me both! These people are really getting on my nerves with all of this hate and jealousy (cause that’s what it is-jealousy) towards Angela. She doesn’t deserve any of it! Yeah, she looks like Miley Cyrus. So what!? She can’t help how she looks. No one can! She has big teeth. So what?! She can’t help that either. But, I personally think her teeth are gorgeous and she couldn’t be more adorable. You can tell the camera loves that face of hers! I hope she does well this week, so we can see her in the FINAL 2! GO Angie Miller!

      • Angie_Overrated says:

It ain’t jealousy. it’s the burning desire to finally see someone truly talented win this competition. We’ve gone way too many years with ho hum winners, and we need someone amazing to break that streak. Angie is not that person. She might be in a few years once she learns how to control the extremities of her vocal range and not sing off pitch in those registers. Candice is ready now. So is Kree. So was Amber, Burnell, and a few others.

      • syb says:

What exactly do you think fans of others are “jealous” of?

I never understood that accusation. If it was important to me to back the one I think will win, I could jump on whatever bandwagon I want.

I think it makes people feel smug to think that others are jealous of them. More likely though, some people don’t think your favorite contestant is enjoyable as entertainment.

        • deedee says:

The “you’re just jealous” retort is one of the weakest counters anyone can use in an argument or debate. It’s pretty much the adult equivalent of “oh yeah? I’m rubber, you’re glue. Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you!!”.
          .
And btw, if I was going to be jealous of anyone this season, it would be Amber. She’s gorgeous; talented; has wicked dimples; and a killer body. That’s who I’d be jealous of … ok, that’s who I AM jealous of! *blush* :-)

      • syb says:

What is it that you think people are “jealous of?” I could jump on any contestant’s bandwagon I want if I cared that much about backing the winner. What you’re calling jealousy is just people who don’t like your favorite too much. Calling someone “jealous” because they don’t like who you like is a little smug, IMO.

    • Amy says:

Just asking, (not slamming Angie)..but wasn’t she in the bottom 3 once? I thought way back she had been?

      • Jasmine says:

Well, you thought wrong. If Angela was ever in the bottom, we would never hear the end of it. It would also have come as a shock earlier in the competition since she was still riding that high from You Set Me Free.

      • HitTheGroundRunning says:

No but she has been out of the top three.

        • MB says:

I don’t think she was out of the top 3, just not in the top 2 that week.

          • HitTheGroundRunning says:

Maybe. I guess that was a 2-2-2 split that week?? Well she still might have been out of the top three although more likely only outside of the top 2 I guess.

  48. no dawg says:

Assuming that Angie is the front runner, and the other place will go to either Candice or Kree, Candice may get Amber’s votes and beat Kree to the final. That’s one possibility even though I think it is a close race.

  49. Vice says:

That Harry Connick soundbite is going to be used so much now lol…

    • Jessica says:

When I heard Harry say that to Randy i knew Michael would love that lol.

      • Jasmine says:

It was hilarious! He sounded feminine in a way when he said it. Too funny! But Randy did need to stop because he was making no sense. You could tell Randy was caught off guard a little bit, though. He seemed a little uncomfortable or embarrassed. Ha!

  50. Buffy0531 says:

I get that Angie is the front-runner, and I don’t deny that she has a powerful voice, however I find a lot of her “power notes” kind of screamy, and she still looks like she’s playing the part, she doesn’t emote any more than Amber did, not true emotion. I think she’d make a great addition to Broadway. Candice has the power, control and emotion. Kree has kind of gotten stuck over the last couple of weeks, and I hope she can regain her previous form.

    • Jasmine says:

There is nothing wrong with being on Broadway. You guys act as if Broadway is nothing. That’s huge to me! If she’s on Broadway, that shows that she can do a lot of things, not just sing! So I say kudos to her if she’s ever on Broadway. There ain’t nothing wrong with that. It’s not all about this mainstream crap. It’s not all about MTV, BET, CMT, VH1. Go Angie Miller!

      • Amy says:

Though I’m not rooting for an Angie win over the other girls, (but am resigned too that it may be inevitable)…ITA with you re: Broadway and this: “It’s not all about this mainstream crap. It’s not all about MTV, BET, CMT” (and…does VH1 even play music anymore?!) Lot’s of paths to a viable career, besides serving up yet another auto-tuned dance single to Tweens.

      • Buffy0531 says:

Actually, I meant Broadway as a compliment. It’s an incredibly difficult thing to do, to perform each night, sometimes twice. What I was trying to say is that the harping that she is the most relevant and “poppy” is disingenuous at best. Her precision and enunciation are not pop…it’s the kind of performance necessary to convey the story with clarity.
