Nashville's Full Season 5 Trailer Is Here, Plus: CMT Sets Premiere Sneak Peek

You Nashville fans must’ve been on your best behavior this year, because CMT wrapping up Rayna Jaymes & Co. with a big bow and giving ’em to you early.

The cable network, which picked up the country-music drama after ABC cancelled it in May, has released its first full trailer for the upcoming fifth season. Even better: CMT will air the first half of the two-hour season premiere as a sneak peek on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 9/8c.  (As previously reported, the full season premiere will debut on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 9/8c, but y’all might as well set your DVRs now, right?)

As will be the case during the regular season, the sneak-peek first hour will be available to stream on Hulu one day after it airs on the network.

The video above, which is an extended version of the teaser released in November, recaps the end of the drama’s tumultuous fourth season (Maddie emancipated! Scarlett and Gunnar getting fired! Avery turning his back on Juliette!) and then throws us right into the new stuff. Among the highlights:

* Rayna drapes herself over Deacon in bed and says, “I want us to write our story.”

* But later, we see her emphatically warn someone (pleasedon’tletitbeDeacon), “I’m not gonna fall into this trap with you!”

* Maddie inquires about a charismatic guy (played by Legends of Tomorrow‘s Joseph David-Jones) she later winds up kissing.

* Scarlett looks wary during a meeting at the label after Rayna says, “Let’s release another single. Let’s keep the eyes and ears on you.”

* Rayna presides over a video shoot. (Is that Scarlett standing on the table?)

* Kevin appears unhappy while standing in the crowd at one of Will’s shows.

* Re: the previous bullet — maybe that’s because Murray Bartlett’s Jakob Fine is very hands-on while smoothing a new suit coat over Will in another scene?

* Scarlett yells at Gunnar that “singin’ that song makes me wanna slap the living hell out of you!”

* Avery cradles (now-a-toddler!) Cadence to him while looking worried.

* Daphne rocks out.

* Rayna cries in bed, alone.

* Juliette grasps the arms of her seat as her private jet begins to go down.

Per the official release, “The season begins with Rayna and Deacon facing a new normal with Maddie now back home and Highway 65 struggling financially. The shocking news about Juliette creates a wave of emotions throughout Nashville and sets Rayna off on a journey of discovery.”  As previously reported, Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz (thirtysomething) will take over as showrunners; star Connie Britton will leave the series after she appears in 10 of the upcoming 22 episodes.

  1. Jason says:

You’re stating the Connie Britton departure as fact when it’s only been a rumor up to this point. Has there been new information on that front? Is it possible they’re just spreading out her episodes across the season?

  2. MMD says:

I watched the first season and I really like the Zwick/Herskovitz combo and style of storytelling but if Connie Britton (Rayna Jaymes) is leaving the show I don’t think I will bother to watch the last few seasons.

  3. Laura Gallo says:

Yes I will be watching!!! Been waiting for this since May.

  4. Just My Thoughts says:

Any suggestions on how to watch this great show if you don’t get CMT or Hulu?

  5. Jess H says:

So thrilled this show is back!!! Hoping Connie’s 10 episodes are spread throughout the season, because I can’t imagine how they would write her off and make it believable.

  6. Kate says:

Canadian fans: The W Network will be showing it on Thursday nights at 9:00 according to their website. The two hour season premiere will be Thursday Jan 5th, same as in the States.

  7. Mike says:

I’m so excited based on the previews and everything I’ve read so far. But I can’t imagine this show without Connie Britton. I hope that the rumor of her exit is false. If she’s only doing 10 episodes, I hope they spread them out and she can keep a reduced commitment in future years. I can’t imagine how they would write her out without it being something catastrophic.

  8. Boiler says:

I know they are bringing in new folks but one person that should be back instead of someone new is Chaley Rose. She is probably a better singer than most all the rest.

  9. Carol Rushing says:

Don’t know what I’m going to do because our cable company does not offer CMT. Will there be any other way I will be able to see it. I’m pretty upset

  10. tjchurch2001 says:

I don’t know why it ends with Juliette’s plane or includes the clips about the distress call, as it was announced Hayden is back for the full season.

Also, I would be excited about JD-J if he didn’t appear to be filling the same role Mykelti did previously on the same show. (So much for all that online discussion of diversity on the show.)

Lastly, I have never been a “shipper”, but anyone who is a fan of real country music knows bad relationships make for better songwriting! (Ask Blake Shelton or Kenny Chesney!… Not to mention it’d be better if Juliette lived, only to have old friends & family ignore/reject her!)
