The Conners Season 2 Wish List
A SEASON 2 PREMIERE DELIVERY
Rather than skip over the birth of Becky’s baby, the first episode back should pick up on the day Becky goes into labor. There’s too much humor to mine, especially if life coach Jackie follows her niece into the delivery room.
JACKIE GETS THE LUNCH BOX BACK
In the Season 1 finale, Jackie said that she was only “truly happy” when she ran the loose meat sandwich joint with her sister. We don’t know how she’d manage to buy back the restaurant (maybe Bev has some money she was going to leave to Roseanne in her will?), but reclaiming her former business would give the character a much-needed sense of purpose. Then…
BECKY GOES TO WORK WITH JACKIE
If Jackie buys back The Lunch Box, she should bring Becky on as her new business partner. Becky can then leave her job at La Casa Bonita, an establishment which at this point will only serve as a constant reminder that baby daddy Emilio was deported.
KATEY SAGAL RETURNS AS DAN’S NEW LADY FRIEND
John Goodman needs a new scene partner — and his chemistry with TV’s erstwhile Peg Bundy was off the charts. Even if Dan’s not ready to admit it, there’s definitely a spark between him and Louise.
JOHNNY GALECKI SIGNS ON AS A SERIES REGULAR
Now that The Big Bang Theory is coming to an end, Galecki will be free to reprise his role as David as much as he wants — and the Season 1 finale hinted at a substantial storyline in Season 2 (see next slide). If he came on board as a regular, he’d only be committing to 10-13 episodes per season (versus Big Bang‘s 24 episodes per season).
DARLENE’S LOVE TRIANGLE LINGERS ON
We don’t need (or necessarily want) Darlene and David to get back together, regardless of Galecki’s status next season. Viewers like Jay R. Ferguson’s Ben, and he’s a great match for Darlene. It’s understandable why she’d need time to sort out her feelings for both men.
JACKIE AND BEV ATTEMPT TO MAKE AMENDS
The bickering mother/daughter duo owe it to themselves to give therapy another try in an attempt to salvage the closest relationship that either of them has left. Plus, the one-year anniversary of Roseanne’s death is sure to dredge up some feelings.
D.J.’S PTSD COMES TO LIGHT
D.J. told Dan that he was seeing a therapist down at the VA back in Roseanne Season 10. Then, in the Jan. 8 episode of The Conners, Geena revealed to Darlene that her husband suffers from depression. The seeds have been planted to show the effect that his mental health may or may not have on his marriage.
DAVID SPENDS QUALITY TIME WITH HIS KIDS
We’re told that David has made strides with Mark and Harris, but we haven’t had any scenes where it’s just him and the kids. We’d especially like to see how he bonds with his gender-fluid son, who he abandoned before he was even born.
JACKIE RECONNECTS WITH ANDY
Unless Andy has been Chuck Cunningham’d, we can only assume that mother and son are estranged. Now’s the time to cast the would-be 25-year-old and explain why he hasn’t been seen (or mentioned) since Roseanne‘s return.
