Power Spinoff Influence, Centered on Councilman Tate, Not Moving Forward
Starz has closed the book on one of its previously announced Power spinoffs.
Influence, which would have centered on slippery politician Rashad Tate as he continued “his cutthroat quest for power,” is no longer in development at the cable network, TVLine has confirmed.
The offshoot, originally dubbed Power Book IV: Influence, was poised to be the third in a string of four spinoffs, to premiere after Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book III: Raising Kanan, but before the recently launched, Tommy-centric Force. But since it was first announced in February 2020, the order had shifted, and Force was officially dubbed Book IV in the franchise.
The Power franchise remains strong at Starz: Ghost, which follows Michael Rainey Jr.’s Tariq in the direct aftermath of the original series, was previously renewed for Season 3; Raising Kanan, a prequel chronicling the coming of age of 50 Cent’s Kanan Stark, returns for Season 2 on Aug. 14; and Force, which stars Joseph Sikora’s fan-favorite character Tommy Egan, was previously renewed for Season 2 (with a new showrunner).
Variety was the first to report the news.

I don’t like him persay but but that’s a good thing. The show is about Power. You need all angles, all sides, all views. I learned that with book 2 cause I hated Tariq at first but he my boy now. Tate show would show the hood law side from a angle only the director can give us (which would be gas) We
need that!
He is not that interesting as a character on his own.
Powerbook 2 is not canceled I don’t know where they got that information from but it’s not canceled
Disappointed, this is the spinoff I was really looking forward to. hes the best actor and if the writers brought their “A” game it could’ve been like “Boss” or an edgier “house of cards”. I’ve only watched a couple episodes of Tommy’s show. kanan show is cool for the nostalgia factor but BMF has done it better. and not invested in any of the other iterations

I was looking forward to Larenz Tate having his own show being I am a huge fan of his. I think the franchise itself would have worked a good show in the story line . Please reconsider!
I think theyre just gonna give him a larger role in Book 2 instead of making an entire new show because hes still pretty involved in book 2
I agree with you, give Larenz Tate a larger role in Book 2. Keep Tommy’s spin off. I can do without the Raising Cane. never even finish the first season so I doubt I’ll watch the second season. Two spinoff is enough. I’M STILL MISSING GHOST!

I was really looking forward to Influence. I think it would have been very interesting to see exactly where Tate’s character came from and what he did in his past. He wasn’t scared of Ghost… Which meant he had some thuggism in his books. I really want to see this. Reconsider, 50!

I was looking forward to see that I watch all the Powers shows they should had kept Power 5 that would had been good good to have another Power show.
Book IV would have been a good spin-off especially for grown folks who are tired of watching a bunch of teenagers run around on screen being gangsters. They should have scrapped book III. Hopefully 50 cent will take his projects to a different network and they will pick it back up

Most adult gangsters start off as teenage gangsters. Raising Kanan was needed to understand why he was the way he was and to learn more about Jukebox and why they call her crazy. But everything ain’t for everybody.
I agree. I really wanted to know how those adults were made. Seeing their childhoods adds needed information. I really wanted to see Influence as well.

Love the Power Book series the more the better for me!! I think a spin off with Tate is a good move you will definitely have me glued to my set. Don’t stop there …there is absolutely many avenues you can take with this incredible show

I would to see the spinoff Lorenz Tate played an interesting character.
I would of loved to see Larenz Tate playing a councilman, I’m sick of all the drug dealing characters, it’s played out, we want to see a more important way that ppl steal/launder money 💰 (Politics) Slinging drugs is played out. I’m all grown-up, we need something more mature. I will definitely be glued to my seat watching Larenz Tate, I love his Character.
Me to I watch all of them from the beginning I have all of theses show on my dvr I record all of them so when they come back on I want miss them

I’m bummed! Larenz Tate was such a great addition in the later seasons of OG Power. The amount of spin-offs ordered just proves how fertile the universe is – so many strong and well-developed characters who could headline their own shows. I’d love to see Tate’s character again!

I just came to say that Larenz Tate is standing there looking all kinds of sexy in that picture and I will watch whatever it is. He has not aged at all.

I totally agree. That whole gangster thing with all the other spin-offs is overkill. It would have been nice to see a different storyline with political corruption.

Bringing power back , won’t be the same , Ghost supposedly is dead , Tommy , went to Chicago , Tariq is doing his thing , so na , don’t bring Power back . I’m good with Power book 2 , and book 3, &4 .

Find a way to bring it back. Don’t stop being creative now Starz. There is so much you can do with Larenz Tate’s storyline. Politics is just as cut throat as the drug game. Figure it out. Influence can be based primarily on the present & future, but every now & then the past. Who knows, maybe more shows could come from it. Politics is a very interesting playground for a show. Be inventive. Create a new political party, a new type of police force competing to be the dominate community’s protection.
Bring in mobs, politicians mixed in with bookies betting on college football, basketball even hockey games. College presidents and staff doing their dirt. Politician’s influences on singers, rappers, celebrities, film makers, tv networks, tie news analysts in on it as well, big & little business owners. Bring in other cultures or races. Tie in religion, mega churches, other religion & faiths. The word influence is a powerful word that everyone falls victim to or just the opposite prey on others with. Think big & new. All other Power shows refer to the past a lot. Let influence be primarily about how decisions, influences, influence the future. Influence can be a breath of fresh pollution in the Power universe. Use Ghost’s club Truth to tie in the celebrity aspect or whatever you want. If Ghost’s night club was back up & running. Whose behind it? Is it Ghost, is it Simon Stern, Ramona Garrity, Tasha, did Ghost have another child or a step brother, or a twin brother or sister? Did councilman Tate know about the other child Ghost could have had before Tariq? You know councilman Tate makes it his business to know everybody’s business. Don’t forget the lawyers have their part to play like Cooper Saxe, Davis MacLean, Tameika Robinson and whatever happened to John Mak? His character was important but very hush, hush. Is there more to him? Well it could be. Come on Starz figure it out. Bring us the Power fans, the audience another entertaining show. Continue to increase your Power Universe fanbase. Can one show have all this power? Yes, yes it can.

More than enough. If anything bring Ghost and Tasha back. Tate’s back story really have no purpose for die hard fans. We like him in the episodes but not enough for that.

Even though he made me sick and I couldn’t stand his character, he is a good actor. And I would have watched anyway, just because it was associated with “Power.”
