What to Watch Sunday: Hello, It's Emmy Night! Plus: The Treme Season 3 Premiere and More

On TV this Sunday:  The 64th Annual Primetime Emmys award TV’s best, Kenneth Branagh’s Wallander packs it in Before the Frost, a new season of Treme takes us back to the neighborhood and Boardwalk Empire takes a bite out of the Big Apple. Here are eight programs to keep on your radar tonight.

8 pm 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards (ABC) | Jimmy Kimmel hosts The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ annual ceremony, broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre. So here’s what you do: Check out TVLine’s comprehensive pre-Emmy coverage for interviews with nominees, in-depth features on your favorite shows and who’d take home statuettes if you picked the winners. Then bookmark the page and come back later for our real-time coverage of TV’s biggest night!

8 pm Broadway or Bust (PBS) | In the conclusion to this three-part docu-series, six young singers compete in The National High School Musical Theatre Awards.

9 pm Masterpiece Mystery! (PBS) | In Wallander Series III: Before the Frost, Wallander must reconcile with his estranged daughter (Sherlock’s Jeany Spark) – who’s none too pleased about her dad’s past transgressions – to investigate an escaped psychiatric patient who keeps setting things on fire.

9 pm Hell on Wheels (AMC) | After a tragedy, Lily and Cullen try to keep order in the mobile town. Elam makes a plan for the future.

9 pm Boardwalk Empire (HBO) | In New York, Nucky has some friction with Gaston Means, a “special investigator” connected to Attorney General Daugherty; Gyp decides to establish a strategic foothold between Atlantic City and the Big Apple.

10 pm Treme (HBO) | Season 3 premiere: Janette runs into her old nemesis Enrico but also finds a new beau; Delmond and Albert’s Indian-jazz album drops; Toni meets L.P., who’s going to help in her investigation of post-Katrina killings. (Read about the drama’s final-season renewal.)

10 pm Copper (BBC America) | Corcoran and O’Brien work a double murder; a boxing match sparks racial tension in Five Points.

10:30 pm The Mentalist (CBS) | In this Repeat to Revisit aka the Season 4 finale, Jane pulls a long con in Las Vegas, and the CBI gets its hands on one of Red John’s agents (Entourage‘s Emmanuelle Chriqui).  Note: Though the drama is purposely set to begin half an hour later than normal — per CBS’ NFL-shifted schedule — you may wanna give your DVR a bit of leeway on either side of the hour.

    I’ll watch the Emmys, and DVR The Good Wife & The Mentalist’s season finales to refresh my memory.

    Forget all that….watching Downton Abbey on the internet at 3 pm!!! Can’t wait till january for that! ….and maybe ill give the emmys a try too

    I’m just marking time until next Sunday [OUAT]. This is kind of a lost Sunday because I generally watch Masterpiece Mystery, but Wallander is just too depressing.

    I’m way excited for the Emmys of course, but Treme and Boardwalk Empire are the ones that have me jumping for joy to watch. And then next sunday, we’ll get to watch Treme, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, and Homeland!!!! Eeeeeeeee! That sound you heard across the country was my girlish screams of delight. What a great night of TV Sundays will be for awhile.
