After seven seasons of interplanetary shenanigans (and occasional genocide), The 100‘s fight comes to an end this Wednesday (The CW, 8/7c). So, what can fans expect from the sci-fi drama’s final hour?
“We’re going to try and wrap up as many things as we can,” showrunner Jason Rothenberg tells TVLine. “It’s a finale — and it’s a series finale on top of that — so there will be some surprise guests. Fans can have expectations of a certain scope and scale that I feel we’ve always been able to achieve in these finales.”
Wednesday’s finale also marks Rothenberg’s directorial debut, an opportunity he simply couldn’t pass up. “This was a difficult season, because we also made a pilot within the season in the middle of everything,” he says. “And because we shot the pilot so late in the season, I went right from being on the set of the prequel to prepping the finale. … It was definitely a challenge, but I’m glad I did it. I kind of wish I’d done it earlier, so I could have four or five [episodes] under my belt now, but it would have been a regret had I not.”
And here’s a fun fact (about a not-so-fun moment): The final scene from last week’s episode, during which Clarke decided to relieve Madi of her pain, was originally intended to open the series finale. “I actually wrote and directed that scene,” Rothenberg admits. “But the finale was too long, so I had to put it at the end of the previous episode. That episode originally ended prior to Clarke making the decision to euthanize her child, so there was going to be a little more time — at least in the audience’s mind — before she got to that decision.”
So, which “surprise guests” are you hoping to see? And what are your hopes for Clarke and the gang in their final hour? Drop ’em all in a comment below.
I mean do I hope Lexa pops up sure, is it going to happen definitely not. This show had so much potential but just lost me in the middle will be happy to binge these last few once it’s all wrapped up.
It could be a full hour of just tying up loose ends but it wouldn’t be enough
I’m afraid Bellamy is waiting in the light.
Rothenberg wrote the scene where Clarke has to make the decision to kill her child. Why am I not surprised. The show at this point is nothing more than trauma porn,
This!
If you’ve watched the show this far, surely you must have accepted this by now.
This!
What are my hopes? Fix the back half of this season…That’s my hope. Find some way to make me give a crap, again..That would also be nice. They’ve shredded all my goodwill, so I’m not sure what to make of any of it.
Show seems to be ruined for me and a lot of my friends since the death of bellamy. Bellamy became an important character, also one of the main characters in the show and the way he was killed off is disappointing. The show started of amazing and quickly became my favorite series sadly the last couple of seasons became a bit of a mess and now these last few episodes completely destroyed the show for myself and so many friends i know. We happily complain about all the messed up parts in the show which could have been done differently.
nothing is ruined….stop it please for the love of god
stop letting one bad apple spoil the whole bunch, what is with some of you fans logic in that because bellamy died the entire show automatically sucks, where is that logic coming from, why would you punish the cast and the writers for one death?
and even if you just watched for bellamy, why were you watching stuff after the death then?, to see if he comes back?
Tommy, EXACTLY!! This show has NEVER once been shy of WHO gets killed off, and when it decided to do THAT, these ‘fans’ act like this was the most shocking thing that has happened??! It’s like these ‘fans’ have never really understood this show at all! (course, most of them only stuck around this long because they mistakenly thought Bellarke was actually a thing).
And this fandom has been trying to punish the writers ever since Season 3, because they just couldn’t get past 1 shocking death.
And I gurantee you that the haters have only stuck around because they want to ‘hate watch’ and fill up tags on Twitter and Tumblr with their awful messages.
You’re not a fan. You’re legitimately not if you think what we got in s7 is compelling storytelling. PLEASE tell me how season 5 and season 7 connect thematically. You can’t. They don’t. Season 7 is completely devoid of morals, themes and logic.
If you don’t realize how broken it is, please watch it again, I beg of you.
Au contre. I’ve been watching this show since before Season 4. And I think every Season since then has been better then the last.
This show has always been dark, depressing, consequences of war, survival. And in war, people die. Nothing ‘shocking’ about it
I personally think this Season has been amazing. (not everything is about Clarke.). That’s just me and a few other fans.
And I’d watch this whole Season again, if I had time.
ana-idk who you are referring to by not a fan, but imo you dont have the right to say who is a fan and who isnt just cause you dont like certain changes within the story.
And season 5 and 7 being connected, why those seasons?, what do they have to do with each other.
I have watched the entirety of this show so many times. I am a FAN. Season 7 is amazing and going exactly how I would’ve wanted. If anyone was gonna believe the shepherd nonsense. It was Bellamy. Remember pike and how Bellamy teamed up with him and killed a crap ton of grounders because pike said grounders are bad.
