The devil’s in the (contract) details: Lucifer‘s Tom Ellis, has finalized a new deal to continue raising hell as the show’s title character in a potential sixth season, TVLine has learned exclusively. News of the actor’s extension all but clears the way for the series’ Season 6 renewal at Netflix. Last week, co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson inked new Season 6 deals. Meanwhile, many — if not all — of Ellis’ co-stars have existing deals that carry them through Season 6.
As TVLine exclusively reported earlier this month, Netflix is in talks with Warner Bros. Television to extend the supernatural-tinged procedural’s lifespan beyond the previously announced (and forthcoming) fifth and “final” season.
After airing for three seasons on Fox, Lucifer was “rescued” by Netflix in June 2018, just weeks after its cancellation. At the time, titular star Ellis called the backlash to the cancellation — and subsequent #SaveLucifer campaign — “nothing short of ridiculously overwhelming,” adding, “Since doing Lucifer, I’ve done press in various parts of the world, and I’m fully aware that this show is much more popular than what it had seemed to be on Fox… So I’m not surprised about people being angry. I just wasn’t ready this tsunami of love that came with it.” [pmc_inline_gallery]
The 10-episode fourth season — released on Netflix in May 2019 — found the titular devil dealing with both a pesky priest and the return of his very first girlfriend, Eve. One month later, Netflix announced that it had renewed Lucifer for a concluding fifth season, which is currently in its final weeks of production.
Season 5 will consist of 16 episodes that will air in two separate, eight-episode chunks (premiere date TBD).
Reps for Netflix and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment for this story.
This sounds even more promising now. Lucifer is one of my favorite shows. So I’ll take as many seasons as possible! And with Tom Ellis signing on it all but confirms the show will get a 6th season. The fans (including Kelly Clarkson) helped make it happen! So glad people actually listened.
What wonderful news!!!! I never thought I could go gaga over the devil, of all things, yet I am so totally hooked I cannot bring myself to watch anything else! I binge Lucifer over and over and over and over… and cannot stop. Gimme more Lucifer! And more after that! And still more after that! And…
I’m sorry but could someone please help me and explain what was mentioned in the article? My eyes haven’t recovered after glimpsing the header photo 🤤
I have the same problem, too! I only peeled my eyes away from that photo just long enough to write this. I’ll drink to that!
🥂
I don’t like to hear a lot of nonsense about Lucifer about the number 5. Everyone says it co.es out on the March 9 now it’s March 29 where bad promotion for Lucifer.
No premiere date for Season 5 has ever been reported by a legitimate news site.
I am so happy to hear
this. Love Lucifer!!
Great news! I just hope that 1. the intended season 5 series finale fits still. and 2. they make sure it doesn’t have a bad ending if season 6 is the last.
I feel the same way. Some people just want more smarmy devil, but I actually would like and expect a bit more from my story telling on TV.
Maybe they can finally give Chloe a dang (damn?) arc and flesh out her character more outside of that frenetically implausible back half of season 3. Give her a couple episodes dedicated to her like Ella had. Please. Your series recurring character shouldn’t have more character-focused episodes than one of your lead.
I look FWD to more Lucifer… Especially if we get more celestial stuff and more of Lucifer interacting with the others.. And not attached to Chloe or some other live interest at the hip
Yes!!! More Lucifer!! Thank you Netflix!! ❤️😈😈😈😈
When is the release of Lucifer’s show?
Great to hear!!
Yes!!! This makes me so happy!
Thank you so much for keeping us up to date with Lucifer news! I’m hoping we get an official renewal soon.
I hope they more seasons love the show
Cool!
This made my night! I have been a fan of Lucifer since it came out on FOX and I send thousands of emails! I’m thrilled they will continue Lucifer! It’s really the best show on Netflix!
What about Lauren German as the show is an ensemble cast
“Meanwhile, many — if not all — of Ellis’ co-stars have existing deals that carry them through Season 6.”
.
Reading comprehension. The more you know. *shooting star farting a rainbow*
Nice photo :)
Netflix is smart. Lucifer was the most streamed show in 2019. They know this is good money. As long as they keep the quality, I’m totally on board.
Certainly makes more sense than ending in season 5. I couodn’t understand it. It beat Game of Thrones as the most streamed show of the season. What more would they have to do?
Hi
So nice
Hail, Satan!
Oh, wait. Wrong show.
Still, what a great crossover that could be. The real devil (Luci) finds out one of his wayward demons has been pretending to be him all this time getting worshipped by foolish mortals and heads to Riverdale to sirt it all out…
Hey! its OK. At least you spelled Satan right. I saw a few posts on another site where people spelled it Satin…like the material. LOL I hope its a renewal and not a spinoff or movie or something else.
Woa thank you Netflix more Lucifer please. I just can’t get enough of that series
I just did a happy dance all around my house!!!
I just hope after all these teases about season 6 there actually will be season 6. Because if not there will be lot of angry fans who would feel cheated, because all these articles give them false hope .
We are looking forward to seeing seasons 5 and 6….#lucifans #fallin1
So Tom Ellis was not under contract for season 6 but his co-stars were? Weird.
It’s not weird it’s business. Signing a contract that doesn’t cover a longer period of time gives you negotiating power if said show becomes popular enough down the road. I guarantee you he will be making a lot more than before and a lot more than if he had signed a 6 season contract.
When will the new season of Lucifer start on Netflix?
