Boy Band ABC

ABC Competition Boy Band Recruits Rita Ora, Nick Carter and Baby Spice

ABC is looking to shape the future of pop music with a little help from those who came before.

At the network’s upfront presentation on Tuesday, it was announced that songstress Rita Ora — fresh off a one-season stint as the host of America’s Next Top Model on VH1 — will host Boy Band, a reality singing competition premiering Thursday, June 22 at 8/7c.

Additionally, Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter and Spice Girls’ Emma Bunton will join the series as “architects,” which are described as “experts who will guide contestants throughout their journey to stardom.”

As if all of the above wasn’t enough, Carter ended Tuesday’s presentation by reuniting with his fellow Backstreet Boys for a performance of — what else? — “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

Is the added star power of Ora, Carter and Bunton enough to get you amped for Boy Band? Video of the Backstreet Boys’ performance will be added if it becomes available, but in the meantime, drop a comment with your thoughts below.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

Baby was always my favorite Spice Girl, but she goes by Emma Bunton now. She has a solo career and everything.

  2. Van says:

We couldn’t leave nick Carter in 1999 where he belongs?

    • Star says:

Nick Carter never went away… His band has had many hits since 1999. And is still going strong today. Apparently it’s you who is left in 1999.

    • Jacquelyn Simone says:

Love the show. Nick Carter is great as an architect. He give great feedback to the “boys”. His constructive criticism is spot on.

  3. Dana F says:

Love Nick Carter he is so talented incredible down to earth my fav proud fan4ever I’ll watch in a heartbeat to see him on there

  4. steven says:

I would replace Rita with a member of Nsync. Another pop veteran would be better than a pop nobody. Just sayin’.

    • Krewbie says:

Seriously! What were they thinking??? Bring in JC from Nsync and blow the ratings through the roof!

  5. Piers says:

    Is TV Groundhog Day?

  6. Pat says:

ABC….1995 called and they want their concept back….

  7. ninergrl6 says:

I was 100% planning on watching this show because I am a fan of boy bands of all eras. Nick Carter, my all-time favorite boy band member, is the icing on the cake. KTBSPA

  8. Kmg says:

This may be the worst concept for a “talent competition” show in history. Boy bands became nothing but a punch line about 15 years ago, the host and judges are (at best) B-list talent, and ABC has yet to air a successful competition show. I expect it to be in the running for “first new show to be canceled” in the fall.

  9. Someone says:

So a reboot of Making The Band? At least this one won’t have Lou Perlman.

  10. Linda baker says:

Add bts performance or exo or any Korean group

  11. Karin says:

I thought the show was great. I am interested in who they pick for a boy band. There are some extremely talented guys. Great entertainment for me.

  12. Tia West says:

I”m just wondering if any one has noticed that one of the judges whom was a ex spice girl always critizes the black contestants more than the white ones
