Fox’s Star will be born early — and Cookie Lyon & Co. will be assisting with the delivery.
Fox on Wednesday announced that Empire creator Lee Daniels’ newest musical drama Star will get an early premiere on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 9/8c, following the fall finale of Empire (which will shift to 8/7c for the first time ever). Star will then resume its rookie season on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 9/8c. Empire, meanwhile, will return in the spring to close out its third season.
The Atlanta-set Star follows three young women (Ryan Destiny, Jude Demorest and Brittany O’Grady) who form a musical group and experience the music business’ highs and lows on their road to fame. The cast also includes Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt and Nicholas Gonzalez.
In September, Chuck Pratt Jr., who most recently served as headwriter on CBS’ The Young and the Restless, stepped in as showrunner and executive producer, filling the void left by departing producer-writer Charles Murray.