I completely disagree with Ana… though this hasn’t been my favorite season, I have really liked it and can appreciate the grandiose nature. Season 6 also happened to be one of my favorite seasons. I also have to echo the comment that Bellamy totally would be the one to fall for Cadogan’s nonsense… Indra would know since Bellamy slaughtered her people that were just protecting them because of Pike
@The Ultimate Fangirl – This is not up for debate. If you’re willing to ignore the gaping holes of this season and play off every genuine criticism as “not everything is about clarke” or “bellamy wasn’t everything”, you’re genuinely not paying attention to the story. It’s not about being dark, AT ALL, if you can’t see the difference between seasons 1-5 and seasons 6-7, sorry, but it really does mean you haven’t been paying attention. It’s about payoff.
@tommymikaelson – the fact that you can’t place why I chose to compare seasons 5 and 7 is exactly why I KNOW you’re not an actual fan, s5 was supposed to be a wrap before they got renewed. Compare the tonal differences. Good shows have overarching themes and plots, bad shows will throw a “last war/test” at you mid final season and pretend it’s been there all along.
@Kate – WHERE did I mention Bellamy? Read what I wrote, please. I’m begging.
@Nick – same thing I asked Kate. Where did I mention bellamy? I don’t care about bellamy. He was probably better off dying on that explosion. My thing is poor storytelling. Sheidheda having a plotarmor the size of Texas? Indra leaving him alive to slaughter 2 different groups of people? Everyone being dumbed down? Really?
Reiterating.
If you enjoy season 7B and can’t see the valid criticism people have of the season, you’re not an actual fan.
yeah the show’s legacy will be tarnished by one guys death, its insane and they think he died a bad guy and he didnt
and im convinced we could see bellamy tomorrow and he has closure with his 3 favorite girls so i dont know why people are getting their panties in a bunch
I am not a fan of the show, more of a casual viewer thus I have no opinion on wether or not the show is still good or not, however I find it fascinating that every time someone says something negative about a show or expresses expressed dissatisfaction over writing choices there’s someone like mr. Tommy or mrs. Ultimare fangirl to state in reply how much the fans who dare express themselves in such a way are not “fans” or are incorrect almost jumping to the shows defense.
It’s interesting that two fans such as yourselves seemingly lack understanding of one of the most basic concepts of being a fan: having a favorite character. When you have a favorite character, one who you connect too, and you feel like they have been done wrong by the writing it can in fact ruin a show for you. Then of course there are those to whom Bellamy’s death was simply the straw that broke the camels back, the one thing they could not look past.
For you the show might be at its best, that is valid. You can love and enjoy and praise the show. That doesn’t mean others are obligated to feel the same, and it doesn’t mean they’re not real fans just like the both of you and others who are enjoying the season are no less fans for enjoying the current writing.
Others feeling and expressing disappointment does not invalidate your feelings and opinions towards the show. We all have things we like and things we don’t.
In conclusion, if you are enjoying this last season that’s wonderful! It doesn’t mean that you are a superior fan or that you should talk down to fans who might not feel the same, especially in replies to comments where they’re just expressing their feelings. (*now this doesn’t mean you can engage in conversation but do try to be a bit more understanding and civil)
If you’re not enjoying this season, I’m sorry I know and understand how you are all feeling. But it doesn’t make you a superior fan or that those who are enjoying it aren’t real fans.
If you don’t like it when someone calls you a fake fan then don’t call others fake fans.
Signed,
Someone who’s tired of fans having superiority complexes just because they like or don’t like something.
I’m with you Fangirl. It’s because they aren’t actually fans, they are fanatics. It’s a tv show people, if you don’t like it, stop watching!!! But don’t worry, you just have one more episode to hate watch, while I’ll be love watching.
i must tell you that i watched this show over and over for the past 6 years. when season 1 finished airing they aired season 2 the same year and so on. i am a fan of this show. you kow, i understand the line. i think they got off since season 6. but you know what? it relaxes. i never thought “bellarke” was “a thing”. i never saw anything romantic in them. i like the show because i am a fan who does not expect what i want to see, but what they have to offer. watch the show again on nextflix withou commercials once its over. you will get the hang of it and probably will be ready for the prequel. if you are not interested then what are you doing here? lmao.. no offense. have a good day
Accepting a high mortality rate and having substantive motivations for those deaths are two different things. When Rothenberg states that the motivation for Bellamy’s death is to reinforce a point that been made incessantly since the show’s inception , one must wonder if he think’s the audience suffers from some sort of low grade amnesia. But Bellamy is a character and not a plot point. Twisting him into something unrecognizable, over the course of a couple episodes, just so you can hammer a nail that’s already well set, is lazy contrivance. At disrespectful to the audience and the journey.
i dont agree with that fully but alright
YOu can complain and hate how things happened and still think hey I gave 7 years to this show I’m going watch the end of it anyway, because maybe you were watching for more than just one thing.
