Cat Grant Returns to Supergirl: What to Expect From Her 'Emotional' Episodes

“Good evening, National City,” booms a familiar — and sorely missed — voice in the promo for Supergirl‘s May 15 episode (The CW, 8/7c). “I’ve been away for a while, but I’m back.”

Calista Flockhart‘s Cat Grant returns for the final two episodes of the series’ second season, during which “Kara has to make some brutally emotional decisions,” executive Andrew Kreisberg tells TVLine. And who better to give the Girl of Steel the pep talk she needs than her former boss?

“Cat and Clark, while they have their own storylines and their own reasons for being [in National City], they’re there to emotionally support our hero,” Kreisberg continues. “What’s great about these episodes is that Cat actually gets to do some things she’s never done before. But she also gets to perform the role that she always has, being a mentor and a role model — not just for Supergirl, but also for Kara.”

As he notes, “Supergirl and Kara have different storylines. In the finale, both aspects of her character are going on separate journeys. Cat and Superman are there to help both of them.”

Why is Lena in that red princess dress? Is she gonna be marrying Mon-El?

  2. Jesse says:

Love Callista! So excited she’s back for the finale.

  3. Jane Q. Doe says:

Having Cat Grant back may redeem this disappointing season – she has been sorely missed! Hopefully they use her wisely.

Calista brings so much to this role and ups the game of everyone around her. It may be wishful thinking, but fingers crossed she actually does some press for the last 2 eps.

  4. drb999 says:

I’ve really missed the prescence of Calista Flockhart/Cat Grant this season so I’m glad she’s back, I hope they reveal that Cat knows that Kara is Supergirl.

  5. George H. says:

To be honest, Callista is part of what made Supergirl season 1 fun to watch. Haven’t actually watched any Supergirl this season past the 12th or 13th episode. Just wasn’t feeling it.

  6. Brian says:

I don’t know, for me, this show gets good when they use the veteran actors like Calista, Teri Hatcher, Dean Cain, etc.. Without them, episodes are much more hit or miss.

  7. Phun says:

So glad Cat is back for the final 2 episodes! It’s going to be EPIC.

  8. Agent 86 says:

I’m very glad that Cat Grant is returning to National City. I hope that her first action is to demote Jimmy back down to being a photographer or even to fire him (which would leave him free to join the DEO as an agent).
After that, she needs to have a serious talk with Kara about letting a relationship consume her life and become her sole purpose.
And then she can flirt with Clark Kent, since that is completely understandable, perhaps with the assistance of a camera close-up on Clark’s best physical assets.
Finally, Cat can take care of Rhea, put Lena Luthor back on the right track to redeeming the Luthor name and give Kara some career advice, acknowledging that Kara’s already has a career as Supergirl (since Cat Grant clearly knows that Kara is Supergirl).

  9. Kel says:

Wow, that article told us absolutely nothing….lol

  10. Kel says:

Haven’t really missed Cat, but it will be good to have her back for a couple of episodes. :)

  11. Jack says:

By the way – when will they have Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain’s characters interact with one another? Wouldn’t it be a missed opportunity to have Lois & Clark on the same show and not to have a scene or two together?

  12. Nicole says:

So why is it everytime that Calista Flockhart guest stars does she always have this glossy lighting framed around her face? She is like a walking air brush of perfection. Is it apart of her contract that she must be lit up like xmas tree in post or she walks? Asking for a friend

  13. kort says:

Geez, Calista Flockhart still with this CGI-cleaned face… It’s such a disappointment.

  14. fly says:

Some people seem to forget the show isn’t called Cat Grant.

  15. Chris says:

I miss the character. Since they moved production to Canada I don’t think she wanted to commute. I don’t think that she and Harrison need the $$$ lol

  16. D says:

As long as part of the reason she is back is to tell Kara to drop the male equivalent of rubbish i’ll be happy.

  17. George says:

Cat Grant was one of the best character actors in the show.
