The Blacklist hasn’t run out of names yet: NBC has renewed the James Spader crime drama for a tenth season, TVLine has learned.
Spader confirmed the news himself on Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show. He stars as master criminal Red Reddington, who works with the FBI to track down the world’s most dangerous fugitives.
Season-to-date, The Blacklist is averaging 5.1 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating in Live+7 numbers — down just a tick from its Season 8 averages (5.5 mil/0.7). Out of the 10 drama series that NBC has aired so far this TV season, it ranks ninth in both measures, besting only the freshman Ordinary Joe.
Season 9 has looked very different, both in front of and behind the camera. Just days before the show’s Season 8 finale in June, news broke that leading lady Megan Boone planned to exit the show, with the finale serving as her last episode. During that installment, Boone’s Liz was fatally shot by one of Neville Townsend’s henchmen, and Boone called her eight-season run on the show “an entire life inside of my own life… What a dream. Thank you all.”
One day after the finale aired, series creator Jon Bokenkamp — who had served as a writer and executive producer on Seasons 1 through 8 — announced he was also departing the drama ahead of Season 9 to “step out of my comfort zone, try something new, and explore a few of the other characters and stories that have been crawling around in my head.”
“I genuinely believe the series remains full of life, creatively strong, and that bright days lie ahead,” Bokenkamp said at the time. “So now I join you — as a fan — to see where The Blacklist takes us next.”

The official synopsis for Season 9 says that “in the two years following the death of Elizabeth Keen, Raymond Reddington and the members of the FBI Task Force have disbanded — their lives now changed in unexpected ways and with Reddington’s whereabouts unknown. Finding themselves each at a crossroads, a common purpose compels them to renew their original mission: to take down dangerous, vicious and eccentric Blacklisters. In the process, they begin to uncover lethal adversaries, unimaginable conspiracies and surprising betrayals that will threaten alliances and spur vengeance for the past, led by the most devious criminal of them all — Raymond Reddington.”
The Blacklist‘s ninth season resumes in a new time slot beginning this Friday, Feb. 25 at 8/7c.

Yay!
Yes yes yes!
I am very excited that The Blacklist has been renewed – it’s one of my favorite shows – great cast, great stories.
Thank God my Blacklist lives to see another season. I miss so many that are gone, but the show must go on! I love my Red and my FBI Task Force and cannot wait to see what happens next. So happy for this awesome news!
ABSOLUTELY GREAT…SO HAPPY 👍👌
I really want to get a clear explanation of who Red really is and if I hang in until the end and don’t get it, I’ll be beyond pissed!
As long as the idea is to continue to take on black listers, I’m great. However, more on Red’s family issues, well……………………………pathetic.
I’m absolutely thrilled that there will be a season 10 (and hopefully more after that). I absolutely love James Spader, he’s such a fine actor.
So happy about the news and it hasn’t been the same without Megan Boone.
Indeed, it’s been a huge improvement since she left!
Amen that Megan Boone is off the show. Her constant whining about her plight in life and all the mindless changes of her character was beyond annoying. That being said, there have not been a lot of new plot lines to keep my wife and I watching it in Season 9. 8 was enough. It just got boring rehashing old business, alliances and personalities and the plots offer little new.
Yes, very happy indeed.Love The Blacklist.
Not boring,! Plot and characters go off the chart.
YES, YES, YES, So happy 😊 to hear Blacklist is returning. Love the show & the characters. Never miss an episode. 👍🌈🙏
The phrase jumped the shark is over used these days but revealing Red is trans really earned it.
So what you’re saying is that the phrase “jump the shark” jumped the shark?
I know they implied it but was it actually said he is her mother? Honestly I don’t remember it being confirmed and I’ve watched all seasons
You’re right. It’s never been confirmed. Since Red and Liz’s relationship is the core of the show, this is a big gap.
They never, ever implied that let alone said.
