Arrested Development: Jason Bateman Officially Signs on for Season 5

Arrested Development fans, it’s very probable you have good reason to freak out right now. (Frozen bananas for everyone!)

Star Jason Bateman has officially signed on for a fifth season of the Netflix comedy, and says it’s “very probable” they’ll begin shooting this summer:

Bateman stars as Michael, the hapless voice of reason within the dysfunctional Bluth family, on the Emmy-winning comedy that ran for three low-rated seasons on Fox (2003-06) before being revived for a fourth season on Netflix in 2013. Reaction to the fourth season was decidedly mixed, since it separated the Bluth clan into their own standalone episodes. But Season 5 looks to avoid that by incorporating a heavy dose of flashbacks to the Bluths in younger years (played by different actors), so the original cast members have more time to appear in scenes together.

Season 5 has seemed like a foregone conclusion for months now — producer Brian Grazer said back in January they were busy nailing down deals with the cast — but it still hasn’t received the official greenlight from Netflix. Of course, the main cast is plenty busy, with Bateman’s co-stars Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent), Tony Hale (Veep), Portia de Rossi (Scandal), Will Arnett (BoJack Horseman), Jessica Walter (Archer), David Cross (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Alia Shawkat (Search Party) all appearing on other TV shows at the moment. (And hey, Michael Cera’s on the new Twin Peaks, too, actually!)
