Morena Baccarin NBC Legal Pilot

Morena Baccarin Joins NBC Legal Pilot — What Does This Mean For Gotham?

Morena Baccarin has found a part that’s even more complicated than being Jim Gordon’s ex.

The Gotham star has signed on to star in and executive-produce a legal pilot for NBC, our sister site Deadline reports. In the project, she’ll play a former cop who’s now a powerful attorney who defends — wait for it — New York City police officers. (Think The Good Wife meets The Wire.)

The potential series is produced by Tony Krantz (Felicity), Ken Sanzel (Numb3rs) and ITV Studios America. Sanzel will write the pilot.

But what about Baccarin’s current series-regular gig, as Gotham‘s Dr. Leslie “Lee” Thompkins? Per Deadline, the actress has no plans to leave the Fox series; if the legal pilot gets picked up, she’ll continue on Gotham in a recurring capacity.

In October, the actress landed a guest-starring role in Showtime’s comedic anthology pilot Mating, from executive producer Jason Katims (Parenthood).

Great, I love Lee, but she’s not a necessary focus. :)

  2. Roger Buchana says:

Good either way, they set up how James Gordon Jr gets his psychotic tendencies, so time for James to make his way back to Barbara.

  3. dw says:

means she looking for a new man

  4. keniri says:

Baccarin needs to dump Gotham. For a long time now, she’s been pushed into the background of the series and has never been part of Gotham’s ensemble, mostly due to the moron directors, producers and writers for not developing her character on the series. I’ve always felt that her talent was never respected for Gotham as an actress and that she should have chosen some other project that wouldn’t waste her talents. It’s nice to see she’ll be headlining a new TV series. Been waiting for this ever since Firefly was canceled.

  5. mike says:

Lee has always been a background character as far as Canon goes. She’s there to assist Bruce after he becomes the Bat. so she doesn’t need to be in every episode. Besides, they touted the change to Ivy so much they pretty much HAVE to move on to her now

  6. Abel Garcia says:

I like everything this actress does.

  7. Laura says:

Honestly, I don’t think she needs to stick around at all. Her character, outside of being a source of Jim Gordon’s manpain, is essentially undeveloped and somewhat pointless. I like her as an actress, but she’s wasted on Gotham.

  8. McSatan says:

Hope she continues on Gotham, and is a part of TWO hit shows!

  9. She leaves the show. Leslie and Gordon are not an item in Bruce’s adult years. She shouldn’t return until Bruce makes his first outing as Batman. However, since Lt. Sarah Essen was killed on the show and Gordon eventually marries her after his first marriage dissolves…who knows? I have no idea why he would name his daughter after a lunatic ex-fiancee, though.

  10. HAP says:

I have loved everything Morena has done, dating back to Firefly. Have to admit, I have never watched Gotham.

  11. lilkunta says:

wow im happy she is working but HOW?
Her ex husb is in Cali and she has to fly their son Julius there for visitation.
She JUST had a baby girl Frances –on 2 march 2016–with her current man and co star on Gotham Ben McKenzie(he plays commissioner james gordon). Gotham films in NY. Is this new show filming in NY? Since she is EP is she making sure they film in NY ?

    good luck morena.
    next time use a condom.
    use a condom ben!

  12. Luis Roman says:

Presuming they plan to stick with any kind of canon before “Gotham” winds up, Jim will find his way back to Barbara, which would downgrade Lee’s role in any event. Anything that gets more Morena Baccarin on my TV screen is fine by me.

  13. Paul Yont says:

I am happy for Morena, but I don’t want her to leave Gotham. It’s obvious that Jim Gordon still loves Lee Thompkins, and Lee Thompkins is not a waste of space on that show, her fiancé is though. What’s killing me is that Mario Calvi (AKA Mario Falcone) supposedly has a dark side, but it’s taking forever to bring it out and Jim Gordon has to do whatever it takes to save her. I think Jim Gordon and Lee Thompkins should act as surrogate parents to Bruce Wayne, but as a couple, not as singles. There’s no way in heck that Gordon will ever go back to Crazy Barbara Kean, especially after everything she’s done. Crazy Kean has not shown of redemption or rehabilitation, she is no longer good enough for Gordon and Gordon is way too good for her. Lee is way too good for Gordon, but she is just right for him, and somehow, they will reconcile, and they will reconcile before the season three mid season break.
