Fox News has parted ways with primetime anchor Tucker Carlson, effective immediately.
The cable news network made the announcement on Monday morning. The statement reads as follows:
“Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.
Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday, April 21. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 pm ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”
There was zero indication of Carlson’s exit as recently as Friday evening, when at the close of what would be his final episode he said to viewers a typical, “We’ll be back on Monday.” In fact, as of this morning there were still promos running for Carlson’s planned interview with Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. (Watch Fox News announce Carlson’s exit on air.)
Carlson’s exit comes in the wake of Fox News Channel reaching a settlement in a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems, just as their much-publicized trial was about to get underway. Dominion claimed it was owed damages resulting from Fox News’ airing of false claims about its role in the 2020 election. In the past few months, emails and texts gathered for the trial from Fox executives and anchors — Carlson and Sean Hannity included — hinted that people working at the company knowingly put forth false information about the election and Dominion’s involvement in it.
Justin Nelson, an attorney representing Dominion, said the case was settled for $787.5 million.
In a statement released after the settlement was reached, Fox said: “We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems. We acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false. This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards. We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.”
Carlson began his Fox News tenure as a political analyst in 2009, appearing on various programs before the launch of Tucker Carlson Tonight in 2016. Prior to that, he worked at CNN from 2000 to 2005, where he served as cohost of the debate-style program Crossfire, before making the leap to MSNBC, where he hosted the primetime program Tucker from 2005 to 2008.
In other cable news, CNN on Monday terminated Don Lemon after 17 years. For more on that, go here.
Wonderful!
Probably because his antics(as well as others of his ilk) have cost Fox News a ton of cash. Not to mention the faux news outlet has other cases against them in the works.
He had the proof to back his reporting up. It’s that those most just DON’T WANT to see the truth in what he WAS reporting unfortunately.
lol yeah nothing says “factual” like $787 million in defamation payments
exactly, right!?
Nothing says caving in like Fox settlement. I watched election night where at one place 6,000 Trump votes magically switched to Biden. They had so much they could have brought up about the corrupt Dominion. First amendment took a hit.
You’re in a cult.
The facts aren’t in your favor.
@Michael Katz: Is it something in the water that makes you people willfully stupid?
You should take your evidence and present it to the attorneys for Fox. I am sure they would want to use it to defend against the other lawsuit by the other voting company.
OY, SMDH
If they had so much they could have brought up about Dominion, then why didn’t they bring it up during the defamation trial? Seems like they could saved themselves a lot of money.
Which one place..give us an exact location.
Do you think if something even remotely close to this had actually happened that fox would be forking out lose to a billion dollars in that defamation trial.
Oh honey, you really think Fox would cave by forking over $787 MILLION if there was a single shred of evidence backing up these claims? Corporations aren’t in the business of losing that much money if they can help it. Their legal team would have squashed Dominion like a bug if there was any proof to back up their claims.
I did not know Trump even had 6000 votes, he must have a really big family.
Yeah, almost 74,000,000 family members, I guess.
Sounds like someone at the network had entered the data in the computer wrong.
It’s time for another glass of Kool-Aid.
He doesn’t know what proof is. He just uses circular reasoning.
You’re almost right with “It’s that those most just DON’T WANT to see the truth in what he WAS reporting” though – he relies on confirmation bias to prevent people questioning what he says. He’s saying what people on the right want to hear, so they don’t question or even care whether it is true or not.
You realize that even Tucker admitted that he was lying, right? He knows his audience have zero critical thinking skills and will blindly believe what he says on air.
The man was caught insulting your intelligence in private text messages.
Your an idiot
There wasn’t much truth in what he was reporting, sweetie. He was a propaganda machine that would fail a works cited. Y’all just bought into it. To be fair there are some left wing morons who do the same. Tucker was just more harmful than most of them. Him and O’Rielly are pretty much the reason my mom turned into an absolute moron.
Fox News’ legal team literally argued in court that Carlson is an entertainer and is not ‘stating actual facts’ about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in ‘exaggeration’ and ‘non-literal commentary.’ They also said any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism’ about the statement he makes.
…
So you really just raised your hand and admitted to not being a reasonable viewer.
Actually he didn’t. He was never a reporter on Fox. The network classified the show as “entertainment”. Fox has kept you from seeing the evidence that proves that they lied to you. Over and over.
I’m guessing this was part of the behind the scenes reorganization in response to the Dominion lawsuits. While it seems good move on the surface it’s not like Tucker is going to retire. Either he already has a job lined up on another Network/Service that’s eager to take him or he will try to start his own Site/Brand/Channel thing. The only hope is that Fox gave him a severance deal that requires him not to work as a competitor for a certain amount of time.
I doubt he has anything lined up. This day is long-long over due he once was a respectful news guy until he met Trump and his followers. Tucker was it worth it being a follower?