But yeah the SHOW SUCKS. Killing Bellamy and the way it happened undermined the ENTIRE SERIES.
People have a right to hate it and say they are upset.
I didn’t buy the Bellamy killing or the way the others quickly accepted it, but I don’t think you’re being honest. To say the show sucks over that, means you hated it before, or were overly obsessed with one character. A character btw who massacred a large group of people.
i dont recall saying people cant complain, im saying this fake idea the entire series is ruined cause bell died is ridiculous to say the least
i dont care if you only watch for one character but then why would you trash the rest of the show if he aint in it? wtf logic is that
how though, how did it undermine the entire show?
like people give me crap for enjoying certain parts of shows but apparently this level of backlash over one guy is totally acceptable
You shouldn’t get – as you say – crap for enjoying certain parts of shows. As I thought I made clear it is valid if you’re still enjoying the show.
Perhaps an example would help: Let’s say we are both having a good day, everything is going to plan, the weather is just how we like it then we both run into the same person. I don’t like this person maybe I find them annoying, or we have history or they always make snippy little comments whatever the reason this person has ruined the day. For me. You, however might like this person or might be able to brush interacting with them off and be able to continue having a good day. Both experiences are valid.
What I am trying to say is that it is personal, when someone says that the show is ruined because of Bellamy’s death they mean ruined for them. That doesn’t mean it has to be ruined for you, or that it actually is ruined but for them, personally, it is. And they are entitled to feel such a way, and express it, and it is valid even if you don’t find the logic behind it.
Sometimes, small perhaps illogical things can ruin something for us, like how running into someone we don’t like can ruin a good day.
you’re clearly not a fan or understand emotional stuffs, i have been watching this show since the beginning, as the show progressed, bellamy became a major character ,more importantly, he was the shows moral point, and watching how clerk killed him without a remorse was painful to watch, specially after so many years. it ended just like GOT, no logic, it was sudden.. waste of time and money…
It’s not Bellamy’s death that bothers me. It’s the complete contrived stupidity of it. Within the span of a couple episodes, they fundamentally alter the nature of his character, just so they can reinforce a point that has been repeated as nauseam since the show’s inception. All of this making his character arc meaningless and simply in service of a plot device. Not to mention the damage it does to Clarke, as there seems no ultimate purpose to killing him. It’s hack writing. And the last straw on a pile that’s been building for the last two seasons. Instead of using their “second book” as a chance to evolve the show, they just doubled down on the same misery porn. By the time they got to the stuff with Madi, last episode, it almost seemed like parody. I don’t believe anything they’re telling me..And if I don’t believe it, it has no credibility and I cease to care.
i will say if the last war revelation is symbolic nonsense and the dream bellamy had was a fake, and the war is more emphasised on bill and his disciples thinking the other humans are the bad guys…
then imo bellamy and all deaths related to this plot was pointless and the season is mostly ruined
i have to hope we dont reach that point tonight
LEXA ALIVE IN THE FINALE YES
Y’all ready for Lexa’s triumphant return?? LET’S GO CLOWNS!! 🗡🤡♾
As always!!! I’ve clowned for weeks so one last time, lexa back 7×16
Hopefully we get to see her, however she’s still on Fear The Walking Dead, so she might be unavailable. ‘Shippers will want to see her, especially LGBTQIA2S+.
More likely, we’ll see the return of early season characters such as Abby, Marcus, the two Jahas, Finn, Monty, Jasper, and Bellamy.
They might do a whole “Lost” thing.
ill give you two suprise guests i want
bellamy and a bardoan
I’m really gonna miss this. and hopefully we’ll get the prequel.
LEXA!!!!!
Bellamy so we can get some real closure in regards to his death.
Given how Bellamy’s story had run until Clarke shot him, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least that he somehow survived. (This gimmick is being used way too much in recent years, we just saw this with Bjorn Ironsides in Vikings, and even the actor(s) played along with it. (And notice the opening credits have been blank since “Bellamy’s death”. That’s usually a clue someone will be back.
