Grey's Anatomy: Hopes For Season 12

ELLEN POMPEO

LIFE AFTER LOVE

Thanks to the time-jump, a year has passed since Meredith lost Derek. But, for viewers, it's still only been a few months. That being the case, even if she's ready to date again, we... um, aren't. So, rather than immediately hurl the widow into a new romance — back away, Martin Henderson! Back away! — we'd have her focus on her kids, her work and maybe meddling in her friends' relationships. (God knows Alex needs all the help he can get!)

JESSICA CAPSHAW, SARA RAMIREZ

We may not be quite ready for Mer to wade back into the dating pool yet, but we are ready — eager, even! — to see Callie and Arizona in new relationships. (Heck, we'd settle for a few episodes of flirtation!) After enduring all the Sturm und Drang of their split, viewers deserve a little romance as much as they do!

SARAH DREW, JUSTIN CHAMBERS, CAMILLA LUDDINGTON

MOVING IN... OR ON?

If Alex and Jo are gonna stay together, we're gonna need a coupla things to happen, stat: 1) He's gonna have to put a ring on it, and 2) they're gonna have to remodel that hovel that she bought for them. And if they're not in it for the long haul, may we suggest — again! — that Katherine Heigl return as Izzie to facilitate the break-up. Even Camilla Luddington (Jo) agrees that it "would be nuts." In a good way!

ACTION JACKSON

When was the last time you saw Jackson smile? You don't remember, do you? And that ain't right. (He has a killer smile.) So, after losing his son and his marriage last season, let's make sure the only things he loses this season are his clothes and that gray cloud that seems to have taken up residence over his head. Perhaps perky, quirky Maggie could help?

SEEING-EYE DOC

By the time Geena Davis' arc was done, we had fallen hard for her bristly Dr. Herman. So it felt like a bit of a cheat that we didn't get to see how Arizona's mentor dealt with the fact that not only was she going to live, she was going to live without her vision. Couldn't she be brought back at least for a quick consult?

Greys_Season12_Stephanie

DR. REAL-GOOD

Especially since she began working with tough-as-nails Amelia, Stephanie has really come into her own, professionally speaking. Now it's time to take the EKG paddles to her personal life. (Has the poor girl even had a date since being dumped by Jackson?) Our solution: We'd hook her up with Andrew, the new intern with the lushest locks since McDreamy.

CHANDRA WILSON, JAMES PICKENS JR., CATERINA SCORSONE, JASON GEORGE, DEBBIE ALLEN, KELLY MCCREARY

We were psyched to hear that Debbie Allen had signed on to direct more episodes as well as exec-produce... until we started to worry that she'd be spending more time behind the camera than in front of it. If there's one thing we — and Richard — need, it's more Catherine! Mama Avery brings both her curmudgeonly husband and the show to life!

PASSING THE TORCH

Yes, yes, we know Alex is now Mer's "person." But it would still be nice to see Cristina check in on her bestie, wouldn't it? And since Sandra Oh left on good terms, why not? Plus, were Owen's ex to visit Seattle, she could also weigh in on his on-again/off-again relationship with Amelia. (And yes, we admit it: We are basically looking for any excuse to see Cristina again.)

SARAH DREW, CHANDRA WILSON

NICE WORK... IF YOU CAN GET IT

When last we saw Bailey, she was pretty confident about her chances of trouncing Catherine's nominee for Chief of Surgery. But would she be so sure of herself if the competition was... the new-and-improved badass April? We know Kepner got a rush from working on the battlefield, and if she went up against Bailey, it would certainly turn Grey Sloan into a war zone!
