Sing along with us now: “I… was… working hard at a New York job, making dough but it made me blue. One day I was crying a lot and so I decided to move to West Covina, Calif., brand-new house and new career. It happens to be where Josh lives, but that’s not why I’m heeeeeeeeeere!”
Yes, Rebecca Bunch is a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and when Season 2 premieres in October, she’ll probably still be so broken insiiiiiiiiide — but she’ll also have a whole new opening credits sequence.
“The credits sequences, for us, are the thematic thesis statements of the season,” series co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna tells TVLine. “Last year was all about denial. Last year was all about ‘Josh just happens to live here.”
But given the events of the Season 1 finale — Josh broke up with longtime girlfriend Valencia, had sex with Rebecca and then looked perplexed when she confessed that she’d uprooted her life and moved across country just to be near him — “now the cat is out of the bag about why she happens to be in town,” the EP says.
“Them having slept together, Rebecca goes from being unsure about him to absolute certainty,” she adds, previewing that the new ditty will reflect Ms. Bunch’s notion of the pair skipping happily off into the sunset.
Wanting to preserve the surprise, McKenna wouldn’t divulge much more, except to say that the songwriters and choreographer “crushed it.”
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend returns on Friday, Oct. 21 (9/8c) on The CW.