At first I thought Bellamy was a goner for sure. Then they didnt show his body as after that finale scene when he was shot. They could have him in cryo right now. So now i dont know what to think. HOWEVER my issue with his death is this. In season 6 episode 4 Clarke apologized to Bellamy for leaving him like she did. (When she left him to fight in the fighting pit after putting the flame in Madi) He said “I know Madi is your family” Clarke replied ” Hey, you are my family to. I lost sight of that but I promise I will never forget it again. Your to important to me.” From what I have seen of Clarke I would think she would not have shot him in the heart the way she did. It shouldn’t have been Clarke to kill him. Now this last scene with Madi actually pis*ed me off. I know it’s a show. I know it’s a show where important characters and fan favorites have been killed off. I just dont think they had to do that to her. Shes a child, shes a special child to all of the main cast and I don’t think it was necessary. My only hope is that this happening to her is what lights the fire underneath Clarke to kick some a*s and save everyone. And then I hope a miracle happens, or whoever made the test or the stones shows up and heals Madi.
Who would I like to see? Lexa for sure but I doubt it. Lincoln to. I would just like to see our main characters survive and end up back on Earth to start over. Without the mountain men, and grounders, primes, , disciples, allie, or any radiation coming for them. Start over together and actually do better!! Oh and take Levitt with them!!! Not everyone needs to die in the finale season of a show for it to be a good ending.
this man is disgusting
100 💯 agree. I saw people write in comments for the reason was killing Maddie was because of the code . When I watch the episode I did not see it and now this interview confirms the disturbing first impression was correct . I want to say there is no way a broadcast network would get away with such a scene at the 8pm hour without a TV MA rating. As for trying to wrap up the season – no way does it seem like it was a priority . Let’s be real he wanted to protect the chances of the prequel . My guess is Clarke meets Becca once last time inside the sphere and she has been watching this whole time and witnessed all of this before . That’s why Maddie has memories of things Clarke has done this season. Anyone else see the pics Eliza has been posting in IG? She is posting pics of different wigs . One wig she has on is very similar to her current hair only gray . So I really hope we don’t jump time and they turn her into her own grandma.
Umm… Obviously they’ll jump through time.
That’s kind of the whole point of the time difference between the planets.
Plus, the show can’t just end with what happens to Clarke or Octavia or any individual. It’s about the future of the human race. They’ll time jump to the future for sure.
clark joins lexa in her world.
Spero in Lexa the commander… per Clarke ❤️
“We’re going to try and wrap up as many things as we can”
Maybe they should have started earlier answering question and wrapping stuff up instead of writing 15 basically filler episodes. Of course now the don’t have the time. This season had the worst pacing ever seen on tv
Show went downhill after they left earth..I am however curious to see how it ends
Personally I hate it when shows end and they decide to just shove up as many previous guest stars as they possibly can.
Larry Sanders fantastically joked about it when he walks and just sees people in the hallway and Arthur tells him “You know it’s mandatory for a final episode”
Although at least they didn’t spend an entire season on it like Supernatural. Not that I mind previous callbacks, but they usually feel so out of place to be randomly tossed.
Either way, I’m glad this thing is finally over. This season was just awful. They focused so much on Bardo, Shedheida and trying to twist how Hope is an adult character that they didn’t leave time for anything that we really care about.
The whole season has been characters stupidly going from one point to another with no reason other than writers said so.
Indra has a billion chances to kill Shedheda but doesn’t do it for no reason. Sheppard acts like a complete idiot and always send small groups despite him having the advanced numbers AND advanced technology? WTF? He could have just obliterated everyone on sanctum.
Time dialation works when writers want and doesn’t when they don’t want.
How the heck is it possible that in over 1,000 years nobody can replicate Beca’s work? It’s absurd. Technology is not magic. What one person can find surely another can as well. In real life almost any scientific breakthrough was reached by multiple people. This happened since biblical times.
I hope to see Lexa ☺️.
“I always be with you” ❤️
Lexaaaa pour un finale clexa endgame
Never have I ever wished for an “it was all a dream” ending except for this show! Let it all have been a simulation and Clarke is back on the Ark with the original delinquents about to get sent down to earth.
I’m a numbers nerd, so I think it’s cool that “The 100” had 100 episodes exactly.
Finn and Alexa!!
Lexa! #Lexadeservesbetter
Hey, right now i cant think of anyone who can comeback that is important in the fight.
Lincoln, Lexa, Morty, Jaha, Artificial Intelligence, Finn. Probably one might appear inorder to make one of them believe in the last War like Bellamy did.
I really don’t like how Bellamy died. Can she live with killing Bellamy because i can remember he was like family.
So much has happened but this show keeps me wanting more. Kudos they have done great JOB
