It’s now official: Katey Sagal has closed a deal to return The Conners in Season 2 — and she’s poised to make another play for John Goodman‘s widower Dan. [pmc_inline_gallery]
The Married With Children alum is reprising her Season 1 guest-star role of Louise, a former high school friend of Dan and Roseanne’s who left Lanford to pursue a career in music. Now back in town and tending bar at Casa Bonita, Louise pursued Dan in last season’s 8th episode, but her advances were rebuffed. Given the length of Sagal’s return — she is set to appear in 10 of Season 2’s 19 episodes — it stands to reason that Louise will have more luck the second time around.
“We’re taking it slow,” showrunner Bruce Helford says of a potential Dan-Louise romance. “She wants a relationship. She wants romance. She is not giving up. But Dan is still having difficulty. He’s struggling with whether he’d be betraying [Roseanne] if he does move toward someone else. And can he ever find that feeling with anybody else?”
Last January, on the eve of the Roseanne spinoff’s Season 1 finale, star and EP Sara Gilbert gushed about Sagal’s “amazing” performance, adding that she would “love to have her back” in a then-potential Season 2.
The Conners‘ second season debuts Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c. Sagal’s comeback will kick off in Episode 3.
I do not miss Roseanne. THE CONNERS really does stand on its own. And Ms. Sagal seems a perfect fit for a sustained story arc. Brava!
If you can watch this show without noticing the big void left by Roseanne, you just might be suffering from selective outrage.
you are LYING to yourself. it is NOT the same without her, don’t get me wrong, its still good but doesn’t even compare. dan and Jackie fed off Roseanne, and now they don’t have her and they are kind of boring.
It’s all subjective I liked Roseanne a lot too. I’m perfectly fine with the Conners and the show moving on without Roseanne and thought they did a good job.
This makes me happy. I was hoping she will return. Katey is a perfect choice.
I really liked their interaction last season, so whether platonic or romantic, I’m all for seeing what happens with them :).
Me too!!
What ABC/Disney did to this revival and to Roseanne Barr’s career over that one tweet in May 2018 is an absolute disgrace, and the way this matter is being swept under the rug now is an even bigger one. All because Roseanne is a Trump supporter/conservative. I’m so sick of the never-ending double standard on this network and that hateful one-sided liberal trash like The View is given a free pass all the time. A good number of people I know who support Trump refuse to watch anything on ABC ever again, and I’m sure there’s more where that came from.
To think, ABC has no problem completely alienating roughly half the country, even if it means an audience roughly a third the size of what it was before, and earning much less ad revenue.
Number 1 new show last year. It had nothing to do with her being a Trump supporter they knew that when the show came back. The first episode was brilliantly done about families being torn apart by the election and played both sides perfectly. They also then went on to renew the show for a second season still knowing she supported Trump. Then she made that stupid ignorant tweet. So please tell me where her being a a Trump supporter had anything to do with their decision.
You must work for ABC or Disney. Not falling for the pathetic spin. Even though The Conners (what a joke!) was the “number 1 new show last year”, the ratings were down at least 50-60% from what they were compared to when Roseanne was on the sequel. That merely shows how pathetic the numbers for ABC’s other shows were (perhaps due to boycotting by tons of Trump supporters?).
And what Roseanne sent on her own social media account with that so-called “stupid ignorant tweet” about Valerie Jarrett was absolutely nothing compared to the vile, vicious, hateful anti-Trump propaganda coming out of the foul mouths of Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg on The View or Jimmy Kimmel’s tasteless jokes on late night TV on ABC’s airwaves. So how come none of them are ever punished and The View stays on the air? The numbers for those shows are microscopic compared to Roseanne 2.0 at first.
I don’t believe for one second that Roseanne’s conservative political leaning was not a factor in that whole rotten situation.
Nope I work for Walmart I just have common sense. And it wasn’t just ABC’S number 1 new comedy it was TVs number 1 new comedy of last year. And the point of the view is for them to share their point of view hence the name. If you don’t agree with their point of view stick to fox news. Someone commented below that sean spicer was cast on dancing with the stars. You may think it was because she’s a Trump supporter unfortunately there’s zero facts to back that up just your own speculation.
ABC knew Roseanne was a Trump supporter when they brought the show back originally, though? And they’re letting Sean Spicer-you know, a former member of the Trump administration-be a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars” this season.
.
But sure. Trump supporters/conservatives are totally being unfairly targeted. Mmhm.
.
Also, “roughly half the country” is quite the generous estimate.
The following is just my opinion and I am not trying to argue or change anyone else’s feelings.
As glad as I am that The Connors are continuing, it would be so much better with Rosanne back where she belongs. The show revolved around the Rosanne character and nobody can bring as much to that show as Rosanne Barr. I also think she got a really bad deal…when so many other celebrities have done and said much worse without near the consequences given her.
Neither the reboot nor The Connors is as good as the original. Having said that, I will continue to watch The Connors. ABC missed an opportunity to have different guest stars portray the matriarch instead of killing her off. They could have had loads of fun with it and only referred to the character as “honey”, “mom”, and “sis”. I for one would have loved seeing a myriad of actors in that role from week to week. Helen Mirren one week, John Malkovich the next, followed by Cher. That would have been something.
The whole feel of the show isn’t the same. It’s like a whole new sit-com. I don’t see Darlene in Darlene, I don’t see Dan in Dan, I don’t see Jackie in Jackie. These characters just aren’t hitting their mark. Too watered down. They lost their edge. I think they have too many new people behind the scenes that never worked on the original Roseanne. Maybe some left during that period when no one knew if the show would go on after the infamous tweet. So new writers are making stories that belong more on ‘Friends’ or ‘Fuller House,’ It’s just isn’t working for me on ‘The Conners.’
The only way to achieve happiness is to cherish what you have and forget what you don’t have
My comment :I haven’t seen the beginning of these espiodes will they put on old season espiodes until next new season comes around. also have they ever thought about putting the cornners on (free apps) pluto tv,crackle tv maybe imdb tv
There is no show w/o Roseanne. She thought it up…. it’s hers. Cancel, the Connors. And that brat that got her TV shot because of Roseanne, shut up.
