The Walking Dead: Best Of Season 10

Technically, Season 10 of The Walking Dead won't conclude until later in the year, when the AMC drama is able to complete post-production on and air the episode that was intended to be its finale. But that doesn't mean we can't take a moment to evaluate the season to date — it is, after all, the majority of the season.

15. 'I've Never Seen the Sun'

Who'd've thunk it? Before becoming Alpha's right-hand man, Beta had been a super-famous country-folk singer called Half Moon, a fascinating factoid that was revealed when he played his own album to draw walkers while mourning his ill-fated boss lady in "Look at the Flowers."

3. 'Are You Just Gonna Leave That Mask On?"

As a matter of fact, Alpha did intend to wear her mask while giving Negan "a crass reward" (sex) in the midseason premiere. "Does my true skin disturb you?" she asked. "Weirdly," he replied, "the opposite." So began one of the stranger "love scenes" in television history.

6. 'Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time'

Negan couldn't contain his amusement when the Whisperers saved their new Alpha from Daryl in "Look at the Flowers." But the Saviors' former leader wasn't ever really going to shoot Daryl. Rather, he completed his redemption arc by making the walker-skin-wearers more than just look undead.

1. 'Took Ya Long Enough'

She never saw it coming. In "Walk With Us," Negan used the promise of a reunion with daughter Lydia to lure Alpha to a remote cabin. There, he slit her throat and beheaded her, all to make good on a secret deal he'd made with — wait, what?!? Henry's vengeful mother, Carol.

8. 'You... Will... Walk... With... Us'

Gamma — sorry, Mary — had just won over even skeptical Alden in "Walk With Us" when nemesis Beta sucker-stabbed her, then let her turn. Were it not for her former detractor putting an arrow in her brain, she might still be wandering among the Whisperers' "guardians."

13. 'Please... Just Say It'

After leading her friends directly into Alpha's trap in the midseason finale — insert facepalm here — Carol went rogue again in "Squeeze" in hopes of blowing up the Whisperers' horde... and wound up, as far as we could tell at the time, killing Daryl's crush, Connie. Yeah, Carol had a rough season.

2. 'Where the Hell Did You Get These?'

We've known since Rick went missing in Season 9 that he wasn't a goner, just gone. But we were still as shocked as Michonne when "What We Become" dropped in front of her so much evidence that "the brave man" wasn't also a dead man that she set out to find him.

9. 'Never Bulls–t a Bulls—ter'

No sooner had Carol gotten a gander at the size of Ezekiel's tumor in "Morning Star" than the exes were making like honeymooners. "Would this have happened," he asked afterwards, "if we didn't think we were gonna die tonight?" We're gonna go out on a limb and say, if the cancer didn't kill him first, definitely.

17. 'Oh My God, Hi!'

"I'm great — you'll see," insisted Princess in the season "finale." And by God, we did. Sure, she was kind of a screwup, scaring away Eugene, Yumiko and Ezekiel's horses, leading the trio into a minefield and offering them bicycles (?), but the more we got to know her, the more we loved her.

10. RIP, Earl

No words needed to be spoken between Daryl and Judith in "Morning Star" when he found Lil' Ass-Kicker with the no-longer-reanimated remains of Tammy Rose's widower. In an instant, Daryl understood that Michonne's little girl had just gone through a big, heartbreaking growth spurt.

16. 'Loser With a Forlorn Heart'

Hoping to cheer up Eugene after the Whisperers deep-fried the radio with which he'd communicated with crush Stephanie, Rosita offered to let him kiss her in "Morning Star" — and he couldn't. "It's a special kinda peculiar," he marveled, "to hanker for a kiss from someone you haven't met."

14. 'You're Not a Half-Bad Kisser'

Michonne was surprised to find Ezekiel looking suicidal in "Silence the Whisperers" but downright shocked when he turned around and kissed her. He was pretty good, too, though she admitted she might not be the best judge, having not pecked anyone but her kids in years!

5. 'This Is Your Last Chance'

No sooner had Eugene recovered from the heartbreak of missing his meeting with Stephanie and rededicated himself to "boldly voyaging" with Ezekiel, Yumiko and Princess than the group was beset by... were those Stormtroopers?

11. 'For... Alpha'

In "A Certain Doom," Beta was about to avenge Alpha's death when, at the last second, Daryl swooped in and saved Negan by plunging a pair of knives into the brute's eyes and feeding him to his own "guardians."

7. 'It's OK, He's With Me'

For a minute there, we feared that the Season 10 "fauxnale's" title — "A Certain Doom" — was exactly what awaited Gabriel. But at the last second, Maggie burst in with her badass traveling companion and saved him from the Whisperers.

4. 'I Didn't Want This'

We never saw it coming — and, sadly, neither did Siddiq, not until it was too late and secret Whisperer Dante was already a breath away from choking the life out of him in "Open Your Eyes."

12. Connie Lives

When we first glimpsed Kelly's sister in Season 10's fauxnale, she looked like death warmed over — maybe not even warmed over — and moved with a jerkiness that made us fear that she'd turned. So you can imagine our relief when at last she gazed toward the camera and let us see that she was alive (and, by extension, so were Daryl's chances of getting a girlfriend).
