Ratings: Supergirl Soars to CW Highs

Supergirl on Monday night (technically!) kicked off the #DCWeek “Heroes v Aliens” crossover event with 3.53 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating (per finals), rising 33 and 20 percent week-to-week to hit and match its best numbers on The CW to date.

Jane the Virgin in turn ties season highs, with 1.15 mil and a 0.4. All told, The CW enjoyed its most-watched Monday night since Jan. 18, 2010 (when One Tree Hill/Life Unexpected averaged 2.5 mil), and its highest-rated one in five years.

Elsewhere on the night….

FOX | Gotham (3.4 mil/1.0) dipped a tenth. while Lucifer (4.1 mil/1.1) hit and tied best-since-premiere numbers.

CBS | Adrift amid a sea of repeats, a fresh Odd Couple (4.6 mil/0.9) dipped just a tenth. The Big Bang rerun (8.5 mil/1.5) drew Monday’s best numbers for a scripted show.

ABC | With NFL preemption (in Philadelphia and Milwaukee) factored out, the CMA Christmas special did 6.9 mil/1.0, while Conviction (3.4 mil/0.6) dipped a tenth.

NBC | The Voice (9.7 mil/2.1) was steady, Timeless (4.9 mil/1.1) dipped a tenth week-to-week.

  1. D says:

yeah thank to the con job that the crossover was starting in it instead we got what 1 min of crossover

    • Darren says:

good lord they said everywhere you read that it started at the end of Supergirl. Is it really worth complaining about?

      • Pedro says:

No, they didn’t. And they heavily promoted as a 4 part crossover.

        • DavidJ says:

True, but it was a network TV promo. When have they ever been very reliable? The producers themselves made it as clear as they could that the main crossover started with Flash, but it was obvious the network was going to promote it as a big 4 night event anyway. Because that’s the kind of thing networks do.

        • Phun says:

It was advertised as a 4 NIGHT crossover event which starts with SUPERGIRL and last night it did start with SUPERGIRL.

        • herman1959 says:

I recall that it was stated on this site that Barry would show up on Supergirl near the end of the episode. I’m glad Supergirl’s storyline wasn’t sacrificed for the crossover. That was done so many times to The Flash to set up Legends, and The Flash is just getting back to where it had been. I’m looking forward to Part 2.

      • jj says:

        agreed! people are so whiny.

    • Superfan says:

I watch SG anyway so it didn’t bother me but Barry appearing in the last 10 seconds of the epi was highly misleading. The crossover was promoted as a 4 part event but Barry’s appearance in SG hardly qualifies as a crossover. People have a right to be annoyed. Because I know I’m going to be seriously p***d off if I sit through Arrow and I get nothing resembling a decent crossover.

    • Rex the Wonder Dog says:

Made you look though. Which is what the CW wanted.

  2. Max says:

Unsurprising considering they’ve promoted it as a crossover episode when it was the furthest thing from a crossover. What a low PR move… Supergirl doesn’t get to have its midseason finale taken over by crossover characters but Arrow gets alien battles on its 100th episode.

    • jj says:

you might be annoyed, but “furthest thing from a crossover” um no. two characters from another show showed up albeit not for long, the actions of those characters affected the development of the episode throughout. the furthest thing from a crossover is every other episode that has no cross over elements at all. maybe dial back on the exaggerations

    • Felicia says:

Considering the abysmal ratings of arrow, seems like the wednesday show needs this crossover to happen more than the rest of the dctv lineup.

    • Dee says:

It is already said that the dominators will make a comeback on Supergirl. It’s all related.

  3. Kevin says:

Timeless is a must-see on Monday nights and each episode just keeps getting better and better. Too early to tell if the series gets renewed for a second season but what are the chances.

  4. tstephen51 says:

I’m curious as to how many people get the CW channel vs CBS and Fox. It would help put these CW ratings in perspective

  5. mike says:

to be fair they did say that the crossover would begin at the end of the Episode

  6. Katie1227 says:

Everyone who read anything about the episode instead of just the promo knew it was just going to be at the very end. Everything pointed in that direction (the synopsis, the title not being Invasion! like the 3 others eps, the pics, the spoilers….etc.)

    • Phun says:

You said the key word “read”. Nobody reads these days. Even the promos start with the flash finding aliens on his Earth. That would have been the biggest giveaway…

      • Katie1227 says:

Not saying people do, just saying that they shouldn’t complain that they’ve been cheated (like I saw a lot on tweeter and my friend from another country who had live feed saw in the comments) if they don’t bother to search for a little info.

        • Pedro says:

So, if a see a TV promo, I should research if it’s true?

          • You come to TVline enough to comment but you ignore the information they provided you.

          • Phun says:

Look at the promo again! It seems that you failed to read what was said on it. It stated it was 4 NIGHT CROSSOVER EVENT. Last night was the first night. Tonight is the second night, Wednesday is the third night and Thursday is the fourth night. I would attach a pic but I can’t here.

          • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

LET US ALL MOVE ON. #StupidDebate How ’bout those Odd Couple ratings!

  7. Kalvin says:

    I <3 Supergirl.

    That is all.

  8. Ninamags says:

Regardless of when the crossover part actually began, the episode was fantastic!!!!

Is there a Luthor that a Kryptonian doesn’t have incredibly chemistry with?

Lucifer was great as well. I wonder what Chloe’s ultimate purpose will be in regard to Lucifer. Maybe she can redeem him so he can get back to heaven.

Timeless was incredible. We got more information on Garcia Flynn and we get to see that there were women behind the NASA success stories.

A great, exciting tv evening all around.

  9. dancmh says:

Cross over episode or not, 3 or 4 minutes of Cisco being Cisco at the DEO could have saved a lot of viewer good will.

  10. kmw says:

Good for the CW shows. Supergirl is doing what the network wanted it to do. Even better for Lucifer. That show should be a easy renewal for FOX.

  11. Luli says:

YES for Supergirl!! And people need to give it a rest with the crossover thing not taking over the whole episode.

  12. Penny says:

Conviction still rising in viewers after its been more or less canceled. Anyway it might actually get a second season if the ratings continue?

  13. Jared says:

I’m really loving this season of Jane the Virgin. This 2 month hiatus is gonna be rough!

  14. Michael Summerset says:

It’s obvious the boost was from DC fans who don’t normally watch the show looking for the crossover content. But it was really more a cameo than a crossover, and they repeated the scene in The Flash so there was little need of it.