You’re not very bright. He’s their number 1 anchor. He’s been getting offers all morning.
Not sure he’s getting offers. There are still a few lawsuits against Fox. And also against the other conservative networks. Tucker might be to toxic right now. Plus I see a few others from Fox being let go in the near future.
Smartmatic sued Fox and others for more than Dominion, and as Fox settled, I don’t see how Fox would go to a trial with Smartmatic.
And Tucker was a designed witness.
So yes, he is a plague presently for any network willing to hire him.
I think it’s unlikely that one of the “mainstream” outlets will take him. I don’t think it’s out of the question that he’ll find a job, though. Bill O’Reilly, Carlson’s predecessor, moved to the right-wing Newsmax after allegations of sexual assault. The same happened with Mark Halperin.
He was literally not an “anchor”. Which is why his lawyers were attempting to argue in the Dominion case that he was simply an opinion columnist. He may have been the top opinion show, but that just equals highest paid and first on the chopping block after the settlement. (Can’t speak to his receipt of offers or not, though.)
He’s a racist. I can’t stand to look at him let alone listen to his lies!
I agree! He had the info to back up his reporting. They just don’t like the fact he was reporting the truth!
He and everyone else that claimed it was rigged, NEVER PRODUCED this so called proof. Instead, they (lawyers and pundits) lost 5 dozen court cases without ever producing this phantom evidence.
Tucker et al are selling bridges. And some buyers are somehow not aware still that their bridges don’t even exist!!
Speaking of dimness, being #1 on Fox is not the same as being a respected journalist (which he never was). The best fit would be a shabbier carnival like OAN. (And being nasty to a commenter does not lend an air of authority. Try & remember that.)
First, having a different opinion doesn’t require an opening insult. You can share your assumption that he’s been getting offers without critiquing someone else’s intelligence. The inability to do so speaks volumes. Second, I’m not sure many reputable media outlets are hot to hire a guy who sent text and emails indicating he knew the stuff he was “reporting” on air was false. But you certainly have the right to your opinion.
The only thing it speaks to is that someone is calling out the stupidity that passes for thinking. We have too much available information at the click of a few keys , for so many to continue to be willfully ignorant. And no! No one is entitled to their opinion. We are only entitled to our informed opinion. Most of the audience that lap up the daily crap that Tucker and his ilk spew, are nothing more than ignorant fools and it is time they are told exactly that instead of coddling them.
Aaron, I know these threads are hard to follow – my response was to Faith who suggested someone wasn’t bright for not being Team-Carlson. Personally I think Tucker is a dangerous blowhard and it’s downright depressing that his audience accepts his bluster at face value even after he’s been proven to be a manipulative fool. But, I disagree with you on one thing – people really are entitled to their opinions whether they are informed or not. They can have an opinion. They can voice it even. Disagreeing – even if you can back up your opinion with facts – doesn’t dismiss the value of civility and respect. I can be blunt – but that doesn’t mean I resort to name calling and insults. It gets us no where
Getting offers from who?! That’s funny.
He’s been fired now from every major news network. He’s a famous racist, is being actively sued for sexual misconduct and hostile work environments, and is an advertisers’ nightmare. I mean, he does have a face for radio, but let’s see who wants to give him a huge contract after this Dominion lawsuit only revealed he prefers lying and manipulating his viewers.
Tucker Carlson was not an anchor on Fox. He was “entertainment” according to Fox’s own website.
Tucker was not a Trump guy and he would be one of the last persons I would describe as a “follower”. I wish him well as he has a unique and interesting style of reporting.
You call his diatribes and BS comments, his racist invectives, as well as, his ridiculous infantile coverage of total meaningless occurrances, “a unique and interesting style of reporting?” Not a very high standard.
He wasn’t a reporter. His job was to get high ratings. Fox can watch second by second exactly what gets viewers to watch and what causes them to stop watching. Getting people angry gets them to turn in. That’s why even their website described Tucker Carlson’s show “entertainment”, not news.
You don’t have a clue!
Mary, you so far out of touch usual liberal excuse, Blame Trump
That functionally illiterate orange buffoon does have a lot to answer for. But I blame his ignorant followers more.
You are misinformed. Tucker was not a fan of Trump.
He can always go to that once dumpster fire Blaze that’s now just a dirty ask tray.
Good riddance (for now)
Well then if he is gone so am I! We love him and his fair balance news and his sense of humor. You stink
Fair? He admitted that he was lying on air!
No he didn’t.
Lmao he did. And they got sued because of it. Seriously, how dumb are you people?
Tucker’s own lawyers argued in court that a “reasonable viewer of average intelligence” would never actually believe what he says or take his statements as factual.
