Empire Ratings Lows

Ratings: Empire Returns From Month Break to Series Lows, Still Tops Night

Fox’s Empire returned from its month-long break to 8.1 million total viewers and a 2.9 rating, down 13 and 17 percent from its last fresh episode to mark series lows, though it still dominated the night in the demo.

Opening Fox’s line-up, Lethal Weapon (7 mil/1.8) was up 6 percent and a tenth.

Elsewhere on the night….

THE CW | Arrow (1.96 mil/0.7) rose 25 and 16 percent from its previous outing (opposite the World Series), drawing its largest audience of the season. Frequency (1.1 mil/0.3) was steady.

CBS | Survivor (8.8 mil/1.9) and Code Black (6 mil/0.9) rose three and two tenths, respectively, while Criminal Minds (7.2 mil/1.3) slipped 6 and 19 percent to series lows.

NBC | Blindspot (4.9 mil/1.0) and SVU (5.5 mil/1.3) ticked down, while Chicago PD (5.7 mil/1.3) was steady.

ABC | The Goldbergs (6.4 mil/2.0) hit best-since-premiere numbers, while Speechless (5.6 mil/1.7) and Modern Family (7.2 mil/2.3) ticked up. Both black-ish (5.3 mil/1.6) and Designated Survivor (5.6 mil/1.2) dipped a tenth, with the latter now at half of its premiere numbers.

What are the chances Lethal Weapon gets renewed for a second season? Hope it doesn’t involved a “toilet bomb” like it did in the LW2.

In this site’s review of Designated Survivor, the review questioned the longevity of the premise, as well as being negative about the clunky bombing mystery and the annoying kids. Spot on. The premise is wearing thin, the whodunit aspect is not being handled well, and the family stuff (outside the wife, who is great) is a non-starter. This show should have had a clear cut bad guy that was ID’d in episode 1, and taken out in ep 2. Watching the DS build a gov would have been an everyman version of the West Wing. His staffers and their relationships are great. It will probably be fractional in the ratings by January, and canceled by May.

At first thought they had a replacement for Nashville for this time slot. Nashville should have gone to a different day and looks like DS slowly sinking to Nashville levels. Look forward to beginning of January when Nashville back on CMT

I drop this after the third episode. I thought season two was bad and was willing to see what was going to happen this season. I found myself recording it but not watching it. So season pass got canceled. Maybe one day I will binge watch it on Netflix or something.

Nice night for The Goldbergs Turns out it was good for ABC to move it. DS slipping fast but still ok. Poor Blindspot. As for Empire, I knew it would probably hit below a 3.0 this season but not this soon. FOX ‘s scheduling plus the election and The World Series keeping it off the air hurt it and just think whats to come with another long layoff coming. FOX should have kept them at less episodes and run them straight thru. Yes Empire won the night but its companion Lethal Weapon( great night for them as well) has almost as many HH viewers and even though HH numbers aren’t important anymore it still stuns me that LW is even near in HH numbers. I know that FOX couldn’t help these fall events but they need to get Empire back sooner so it doesn’t drop worse in the spring

    I watched RECTIFY

Ugh, Empire is such trash now. It was once a gem. They fight, they make up, they fight, they make up…snore. How anyone can allow themselves to be manipulated by Lucious by the motion that he is on their team or that there is any decency whatsoever in him is ludicrous.
