What to Watch Sunday: Eerie Mentalist Reunion, Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror Opens and More

On TV this Sunday: The Mentalist just might have a family reunion on his hands, Hell on Wheels makes its final (?) stop, Fox’s Animation Domination lineup scares up early Halloween treats and we spy a memorable Homeland. 7:30 The Cleveland Show (Fox) | Season 4 premiere: The kids go trick-or-treating dressed as their parents in an episode that kicks off an evening of Halloween-themed animated comedies: The Simpsons‘ annual Treehouse of Horror special (at 8 pm; watch a sneak peek), Bob’s Burgers (at 8:30 pm), Family Guy (at 9 pm) and American Dad! (at 9:30 pm).

8 pm MythBusters (Discovery) | Season 9 premiere: If “I’ll never let go, Jack” had you retorting, “You didn’t have to! There’s enough room on that board for both of ya,” then you won’t want to miss Titanic director James Cameron joining Adam and Jamie to tackle the series’ most requested myth ever. (And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, check this out.)

8 pm Call the Midwife (PBS) | This British series centers on a well-off young woman in her new career as a midwife (working alongside an order of healthcare-providing nuns) in London’s circa-1950s East End. Tonight, newcomer Chummy has trouble gaining Sister Evangelina’s respect.

8:30 pm Austin & Ally (Disney Channel) | Season 2 premiere: Austin’s new record-label owner, Jimmy Starr, invites him to play Ally’s new duet with Taylor Swift (!) at a Halloween party. Cue clever camera angles.

9 pm Hell on Wheels (AMC) | Two-hour Season 2 finale: As the town celebrates, Cullen must battle to save Hell on Wheels. (No word yet on Season 3 renewal.)

9 pm Steel Magnolias (Lifetime) | This TV-movie update of the 1989 big-screen weeper follows a group of women who congregate at a Louisiana beauty parlor. Queen Latifah (Chicago), Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show), Jill Scott (The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency) and Alfre Woodard (Memphis Beat) pick up where Sally Field, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton and Shirley MacLaine left off, while Rashad’s daughter Condola (Smash) fills the Julia Roberts role and newcomer Adepero Oduye subs for Daryl Hannah.

9 pm Dexter (Showtime) | Debra attempts to cure Dexter of his killer tendencies (isn’t that cute?). And seriously: What is Louis up to?

9:30 pm* The Good Wife (CBS) | Maura Tierney (ER) guest-stars as a wealthy businesswoman in an episode that finds Will working on his first post-suspension case and Alicia unexpectedly helping Peter’s campaign. (*Tonight’s CBS start times are adjusted because of a football double-header earlier in the day.)