Thanks for letting us all know what level of intelligence the average Tucker viewer has…
As other have said, it has been established under law that Tucker Carlson is a proven liar and that no one should believe a word he says
He didn’t have to admit it. All of his texts and emails that were released to the public prove he was lying. He said he didn’t believe people like Giuliani and Powell and he thought they were crazy. He pushed the big lie for profit and helped incite the insurrection. He deserves far worse than just being fired.
Lol who stinks? TVLine for reporting this?
I so agree with you , And what you say here.
Fox literally argued in court that no reasonable person thinks Carlson is news. How dumb are you?
This is so stupid. Fox did not argue anything the case was settled before it even began
And why would fox settle and pay 3/4 of a billion dollars if they thought they could win?
Sheesh,
No it didn’t Fox News went to court to try to get the case dropped. That’s when it all came out. They lost the atempt to have it thrown out and that’s what was stopped. So yes, in their original attempts in court to get the case thrown out, they did say that. Clearly you don’t have an understanding about all this. Of course since Fox News didn’t report on it (all the other outlets did) you wouldn’t have know that.
The Fox News lovers obviously don’t know how to read the fine print. Or they would never believe anything it says anyway.
Why are we even surprised they don’t know what they are talking about. SMH
It was a different case, specifically about Tucker. His lawyers argued that any reasonable viewer wouldn’t take his opinions as facts and the judge decided that Tucker’s program was not a news program but an opinion program therefore his audience shouldn’t reasonably believe what he says. He actually won the case against him on that basis. Everyone has known for a while that Tucker is not a news program and he doesn’t report the facts and that was already declared in a court of law as well.
Some actual facts, Tucker was sued for slander. Here is what Fox lawyers argued & the judge agreed: “Just read U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil’s opinion, leaning heavily on the arguments of Fox’s lawyers: The “‘general tenor’ of the show should then inform a viewer that [Carlson] is not ‘stating actual facts’ about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in ‘exaggeration’ and ‘non-literal commentary.’ ”
In other words, nothing Tucker says should reasonably be believed by his viewers. That is of course assuming that his viewers are reasonable people with critical thinking skills. I think we know by now that’s not the case.
The bit about not taking *ucker seriously came from a different lawsuit a while ago.
You are showing how clueless you are let me guess you watch CNN and believe everything they report
Not true. It never made it to court.
HaHaHaHa
for me it’s good bye fox hello newsmax
I’d LOVE to see Tucker on Newsmax at least I’d be able to watch him. Newsmax allows their fans to watch WITHOUT having to PAY. Now if only Greg Jarrett, Sean, and a few others would go over I’d be REALLY be happy!
I agree FOX use to stand for truth how much did they look for truth?? I’m disappointed in FOX good bye 👋
The truth is that Fox News ran with a falsehood. Donald Trump did not win the election. There was no fraud. Dominion voting machines worked properly. No fraud was found after multiple HAND counts of the votes in the “contested” states.
Georgia’s recount didn’t bring in “extra votes in suitcases” for counting. They were locked and secure Pelican cases that were needed to securely transport millions of paper ballots, because how else should you do it.
There weren’t illegals or other unqualified voters. The only people in the contested states who committed voter fraud voted for Donald Trump.
These are facts that were proven in court, where you have to tell the truth. Trump’s people never provided any evidence of their claims in court, no matter what they said in front of the cameras.
Birds of a feather flock together…
I agree!!! Without Tucker I have no use for fox!!!! Stupid move!!!! I hope this backfires in their faces!!!!
Hopefully Newsmax will have him….they let their followers watch their program at NO CHARGE on their app unlike FOX. I’m watching Newsmax now they’ve got several former FOX people that I REALLY like that I watch, besides FOX is pretty much leaning more left since it was left to his sons and they are married to Democrats.
Shelia, I thought conservative were typically cool with capitalism. Don’t corporations have the right to make a profit by charging for their services?
.
As a moderate (Who is cool with capitalism), I wouldn’t say Fox has begun to lean more left. It’s still squarely to the right of center. They just decided maybe not to parrot Trump as much.
It’s about time. Tucker Carlson’s voice my skin crawl. Nothing that comes out of his mouth should be believed. I’m so glad they finally got rid of him.
Do pepole believe this will make an actual difference in any way shape or form except to his wallet?
There’s nothing wrong with conservative-leaning news. Times of London gets it right. The Telegraph too. WSJ mostly. But Fox News is going way too far. They need to clean house and hit reset.
I agree they need to clean house. There is nothing wrong with conservative leaning news, center or left leaning news as long as the viewers are aware. Fox just out and out lies and far too many don’t believe or even realize it. Fox viewers don’t even know they lost a massive court case and that there are others coming down the pike because Fox doesn’t cover it.
Not true. Fox reported on the case, they just didn’t drone on and on and on ad nauseum about it like the lame stream media who are obsessed with Fox.
*cues up the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s “Messiah”*
–
HOWEVER… what are the chances that he’s going to take his dreck to OANN or Newsmax?
