The Good Doctor will be down a series regular this fall.
TVLine can confirm that Brandon Larracuente, who plays Dr. Danny Perez, will not be returning to the ABC medical drama on a full-time basis for Season 7. However, an insider tells us that he could return as a guest star.
Per Deadline, Larracuente has already booked a leading role in Dick Wolf’s forthcoming Prime Video drama On Call, starring opposite Pretty Little Liars alum Troian Bellisario.
Larracuente’s Dr. Perez made his debut in Season 6’s second episode, alongside Savannah Welch’s Dr. Danica “Danni” Powell. He was quickly elevated to series regular, while fellow newbie Welch was was written out after nine episodes, when Powell was fired from the residency program.
Perez was quickly established as a love interest for Bria Samoné Henderson’s Dr. Jordan Allen, but a number of obstacles prevented them from pursuing a relationship. Those included the recent return of Dr. Jared Kalu, which set in motion a surprise love triangle. But the biggest hurdle of all had been Perez’s opioid addiction. Though he initially had his demons under control, he relapsed in Season 6’s fall finale, and has since been strictly focused on maintaining his sobriety.
The Good Doctor — which secured a Season 7 renewal earlier this month — wraps its sixth season on Monday, May 1 (at 10/9c). In the episode, titled “Love’s Labor,” Shaun and Lea are heading to the delivery room and everyone from the hospital is also there — except for one very important person. Meanwhile, a tragic accident involving Drs. Perez and Kalu pulls everyone away, including Dr. Murphy.
The cast currently consists of Freddie Highmore (as medical extraordinaire Dr. Shaun Murphy), Hill Harper (as Dr. Marcus Andrews), Richard Schiff (as Dr. Aaron Glassman), Christina Chang (as Dr. Audrey Lim), Fiona Gubelmann (as Dr. Morgan Reznick), Will Yun Lee (as Dr. Alex Park), Paige Spara (as Lea Dilallo), Noah Galvin (as Dr. Asher Wolke), Henderson and Larracuente.
No word yet on a pickup for prospective spinoff The Good Lawyer; a backdoor pilot starring Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman first aired March 13 and earned a TVLine reader grade of “A-.” As previously reported, the offshoot is still very much in play for a series pickup, and a decision will be made in the coming weeks.
Are you sad to see Brandon Larracuente scrub out ahead of Season 7? Sound off in Comments.
Pick up The Good Lawyer!!!
Yes yes yes… totally agree
I really liked his character wtf.
What is it with this show? It’s like a revolving door.
He will lead a new show.
From the producers of “House,” which was much more of a revolving door.
Most of the core cast stayed through atleast the 7th season though, with Lisa E being the major actress to leave before the final season.
Jennifer Morris had a bigger role in the first three seasons. She was demoted in season 4 and left in 6.
I figured he wouldn’t be back. He hasn’t really done much of anything since his character overdosed.
There really isn’t anything to do with him anymore. And to be honest, the cast is big enough as it is.
Probably gonna lose Hill Harper (Andrews to politics.) But otherwise I agree. Plus they will probably bring in a new resident next year anyway.
Have to wonder where Good Dr will land next season. With ABC having Monday night football throughout the fall?
Liked him and Jordan. How could the writers do this??? Poor Jordan. Like no one can be happy on this show
This set must be one of the worst in Hollywood. They can’t keep anyone.
A lot of great shows have lost people who want to do new things. Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, Cheers, etc. And British shows lose stars constantly. Call the Midwife, Spooks, and Grantchester to name a few. It certainly doesn’t mean that behind the scenes, the shows are terrible.
The people at Grey’s Anatomy have openly admitted the set was a nightmare during the first six seasons and around season eleven. After that, well, 19 seasons is a long time not to have cast turnover. British series have very different contracts and are basically are negotiated per year. Did the Office have that high of a cast turnover? The Good Doctor has had more series regulars that left than that remain.
Well the season finale trailer didn’t bode well for Danny, so I assumed he was being written out.
Another reason why the show needs to end next season is that they can’t keep actors. Having a revolving door of residents makes no sense. Don’t residents usually stay with their chosen hospital until the end of their residencies?
You mean, they should have matched the paycheck he will got as co-lead in the Wolf’s show, to keep him as simple sophomore supporting regular in TGD?
No one would do that. He had an opportunity, he took it, good for him.
no please it’s too soon…am always looking forward in seeing him every week 😔
No loss here. Trying to put him and Lauren together kinda ruined it for me. They had absolutely no chemistry whatsoever.
This is one piece of news they should not have revealead until after Monday’s episode. Considering the trailer for the episode, this can be considered a spoiler.
This shouldn’t be a surprise. This character was used to create a storyline for one of the regulars. If they kept on adding main characters, we wouldn’t see any of the other cast members.
Benjamin bratt for Dr lim
He was my favorite character. Why do they have to kick off the good characters?
He’s leaving for another show it’s why chede iwachu left after season 1 because he was a series regular on the final 3 seasons of the 100 as jacob
I love his character. I never felt they were a great love match cause he was just too pretty for her.
Agreed. And now we’re used to a hot male resident on GD. ;)
For Dick Wolf to pick him up is great for Brandon Larracuente’s career. While it was nice to see him back on The Good Doc, I’m happy for him for getting on Wolf’s Team.
This show is notorious for dropping cast members. Wow! I sure hope Glassman doesn’t bite the dust. He is an integral member of the show.
The guy was useless
It is not necessary to kill this many people on a tv show. They will kill him or he will kill a patient. Becoming less invested in this after Melendez was killed was the right decision.
Why I want to see them two get together. Please don’t leave
I love him on this show. He’s so kind and a good regular. 🥺
