What to Watch Sunday: Firefly Flies Again, Family Guy Hits 200, Good Wife Gets Indecent and More

Firefly Reunion SpecialOn TV this Sunday: Crack open a Pawtucket Patriot in celebration of Family Guy‘s 200th episode, PBS Salutes those who keep us safe, Browncoats Unite is a shiny celebration of Firefly‘s run and The Good Wife might have to redefine the seven words you can’t say on television. As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.

PREVIEW | Once Upon a Time: Will Ruby ‘Wolf Out’? Meghan Ory Teases Deadly Twist

8 pm National Salute to Veterans (PBS) | On the occasion of Veterans’ Day, Gary Sinise (CSI: NY) and Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds) host an evening celebrating those who’ve served in the United States armed forces. The line-up includes former Secretary of State Colin Powell, A.J. Cook (Criminal Minds), Jason Ritter (Parenthood) and American Idol winner Kris Allen.

8 pm The Simpsons (Fox) | “Grampa disappears, so they’re trying to find him and they find out all these things they never knew about him” is how exec producer Al Jean describes tonight’s episode to TVLine. What kind of things? Grampa worked at a restaurant with composer Marvin Hamlisch (who recorded his part not long before passing away this summer) and fell in love with a singer (voiced by The Good Wife‘s Anika Noni Rose). Meanwhile, Jennifer Tilly voices herself as Lisa tries her hand at online poker.

PREVIEW | Family Guy Video: Will Episode 200 Be Stewie’s Swan Song? Plus, Watch the Table Read!

9 pm The Good Wife (CBS) | The CBS drama’s guest star-stuffed season continues when Christina Ricci (Pan Am) shows up as a comedienne sued by a TV network for indecency. In D.C. to defend her, Cary has an uneasy reunion with his dad (played by Mutant X‘s John Shea – get a sneak peek!). Real Time host/comedian Bill Maher – who knows from network indecency — appears as himself.

9 pm The Walking Dead (AMC) | Rick (AKA TVLine Performer of the Week Andrew Lincoln) struggles after the huge loss he suffered in last week’s episode; Michonne continues to give The Governor the stinkeye.

9 pm Sex in America (Discovery Channel) | The results are in from the allegedly largest-ever survey on sex — though remember, size doesn’t matter.

9 pm Boardwalk Empire (HBO) | Reeling from Gyp’s most recent attack, Nucky vows to eliminate his nemesis — with the help of some familiar partners.

9 pm Dexter (Showtime) | As things heat up between Dexter and Hannah, perhaps the worst possible person gets wind of their “killer” romance. Meanwhile, Deb has a huge epiphany.

10 pm Firefly: Browncoats Unite (Science) | To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the cult fave Firefly, series creator Joss Whedon and his cast reunite for an hour-long oral history – including footage from this year’s Comic-Con panel. (And in case you’re jonesing for another flight on the Serenity, a marathon of the entire series — starting at 7 am — precedes the special.)

10 pm The Mentalist (CBS) | The team’s latest investigation includes a run-in with a rich playboy (Lost‘s Henry Ian Cusick); Jane insists on pursuing his own leads to find Lorelei.

10 pm Homeland (Showtime) | Carrie deals with the aftermath of the incident in Gettysburg, Saul reaches out to Aileen Morgan (returning guest star Marin Ireland) and Dana tries to do the right thing.

  • I’m pretty bummed that 666 Park Avenue isn’t getting the ratings it deserves. The last two episodes have been so awesome. I’ll keep watching until it’s officially cancelled. Revenge and 666 will be watched. While The walking dead, Dexter and Boardwalk Empire will be fixtures on the DVR.

  • I can’t watch the Firefly reunion, it would just bum me out. I miss that show too much. But I will watch Boardwalk Empire and be rooting for Gyp the whole time. I love that crazy force of nature. And Dexter, though I think this romance between him and Hannah is weird. And Walking Dead ought to be a downer in the best possible way. And Homeland!!! Yay, Ailene is back!!! I hope Treme is on and that last week wasn’t their season finale. It would suck if they ended on the Jenette/Davis hook-up. I need to see the aftermath of that, because they’ll have to regret it, I would think.
