Supergirl Superman Returns

Supergirl Season Finale: Tyler Hoechlin (Finally) Returning as Superman

Supergirl is plotting a(nother) family reunion for its second season finale — and something tells us the fans are really going to like this one.

Tyler Hoechlin, who first appeared as Clark Kent/Superman in the second season premiere, will return for the CW drama’s upcoming finale, E! Online reports. Specific details surrounding his return are not yet available.

Of course, Hoechlin’s return is just the latest piece of exciting casting news to come out of the sophomore series; Katie McGrath (aka Lena Luthor) was recently promoted to series regular for Season 3.

  1. Wasn’t it horrible enough the first time around?

  2. Roger Buchana says:

Hopefully for a short time. The show has a bad habit of not knowing how to treat their series regulars. Mon-El and Alex have dominated a lot of character development. Jimmy is just there and they flipped the trope with Winn. Case in point, Kara feels stale. Her losing her job was the most interesting thing in a long time.

Hopefully, Superman shows up for a short bit to put the focus back clearly on Kara.

    • Calista Flockhart says:

I couldn’t agree more. Kara on the show is nothing like she is in the books. On the show, the producers made her the female Clark Kent…immense boredom. They whine about not capturing their target male demograph, then they focus on Alex and her lover. Then the strongest woman on earth’s fight choreography doesn’t even match that of Arrow’s.

Cue the “I wish it were Cat Grant” comments now

    • Daniel says:

Sorry Cat Grant made season 1. You DON’T NEED all these cheap aliens, explosions, and special effects to make a good show. Some of the best scenes from season 1 were Kara and Cat sitting in her office… just talking. Lena is a pale imitation of Cat Grant. She’d lose her mind if she knew what Jimmy was doing to her office.

      • fly says:

cat grant was great in season 1 but explosions and special effects is part of a superhero show.

      • Rex the Wonder Dog says:

It wouldn’t be a sci-fi/superhero show without cheap aliens, explosions, and special effects. It would just be Parks and Recreation or 30 Rock.

    • Laney says:

      She’s back too.

  4. Dominique says:

    Yes!!
Tyler exceeded all my expectations, he was absolutely terrific as both Clark and Superman and I’m so excited to see him back again!

    • Crystal says:

I totally agree with you. Tyler has actually been much better than I would have ever thought. He as Clark Kent/Superman has been a great addition.

  5. Alison says:

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!! Allllllllll the praise hands.

  6. Phillip says:

There needs to be a Superman spinoff already!!

    • Crystal says:

YES! And I would totally and faithfully watch it.

    • Rex the Wonder Dog says:

What would you get with a Superman spin-off that you aren’t already getting with Supergirl? All you’d really get would be a show about a male version of Supergirl.
What exactly would be any different?

  7. jason says:

he’s there to ask why karas bf looks so much like him

  8. T.W.S.S. says:

We honestly don’t need him, but I’d be down if he brings Lois for a one-episode visit.

  9. Max says:

It’s about time! And it should be as a precursor to a spinoff series for him.

    • opus says:

I agree completely!! Tyler was so good as Superman; the very least they should do is use him more often, but giving him his own show would be even better!!

  10. Joey Padron says:

Happy Tyler is coming back for season finale! Can’t wait to see Clark/Superman on the show again!

  11. Michele says:

Give him the spin off already and let’s get back to any kind of real character development for Kara and James. I love the addition of Lena and Maggie but Kara has been reduced to supporting character on her own show and James would be better off moving back to Metropolis at this point for all that they use him.

    • Crystal says:

What was it that made them break up James and Kara anyway? These two are the ones that I am rootin’ for.

I have got to get some Supergirl comics to catch up with the way things should progress. I love this show and would like to read the comics in which this is based.

  12. Michael Scheu says:

When Mon is inevitably shunted off to the Phantom Zone for 1000 years we will surely get back to character development for the main cast ;)

  13. Jared says:

About time! Tyler is great on Supergirl

  14. Good. When the TV universe ends with a Crisis adaptation of some kind we need to feel his pain

  15. Cool.liked him in this role
