Go ahead and unpack your bags to Fantasy Island: The Fox drama, which was set to return for Season 2 on May 31, will now be back in Fall 2022.
Season 3 of LEGO Masters, which was also slated for a May 31 return, is being held for the fall, as well. Still set to premiere this month are So You Think You Can Dance, Don’t Forget the Lyrics!, Beat Shazam and MasterChef.
“There are some great moments where you start to see what you’ve got in the can,” Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said Monday during a conference call with reporters. “They came in so good — and the early scripts were so good on Fantasy Island, our partnership has gone so well — that you make a decision to move them in-season… We’re so blessed to have such a hefty returning slate, and great choices to make, and those were two of them.”
Michael Thorn, the network’s president of entertainment, added, “Fantasy Island is really a standout for us. The initial episodes and the incredible guest stars we’ve lined up for this season, it’s just really, really fun and escapist, and can’t wait to have that back on our air.”
A reboot of the original 1977 series, Fox’s Fantasy Island takes place at a luxury resort where any fantasy requested by guests is fulfilled — although they rarely turn out as expected. Season 2 guest stars include Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Rachael Harris (Lucifer), Jasika Nicole (The Good Doctor) and Zack Pearlman (Shameless), along with Desperate Housewives alumni Teri Hatcher and James Denton.
In other Fox news, the network on Monday announced renewals for 9-1-1: Lone Star, Call Me Kat and two other shows (get full details here) and confirmed series pickups for missing person procedural Alert and the Michael Chiklis-led crime anthology Accused.
Additionally, Gordon Ramsay’s Next Level Chef has snagged the network’s coveted post-Super Bowl slot for February 2023; get full details here.
Thank You Fox for doing the right thing. Why do we start series in the summer when being outside is more important. I really like this show, as the older one, and poor summer ratings would dome it.
Let all networks get back to fall presentation and reruns fill the summer
100% agree with you.
Some of us, like me recuperating from surgery, would love to go outside but are stuck indoors. I was looking forward to Fantasy Island to tide me over until I’m back on my feet and able to go to a real island.
Your great and so is your thinking
They should continue to delay it…the show was not good at all.
How disappointing. Fantasy Island is a feel good show and I was really looking forward to it. I guess reality shows are a lot cheaper to make so screw feeling good
Can anyone think of a summer show that was bumped to the fall schedule and it actually worked out in the show’s favour? Sounds risky to me…
Looking at the larger context, season 1 aired in the fall. This move is really just having the confidence to KEEP it a fall show, rather than dumping the second season in the summer.
Fantasy Island season 1 premiered August 10th and aired 6-7 episodes prior to the start of the “traditional TV season”. Yes episodes aired in the fall, the season 1 finale (Sept 19) and the two episode Christmas special (Dec 23), but most of ten episodes were summer and/or outside the “traditional TV season”.
Fair enough. I’m not sure whether I’d call an August premiere “late summer” or “early fall”
With the rise of streaming, traditional programming seasons are increasingly becoming an antiquated relic anyway, I suppose.
Yes, 90210 was moved from summer to fall and had a 10 year run.
It sounds like a lack of series for the fall and that he is compensating with not having ordered any and avoiding financial losses.
It was perfect for summer. I think fun, fluffy shows are good for summer watching. I don’t think the Fall will do it any favors.
This is the perfect Summer show. I don’t think it will do as well in the fall with much stronger competition.
I’m more bummed about Lego Masters being held til fall, though Fantasy Island does feel better for summer too…
BUT if this means they have any ideas of moving Master Chef to Tuesdays and giving SYTYCD a two hour block… then I’m happy for them to hold whatever they want for the fall :) *fingers crossed*
me too and fox is beoming the network making odd descsions as the moved monarch which was supposed to permiere this winter to fall, and now fantasy island and lego masters to fall and it sounds more like they have network execs interfering and they make schedule announcements and then go wait never mind and oh fox also had a promo out for lego masters so again it would be nice that they would hold off on schedule announcements
It’s ironic that the network prez says he “can’t wait to have it air,” when that is precisely what he is doing.
Awesome that FI is moving in season… bummed we have to wait a few more months for new episodes.
On the one hand, I’m really sad that it isn’t on this summer because I really loved it and was looking forward to having something to watch this summer. On the other hand, moving it to the fall is better for the show long-term, and hopefully this means we’ll get a full season rather than a short one.
NOOOOO! Okay, if the PTB have that much confidence in it, then I guess I can wait.
Great, I love the show. I can’t get fox in my area but I do watch on my phone. Another wonderful show to look forward to.
I am soooo disappointed. I was looking forward to having some decent summer viewing with this show.
Love -Fantasy Island. Happy to see it come back for another season.
I think the restructuring and complete lack of guide to shows is to FORCE people into your Crap STREAMING Where you can put on more Culture Garbage that NO ONE will watch otherwise
For the sake of the viewing (and streaming)public, they need to change their season ending formulae. If series team doesn’t know if they’re going to be cancelled, is it fair to end on a cliffhanger? Or shouldn’t the execs be required to notify the show runners of an impending cancellation to allow for a meaningful closure episode with some dignity?
Any news on Fantasy Island’s fall premier date ? You’d think there would be some news since it’s almost September & they announced the push back in May. I just hope it doesn’t keep being postponed until it’s cancelled !!
This BS, that show the farmers wife is dumb, why did you have to and ruin a good thing season 2 might not be the greatest, but you took away from the baby boomer/ Gen X,group you know the group with the most money, I hate commercials I can afford to not have commercials,. I guess I can tell what age group runs NBC, so EFF me I guess.
I’m utterly disappointed that fox are not making anymore of the fantasy island series ..me and my other half have just finished season 1 in the uk and are gutted to learn that there wont be a season 3…we in the uk would like to see more as most of the tv hear is no where near as good as fantasy Island . Two very very disappointed individuals 😳🙄🙄🙄🤨