Or worse…show up on the masked singer (they like to bring in people who also did DWTS)
Dear God, *please* let Tucker Carlson start touring the dredges of the reality TV circuit. 🙏🏼
I am going to use 2 two names, a word and a date to give you nightmares for a while.
Trump/Carlson in 2024
Now he will be everywhere
Best news ever.
What was his offense? Lying or despising Trump?
Both!
Lying isn’t a disqualifying offense at Fox. Not being a “true believer” is what got him the sack.
For FOX, neither. He became a liability, and was disavowed. Rupert Murdoch will now deny all knowledge of his activities. Tucker’s FOX email account will self destruct in 5 seconds…
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
/catches breath/
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Ha! Not a wise move. I’ll dump fox to follow Tucker. Sorta bud light of them, tbh
this is what should happen if you knowingly LIE and try to pass off your opinions as actual “facts”
So just wondering should CNN nsnbc and the rest go of line because they lied about the hunter lap top and about the Russia Russia hoax and so on what is the difference 🤔
Please get mental help.
Is there any proof about the Hunter Biden LAPTOP, and just because you write Russia twice does not make it true. Besides what is the Russia Russia Hoax, is it about the invasion, that was proven, is it about their involvement in the victory of Trump over Clinton, the Russians admitted that they manipulated it in favor of Trump.
its about time i cant stand to even look at him. evil evil evil
Same. Cheers, cheers, cheers!!
While it sounds great he will be on something else….the undermining propaganda he spews is so anti democracy, I wonder how anyone can listen to it…he’s a self professed liar….and I say Good Riddance, for now…
You do know that the United States is a Constitutional Republic and not a Democracy right? It is important to know the difference.
Oh yes, please explain. This should be hilarious.
My ultra conservative parents will be a mess. They worshipped that dude.
Tucker Carlson was one of the greatest assets at Fox. I for one, will now be switching to NewsMax, and I believe I will be one among many, many more.
An asset for ratings, yes. But right now he’s a huge liability financially for Fox due to the big differential between what he said on air and what he wrote in work related texts and emails which were admitted into evidence during discovery in the parade of lawsuits still facing Fox. Maybe Fox struck a deal that in firing Carlson, they aren’t libel for what he said on his Fox show. This might help lower Fox’s financial payouts, who knows… And who knows if Tucker might be sued separately now.
Oops, …liable…
May this disgusting excuse of a human being be exiled to the furthest and deepest pits of the dark web, forever known as a cautionary tale that there are indeed consequences for abusing the truth and spewing hate and lies with abandon.
.
That’s about as fair and balanced as I can be about this news. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Best news man ever.
Good by Fox….you axe the best show on TV news. Fox is now woke.
If Tucker leaving Fox somehow suddenly makes them “woke”, then holy crap, your side really has completely warped the definition of that term to an unrecognizable degree. I know things like facts and rational thinking and logic scare people like you, but you should try paying attention to them sometime. You might be surprised what happens.
Now fire the rest of them. Liars.
I think Tucker was becoming a liability because he himself was awakening to the true crimes of the left, and exposing more details than his handlers wanted him to. His original mission was to stir the pot, but in doing that he awakened himself. He did so many good things over the years at Fox, and I’m certain he’ll move upward to some other truth telling agency or start his own to keep enlightening the world and exposing the crimes of the left. Good luck Tucker!
lol okay, man. you may want to adjust your tin foil hat there. Do you guys even realize how insane you sound to the 75% of this country (left, right, and center) still attached to reality?
Boy, you got that right!
He uncovered things even Fox didn’t want to touch. But he was independent of Fox (a contracted show) show so he had the latitude to go out there and talk about things other hosts didn’t dare-Hannity, etc.
Better for Tucker. But I won’t be watching Fox. I gave up on them after they raced to call the election, and Tucker was who I watched; couldn’t care less about the others- now will see where Tucker goes, and find my way there.
Gosh, yes, the truths he exposed about the Biden family was getting too hot to handle. I hope he gets the chance to finish the story. Isn’t it interesting how people who hit a nerve get shut down?
I am really sad to see Tucker Carlson leave Fox news I loved his opinions remember he was an opinion individual. Very intelligent and very smart he will be missed by me Good luck wherever you go probably to NewsMax
hahah Newmax can’t afford him. They can’t afford to pay him and they can’t afford the lawsuits that he brings with him. Good luck in your search for another Russian propagandist.
Very intelligent man pushes testicle tanning.
Yes I see your point.
I was trained as a journalist in the early 1980s before insane salaries, cable news giants, and celebrity reporters. I have no qualms with a slant anywhere on the conservative and liberal spectrum. I do take offense to messing with facts and deliberate lies. It’s just not Fox News but the election denials in light of proof and truth is egregious.
