Ratings: This Is Us Strong vs. World Series, NCIS Rerun Has No. 2 Audience

Leading out of a Voice clip show and opposite Game 6 of the well-watched World Series, NBC’s This Is Us held strong this Tuesday, drawing 8.4 million total viewers and a 2.3 demo rating — down just 3 percent and one tenth week-to-week.

The aforementioned Voice recap did 6.8 mil and a 1.4, while Chicago Fire at 10 pm (6.6 mil/1.4) slipped two tenths.

Fox’s broadcast of what would be the penultimate Cubs/Indians post-season match-up did 21.8 mil and a 6.2, down a bit from Game 5’s fast nationals but up 66 percent in metered market ratings from the previous Game 6 (Giants/Royals, 2014).

Elsewhere on the night…

CBS | An NCIS rerun (Hey, Tony!) delivered Tuesday’s largest non-sports audience, with 10.2 million viewers.

ABC | The Middle (5.4 mil/1.4), American Housewife (5.1 mil/1.5), Fresh Off the Boat (3.5 mil/1.0) and Real O’Neals (2.8 mil/0.8) all ticked down., while the last Agents of SHIELD until Nov. 29 held steady with 2.5 mil/0.8.

THE CW | The Flash (2.7 mil/0.9) ticked down, while No Tomorrow (850K/0.3) was steady.

Cubs survive again. I feel so emotional right now.

  2. cosmoman11 says:

Why the last minute reruns on CBS? Were they afraid to go up against the World Series?

    • Patrick says:

Yes. They scheduled new eps thinking/hoping the Series would be over. They had no intention of going against an elimination game in the W-S(as are all WS games starting with game 6), no matter the identity of the teams involved. CBS’s Tuesday dramas share tremendous overlap with sports, so CBS won’t go against them. They just hoped it would be over. Once they knew game 6 was on tap, they bailed.

  3. Rachel says:

Matt, do you know why SHIELD is taking a break until Nov. 29th? I understand not being on next week because of the election, but after that I don’t get it.

    • Lucy says:

I’m also curious why SHIELD is basically being pulled from the fall Sweeps period (airing only once during entire Sweeps month). It seems like a very bad sign, but maybe there’s something I don’t know.

I really wish they’d move AOS to a different time. This show is amazing, but is slowly being killed by the deathslot. Loved seeing the origin of Ghostrider, so cool.

Awesome ratings for This Is Us against what could have been an elimination game for the World Series. Keep on doing what you’re doing.

  6. kmw says:

Very impressed with This is Us, holding the way it has. Actually most drops weren’t as awful as I thought they would be
