Parker Posey Lost in Space Netflix

TVLine Items: Parker Posey Gets Lost in Space, Empire Adds Nia Long and More

Lost in Space has found a new cast member in Parker Posey.

The actress has joined the cast of Netflix’s reboot of the classic 1960s sci-fi series, our sister site Deadline reports. Posey will play Dr. Smith, the bumbling scientist played by Jonathan Harris in the original series.

Toby Stephens (Black Sails) and Molly Parker (House of Cards) have already been cast in the lead roles of John and Maureen Robinson in the Netflix remake, which is currently scheduled for a 2018 debut.

Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

* Empire has added Nia Long as a recurring guest star on the current third season, per Deadline. Long, who just starred in ABC’s short-lived Uncle Buck remake, will play Vegas club owner Giuliana, who butts heads with Cookie as she tries to secure a deal with Empire.

* The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will executive-produce a royalty-themed comedy for Freeform, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The single-camera project centers on the fictional country of Andova, where the king’s just-discovered illegitimate son snatches the keys to the kingdom away from the king’s daughter.

* Cartoon Network’s hit franchise The Powerpuff Girls is headed to Hulu, the streaming service announced Tuesday. Episodes from both the original 1998 series and the current reboot will stream exclusively on Hulu, starting in 2017; a selection of classic Powerpuff Girls episodes are available to stream now.

Oh, PLEASE!!! Every film that Parker Posey has been in has been portraying a ridiculous character. Does anyone even take her seriously anymore?

  2. LK says:

    Parker Posey??? Ugh… no…

    • keniri says:

My thoughts exactly. She’s like a caricature, every time I see her in a movie. Like a puppet being manipulated by a puppet master.

Wow, was not expecting that, but it does sound interesting. And I can easily see her fulfilling the same kind of role as the greedy and egotistical villain who’s only out for themselves and constantly causing trouble for the rest of the crew. Although hopefully they’ll give her a lot more dimension than Dr. Smith’s of the past have had.

Hmm, interesting. With these three in the cast, I’ll definitely give it a try.

I was super excited about the casting for Lost in Space until today….I’m totally ok with DR. Smith being a woman, but Parker Posey???? She’s one of the worst actresses out there. Horrible casting!

It was inevitable that Nia Long would eventually find her way to Empire.

  7. The Saticons says:

Well, I’d. HOPED for a great new Lost in Space. I have NO confidence in it now. Very sad.

  8. maggie says:

I will watch Lost In Space if Toby Stephen’s real-life mom, Maggie Smith, appears every episode to make fun of everything that happens.

  9. mike says:

Lost in Space is based on the relationship between Dr Smith, Will Robinson, and the Robot. They just flushed this version down the crapper.

  10. George says:

Even as a kid it amazed me that Dr. Smith never had some kind of airlock accident, as much trouble as he caused. When he wasn’t shirking his duties, he was throwing others under the bus or irritating dangerous aliens. It kind of surprises me that they’d recast that role to a woman – it seems like *exactly* the kind of role Hollywood likes for white men! :)

Netflix is making dr smith a woman Crush Kill and Destroy the whole series .