Oh, it was implied very broadly since at least the second season, if not before. I lost interest after killing off the husband and totally bailed any check-in after Samar Navabi wandered off with mental disintegration leaving Aram Mojtabai heartbroken (or whatever such devastation is called). Not to my taste, anymore.
No, there was NO implication of that ludicrous theory, whatsoever.
Much speculation about that issue, mostly due to viewer conception. Not sure if the actual writers are going in that direction. But when the series ends, I certainly hope all questions regarding this matter will be officially revealed as to who Red actually is and all the other questions that have surrounded the character, and not leave viewers in to decide for themselves, as there are many views on this subject. Glad the series was renewed and hope Red and Dembe come to common ground whereby they can end as they began.
It might be time for me to check this show out
You might be onto something. It might be a reboot of some kind.
It’s been a long wait
Love the Blacklist,so glad its being renewed!!!!
Seriously? Why?
I liked Blindspot better but TBL gets 10 season’s.
1. It’s “seasons”, not “season’s”.
2. Blindspot started out strong, but that last season was a slogfest and I was glad to be done with it.
3. TBL needed to end this season. Although, it has been much better without all the Liz crap that plagued last season.
Those who appoint themselves Grammar Police should take care not to include multiple errors in their own posts.
Just saying….
It should’ve been cancelled years ago.
Exactly why do you care if NBC/Sony want to continue??? My guess is it’s overseas sales are huge since the domestic so-called ratings are not great.. 22 episodes as well coming in Season 10 and to finish up Season 9… Congrats to all. Maybe we’ll see Liz’s kid go to college!!!!
I care because it was a show I once loved and looked forward to watching. The show’s writing has been going downhill for years. It also would’ve been nice if we would’ve not seen Liz’s kid be an orphan. All Red does is give the same philosophy speeches every episode.
With the way television ages children, she may just be entering her first year of college when the season begins – anything is possible in TV Land and I don’t mean the station. LOL!!
Season 10 will reveal that Red is actually an alien…
Yay! I love this cast.
The best thing to happen to the show was the exit of a costar who was a mediocre actor at best. I’ll watch again!
This season has been so much better!!
I am soo exited to see the season 10
THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!!!! I’m very much elated, & glad beyond words!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 One of my FAVORITE shows!!😁😁😁
Happy for the fans of the show. I quit after the fourth season it was just too repetitive for my liking. Has the change of show-runners and story without Elizabeth bring some fresh life into the show?
I’m in the same boat. Quit after I think 5 seasons. I watched season 9 out of curiosity and It’s improved a bit with Elizabeth being written off, but it can still be a bit of a slog to get through. At times it feels like the writers have run out of ideas, it can still be very repetitive and Red now sometimes feels like a parody of himself. The mystery of who Red is wore out it’s welcome years ago, and it feels dragged out whenever they bring up the mystery, like seriously, it’s time to move on, I don’t think the writers even know who Red is. But happy for those who stuck through.
Lol..😂🤣..I think so too.. Red’s true identity is indeed a mystery..
I think this show is running out of steam especially with the death of Liz. I thought this would be its final season.
Yay! I’m so excited! I feel like the writers hit their stride just before the break and can’t wait to see how the rest of this season plays out. Hopefully, they’ll close out the Liz chapter, though, focus on something else.
Great news that Blacklist is renewed because EPF the excellent cast of actors portraying it’s interesting an denigmatic characters spearheaded by James Spader – always liked him from the Boston Legal days with William Shatner.
Jon Bokenkamp needed to go – he nearly broke Blacklist and actually broke Megan Boone and the Elizabeth Keene character with his long drawn-out “great reveal” of the Red-Liz relationship, which died with Liz and became a sore hanging plot. Need fresh story writers drawing from the actors vision of where eteh series will go.
Look forward to more twists, and I won’t be falling out of my chair to see the return of Liz Keen/Megan Boone with a resurrection twist.
