Riverdale Episode 10 Molly Ringwald Mary Luke Perry Fred

Riverdale First Look: Molly Ringwald Debuts as Archie's Mom Mary

Another iconic redhead is about to set foot in the town of Riverdale.

’80s teen idol Molly Ringwald joins The CW’s moody Archie reboot for the April 13 episode (9/8c), guest-starring as Archie’s absent-until-now mom Mary. The network released a bunch of new Riverdale photos on Tuesday, giving us a first look at the dream casting. (Now we know where Archie got his hair tint from.)

In the episode, entitled “The Lost Weekend,” Mary returns to Riverdale to finalize her divorce from Archie’s dad Fred (Luke Perry). As you can imagine, Archie’s not thrilled about this development, but he “hides his true feelings,” according to the official episode description. (Maybe he can write a song about it?)

But while she’s in town, will Mary find out about Fred’s ongoing affair with Veronica’s mom Hermione? And is there any way she’s somehow entangled in the Jason Blossom murder-mystery? If you’ve been watching this show, you should know by now that nobody‘s hands are clean in this town.

I sort of suspect it also has something to do with Fred probably suggesting it as a good time because also Archie might need some additional parental guidance right now.

  2. Azerty says:

Archie needs to get more involved in the Jason’s murder investigations. His stories never interest me enough on the contrary to Jughead and Betty who are in the middle of it and are very interesting characters. Archie is supposed to be the main character but he always seems to be in the B storyline. That feels weird.

    • Wrstlgirl says:

I agree, I don’t see Archie as the lead at all. He never really does anything.

    • Dom says:

The show is called RIVERDALE. Not Archie. I’m fine with his B role status. Maybe next season?

      • Mark Bane says:

It does feel weird, b/c the first 3 episodes were Archie-heavy, giving the impression that he was the lead. But after Miss Grundy was gone, there goes interest in Archie…

I don’t mind it, b/c the other characters –Betty, Jughead, Veronica, Kevin — are also very interesting (if no moreso). It just leaves a weird taste in your mouth to think one thing and then find out that it turns out another way. (Like eating a macaroni-and-cheese, but then it feels like okra once it’s in your stomach.)

*It’s kind of like people who started watching GOTHAM just because they thought it was about “Batman.”

  3. Brian says:

I prefer the other characters over Archie, so i’m not bothered by him being in the B-list storylines.

  4. DreamRose311 says:

Is it just me, or does this show nail the casting? At least with the parents for sure.

  5. steven says:

I hope this mom is nicer than the other moms on this show.

  6. Scribe says:

Thank God, at least it explains where he got that red hair (other than the worse dye job in creation..oh wait a minute Jason Bloom…)

  7. Thomas Christian Hirko says:

Wonderful casting , who doesn’t love the Molly trilogy of the 80′
