Is recovering alcoholic Becky ready to make a love connection? [pmc_inline_gallery]
TVLine can exclusively reveal that The Conners has cast Sean Astin (The Goonies, the Lord of the Rings trilogy) as Tyler, a potential match for Lecy Goranson‘s Becky. He’ll appear in Season 5’s third-to-last episode, airing Wednesday, April 19 (ABC, 8/7c), when Jackie and Louise try to help Dan’s eldest daughter meet a new guy.
In our exclusive sneak peek, Becky and Tyler are seen at the Lobo Lounge — not to worry, Becky’s nursing a soda! — where they discuss their shared desire to find someone they actually like and skip past the “getting to know you” phase of the relationship.
It’s no secret that Becky has struggled to move on in the years since Mark’s death. Though his passing was referenced several times during 2018’s Roseanne revival — Darlene and David named their son in his honor — it was never revealed how he passed. It wasn’t until The Conners‘ third season that the spinoff explained that Mark died in a freak motorcycle accident.
As such, Becky has stayed (mostly) single. She briefly entertained a romance with baby daddy Emilio, but their relationship fizzled out before it truly got underway. There was also Wyatt, a Green Bay Packers fan that Chicago Bears fan Dan nearly chased out of the house in Season 2, and former high school classmate Mikey, who was last seen at Dan and Louise’s wedding in Season 4.

What happened Rudy?
If by that you mean, how did you get to be such a great, down-to-earth, grounded-seeming guy, who delights in almost every role he plays, then I think his acting speaks for itself. Otherwise, I can’t imagine what specific event/result you’re alluding to with that question.
If he plays as nice and fun as his Bob character in Stranger Things was, he’ll be a welcome addition to the show. Loved him in ST. Hope the Conners don’t ruin him like they seem to be doing to Ben, even if they can’t help it.
That wasn’t meant to be a reply, sorry. Tried to make a new comment.
I love Sean Astin. It would be great if this works out for Becky. She’s due.
that’s awesome hope he sticks around
The Conners needs to be a full hour long because these forkin’ 21 minute shows aren’t enough time to address all of the characters in this show and make the show feel crammed and rushed.
So true, it’s so short and half the time no show. Why can’t you give us episodes every week?
Love Sean! Hope it works.
I’ve always felt Lecy Goranson is underrated as an actress. I think she is great on this show. Rudy, you got all big on us, but that’s cool. Looking forward to watching this storyline.
I would like to know why it seems like every other week- no show! What the heck?? And the show seems very short too. Why is it off so often? It’s very disappointing. No show this week again!
Simple math offers us the answer. If a show has roughly 5 months worth of new episodes ordered to air over a standard 9 month tv season, 4 total months of no new programming is an absolute given during those specific months. Some do it in the annoying way that that the Connors and many other shows do it and some split seasons like Greys does which has the months off happening all at once. Then there was the 24 model which had a huge gap between seasons, but then aired everything over a few month period. No matter what there will be complaints. The days of network shows having 30 episode seasons ended decades ago.
math dictates a total of a few months off during the months of September through May
I apologize for the blatant lack of editing.
I love SeanAustin. This could be a great match.. I hope so because I am so tired of Becky… she needs something in her life besides school and hanging out with her daughter who can’t act, by the way
I agree he is a good man for Becky .she needs someone in her life to lift her up love the character’s together.
Hope he sticks around. Love Sean Astin, as an actor and a person. Becky is long overdue for some happiness.
You forgot about the relationship between Becky and her professor played by Matt Walsh.
There’s nothing Sean Astin can’t do. He has excelled in every role I’ve ever seen him in. But I gotta say I’m sad to see him in this show. But on the bright side, maybe he’ll make it watchable.
I love this actually i like that he is just a normal guy which is what she needs.
Becky and Tyler, yes please!
Was that Patricia Richard’s playing his mom? She looks familiar. She was uncredited
I like Sean Austin! Yes! I think he and Alicia would make a great long term couple! Both are great actors! Two thumbs up!
Becky and Tyler could be a good match since he has a psycho mother
Shawn will be the best ! He will bring more laughter, joy, and fun loving entertainment to this really great show.
Yes! Make it happen ! You won’t regret it!
Yes! Love Sean Austin and I think they’ll be perfect together!
