Ryan Murphy Mulling Scream Queens Revival: ‘Who Should I Bring Back?’
Would you watch a third season of Scream Queens? No, really, would you? Ryan Murphy wants to know. The short-lived Fox series’ creator took to Instagram on Sunday to gauge the public’s interest about a potential revival of the dark comedy, which wrapped its two-season run Dec. 2016.
“So many people recently have been asking me about rebooting or continuing SCREAM QUEENS (RIP, taken too soon),” Murphy wrote. “Emma [Roberts], Billie [Lourd], Lea [Michele] and I have mused on it, but question: should it be a six episode limited? A catch up movie? Who should I bring back? Would love your thoughts. So many questions….”
For the uninitiated, Scream Queens starred Roberts as Chanel Oberlin, the monstrous head of a sorority whose members were targeted by a pair of vengeful serial killers. The cast also included Lourd and Abigail Breslin as the other “Chanels,” Keke Palmer and Skyler Samuels as a pair of pledges, Jamie Lee Curtis as the college’s dean, and Michele as one of the aforementioned killers.
The show basically rebooted itself in Season 2, relocating most of the characters to a hospital where they were once again targeted by a group of vengeful serial killers. But not even the combined star power of John Stamos, Taylor Lautner, Kirstie Alley and Brooke Shields — all of whom played significant roles in the second season — could stave off Scream Queens‘ cancelation.
Scream Queens‘ series finale jumped forward in time, revealing that Chanel No. 5 (Breslin) and Zayday (Palmer) are now running the hospital, Hester (Michele) and Dr. Brock (Stamos) ran off to Blood Island, Munsch (Curtis) became a world-renowned “sexpert,” and Chanel No. 1 (Roberts) finally got the talk show of her dreams, produced by Chanel No. 3 (Lourd). But the last-minute return of the Red Devil, who targeted the girls back in Season 1, resulted in a cliffhanger of sorts — one that could be resolved should Murphy decide to revive the show.
For what it’s worth, the timing couldn’t be better. Roberts recently detached herself from Netflix’s upcoming figure-skating drama series Spinning Out, freeing her up to reprise her role. Lourd has also remained in the Murphy-verse, most recently appearing alongside Roberts in American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Michele’s ABC comedy The Mayor was also canceled in early 2018, making her available as well. And given Murphy’s recent relocation to Netflix, the show’s second life could turn out even darker than the first (assuming that’s where it ultimately ends up).
UPDATE: Fox has “no plans on the Scream Queens front,” Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier told reporters on Feb. 6 at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena.

Why would FOX even consider this? It languished at the bottom of the ratings for its entire run. This is a real head scratcher.

Honestly, this show was a shrill, delirious, nonsensical MESS — and I would be here for a revival. Let’s get that six-episode Netflix miniseries POPPING. It’s so dumb and weird and entertaining. Do it.

Echoing what everyone already said, hot mess! The characters I really liked were killed in season 2 (Chad and Denise), the characters I wished would have died didn’t (Lea Michele and Emma Roberts), and Jamie Lee and Keke weren’t given strong enough material.
Lea was hilarious so that part makes no sense.
Season one of this show was so, so good and season two was so, so terrible. It went from being the show I was most excited about to a chore that piled up on my dvr.
I think the hospital setting just didn’t work. The catty sorority girl on a college campus was hilarious, but didn’t play well with doctors and nurses. I’d love to see the characters in Hollywood (working on Chanel’s talk show or some other tv show) or a fashion magazine or something.
Thanks for the reminder. Totally forgot how it ended. Like a lot of people, before season 2 I was hoping for a summer camp setting and was disappointed to find out about and with the execution of the hospital setting. But then! with the talk show ending my excitement was renewed. I realized that if there were a S3 that it wouldn’t involve a camp, but that was okay. I agree with you that a talk show is such fertile ground. (Still want summer camp though.)

If they bring it back, for the love of God, please make it scarier and make more sense. And don’t be afraid of killing off the main cast!
i’m all for it if this show comes back but don’t forget pretty soon the merger between Disney and Fox will be finalized and Scream Queens will be owned by Disney soon (and not just that but Ryan Murphy’s entire catalog will be owned by Disney including his new series for Netflix), so if Ryan Murphy wants to bring Scream Queens back it can’t be on Fox or Netflix cause one, Disney won’t own Fox Broadcasting cause its not part of the merger deal and two Netflix is cutting ties with Disney because of Disney+ launching later this year and Netflix considers them competition so if Scream Queens does come back as a wrap up movie or a wrap up final season like he said in his post it would have to be on one of the streaming services that Disney owns which would be either Disney+ or Hulu (which in case you forgot Disney is getting Fox’s 30% stake in Hulu as part of the merger deal combined with their own stake which is the same as Fox which gives Disney a 60% stake and will become the majority owner of Hulu cause they will have the biggest stake in the service).
Please don’t. Do a Coven spinoff instead, if only to get the witches away from AHS, as every single season they were in was horrible to say the least.
Love it Scream Queens is fun and ridiculous and I want to send an email with info and ideas 🥰 I understand it’s nonsensical hilarity and honestly we all need more of that in life 🤷🏼♀️🙂 I have some ideas I’d like to drop but idk where, cause I feel like doing it in these comments would be just a huge potential idea/ spoiler alert which I think isn’t fair to anyone to spoil fun. I hope things are going smoothly and something comes up that makes it all happen.

This show had SO MUCH potential to be funny, campy, and great. The reality was that it had sloppy writing, an obvious killer reveal, and very few laughs. I stuck with it through all of season 1 and it was not worth it.
I LOVED S1 that was the best season compared to S2. That season was hot mess. If it was to come back I voted for it as a Limited Series.
Of cours I need a revival of this show. It was so delicious, ridiculous, terrifying and campy and sassy. Season 1 was awesome. Season 2 was subpar but the performancea of the Chanels, Nicey Nash and Jamie Lee Curtis were delightful. Just gone too soon and so badly treated by the writers. IT WAS JUST TOO AWESOME. A big spoof of the genre. Delicious.

More Hester I am in. It is the definition of guilty pleasure.
I’d prefer some kind of Glee continuation or reboot. Same high school, but new teachers and students. Or set it in New York with a new cast and limited appearances from the original actors.
The first season was some of the most hilarious television I’d seen in a long while. The second season . . . yikes. I’d basically only be up for it if they ignore the second season. Also, Chad Radwell or his indentical twin brother need to be in it, or no go.
Denise and No. 5 were my faves and JLC is legendary.
I kinda think he should have handled it more like AHS, as an comedy horror anthology. The second season was a stretch getting all the characters back.
I’ll watch if Lea is back. Hester was funny and she even made season 2 somewhat bearable as Hannibal Hester. Chad and Denise would be a bonus.
